Jones in Balt. to take his physical

According to Hickey at the PI...didn't see this anywhere else.

Shhh don't tell Peter Angelos.

He also maintains that it is 5 players for Bedard...in which case I'm reeeeeally not happy about this trade.

Maybe not literally, no.
Fucking 5 for 1 deal. Fuck. Fucking-five for-fucking-one fucking-deal, man. Man, fuck.

I meant literally.
This trade is a bit like that, except that you get a  consolation prize for being "a good sport."

At least it's not our first time.
Atlanta really helped us learn that the first time is always the worst.

Maybe it goes smoother after the first time.

For reals?
Adam Jones has certainly submitted to a lot of physicals lately.
Hardball Review Because we need another blog about the Mariners.

Maybe 5-1 means
lesser prospects
and we hold on to Clement, Morrow, Tillman, Triunfel and Wlad.
But somehow I doubt it.

by johnbai on Feb 3, 2008 10:49 PM PST reply actions

Maybe it means
Morrow + Tui + Fear + Rob Johnson + Tuglett

I somehow doubt it.

Haven't confirmed if George is on his way...
...but I will admit that this trade would be a lot easier for me to stomach if he's not part of the package.  But if it means Clement or Triunfel are, then that feeling gets even worse...

at least he's in line for a substantial raise
if he has a successful go at being the closer.

Yeah...
That's the only way I'm OK with him being sent in this trade -- he clearly wants to stay in Seattle, but he'd also welcome the opportunity to take a closer's job, obviously. Baltimore seems to have one, although I'm not convinced he'll be the first in line.  I'd hope so, sure, but you never know...

Why Did the Grizz Do that Trade?
I haven't been able to follow B-Ball at all this year. On paper, it looks like a disaster.

Well, obviously,
it was so they could flip Javaris Crittenton to the Braves for Brent Lillibridge.

Gasol isn't that good
Or at least he's not a max player, and he has a max contract for the next four years (I believe). They're not really going to contend in the next few years, so this is basically a salary dump in which they get back a talented young player (Crittenton) and two draft picks and they hope they can bring in another big in free agency or with their lottery pick this season.

Realistically this is just selling your best player for what he's worth because he's not helping your team as is.

by seattlebruin on Feb 4, 2008 8:38 AM PST up reply actions

*for less than what he's worth
And there's probably a second move here involving Brent Lillibridge anyway.

by seattlebruin on Feb 4, 2008 8:38 AM PST up reply actions

Also...
At this point, I want pictures.  I want pictures of the players heading into wherever they do the physicals.  I want evidence.  I'm tired of all this reporting that a player's taking a physical.

And screw wiretapping laws.  We're tapping all their cell phones, too!!!  I mean, with baseball being the national pastime and such, it's important to national security that we find out what the hell is going on!

Actually,
you don't have to tap cell phones.  Radio waves are completely legal for anyone and everyone to listen to.  Always have been.

by coolguyrob on Feb 4, 2008 1:24 AM PST up reply actions

Can it be done?
I'd like simple instructions, sir.

by spittle8 on Feb 4, 2008 8:43 AM PST up reply actions

I had a friend
who had an eavesdropping kit and would walk around campus at Evergreen trying to listen in on cell phone calls.  This is when very few people had cellphones yet, so there were only a few calls out there to spy on.  My friend wasn't a very good person.

by johnbai on Feb 4, 2008 11:50 AM PST up reply actions

Holy fucking shit!
Your friend sounds awesome.
Willie is ours, and you can't have him

by spittle8 on Feb 4, 2008 8:00 PM PST up reply actions

Yes it can be done,
but it's not as simple as it used to be.  When cell phones first came out, it was very easy to listen in on them, as johnbai pointed out.  Now, however, they're a bit fancier and harder to intercept.  First of all they're digital now and most of you basic radio rreceivers are analog.  You simply can't pick up the traffic from a digital transmitter on an analog receiver.  You can receive the signal itself, but not the traffic.  Additionally most cell phones these days come with basic encryption.  While it is perfectly legal to turn on your receiver and listen to whatever you can find it is not exactly legal to use a decryption device, because now you're showing intent.

Jones on shitter
Baltimore Sun reports that Adam Jones is expected to a take shit today between 10AM and 2PM, a source placed closely to Jones' shitter said. O's president of operations MacPhail has hinted that Jones might be going to the bathroom, but would not specify whether it was number one or number two. "He might be going number three, for all we know," said MacPhail. Owner Peter Angelos, who had not been notified of the potential bowel movement, could not be reached for comment because he was busy watching Matlock. Mariners GM Bill Bavasi, reached by telephone, said that Adam Jones had achieved all the goals set for him by the team by game four of the VWL playoffs and was sent to Baltimore due to hygiene concerns. "Venezuela, as you know, is not known for sanitation, and we didn't want Adam catching AIDS from some dirty can in Caracas."

Update
Reports indicate that the deal is being held up due to Jones having severe diarrhea.

Bedard Physical
From our perspective, we should be a lot more interested on Bedard doing a physical-- Since I've more or less given up that this trade is happening, I hope his physical is very fit.
