Trading LL Heroes
At least since I started reading LL/USSM, it seems like every player that we start championing gets traded. Doyle first, and now Jones/Sherrill/Mickolio. It's a bit depressing to see every player whom the blogs are rooting for to be traded. Just a weird observation. Maybe we should root to free Richie Sexson or something.

And then watch them get injured/traded/abducted by aliens.
Nah
Tell me if I'm wring but ... I doubt it will be Morrow. For whatever reason I don't detect much 'love' for the guy from M's fans online.

his line away from HD
Not great, but pretty solid. He hit more than twice as many homers on the road than he did at home.
Sure, 'the road' includes places like Lancaster, but his season was clearly not just a creation of High Desert.
:Daps:
You ARE on the "Free Adam Moore" campaign, too, then, right???
I mean, we've got to have other candidates to dedicate Morsels to...

Also, this diary title confused me.

What do you think he was talking about?
It stands for people who want everyone to know
If you want to save the environment ride a bus. Ride a bike.
For once we agree

My thing is-
It has the added advantage of making it LOOK like you are saving the environment, but people who actually, truly care about the environment are riding bikes and buses around everywhere. Pri-i are simply fashion statements.
Once a viable, useful plug-in hybrid (or other alternative) becomes available then I'll consider all this as legitimate. The Prius is a step in the right direction, but no more or less then any other hybrid or fuel efficient diesel on the market. It merely has the added advantage of proclaiming to everyone that it IS a hybrid. Toyota realized that when they designed it and that's why it sells so well. It's not an act of goodwill to buy a Prius; it's just a great way to boost an ego.
As far as putting the "Go Green" sticker on the back of an Escape Hybrid (which does achieve the best fuel economy of any SUV on the market), that's also just somebody who wanted to inflate their ego.
And the thing is,
What I also don't like about the Prius are the hard, skinny tires. I'd rather sacrifice a few MPG to have a wide, soft, grippy tire for the safety and maneuverability.
Also, even when they do mass produce a plug-in car, it won't be green for most people. The power produced usually comes from coal or nuclear generators. Now if you have a lot of solar panels and get a majority of your energy from windmills, then you can call it green. But if those cars become "fashion statements" as well, the same smug drivers are walking hypocrites. You wanna be green? Buy a diesel and make your own biofuel. Buy a high fuel economy car you can fill up with E-85 Enthenol. Buy a car with a fuel cell engine that are now available in the US. But if you're driving a hybrid -- especially an SUV or sports car -- you're not saving the environment, and you can wipe that smug, shit-eating grin off your face.
few quick points
Another quick note, E-85 isn't that green because the savings when it is made from corn is pretty minimal. Maybe in the next 10 yrs when its made from cellulose (grass) it'll be better for the enviroment/wallet. The best thing you can do is to drive less and consume less. One of the easiest things that makes a huge impact is carpooling or taking pub transit. Who are we kidding though, I doubt we do much until non-renewable energy gets rare (and hence more expensive).
by Edgar for Pres on Feb 3, 2008 10:54 PM PST up reply actions
FIGHT ON BROTHER!
The corn thing is bunk, however. It costs a surprising amount of gasoline to work all the processes that are required to cultivate, collect and disperse the corn shit anyways. It also means excess corn goes into our gas tanks instead of into the stomach of starving people. Even I have to feel some disgust at that thought.
Climate change is undoubtedly real -- the climate is always changing and always has been. Global warming as it is called is a bit shaky, but we are surely having an impact on the environment that will make our quality of life worse. We're killing the ocean, for one, and we're also heating it up and increasing the salt levels, which kills off reefs.
However, it is debatable what impact we specifically are having on climate change, and what effect we can muster realistically. Personally, I like the idea of simply blasting the sky with volcanic material or some proper substitute. We could have a major impact on global temperatures this way. That should be studied for its viability.

I'd prefer we use children.
the only problem with nuke
Energy in WA/OR is not the problem it's our cars. We really just need better public trans.
Since Graham's already addressed this concern...
Solve those two problems, and, hey, let's run the world via nukes!

Also, I don't endorse shooting waste into the sun
Our ability to throw stuff into space without it blowing up is still kinda suspect.

Security and Waste
As for waste, the entirety of an average nuke plants' waste over 30 years can fit into an area thats about 15x15x5 ft. Furthermore, a reprocessing plant can recycle the spend rods indefinitely.

The tea lady
They used to sell Whittard's earl grey, which was rad, but they don't anymore. Then they stopped carrying the Ahmad earl grey, though they still have the other Ahmad teas.
Oh, and PG tips over Tetley's all the way.
Yeah! Tea subthread on LL! Woooo!
Hmmm.
I'm sure there are much better Earls than Tetley's, but I do like Tetley's a lot.
But, then, what do I know. I'm certainly not a tea snob...
