Good News
Erik Bedard has been cleared to pitch!
I know lots of people think he was a whiney slacker, but we're stuck with him and he did, after all, have a cyst in his pitching shoulder! It's not like he didn't have good reason for his low Innings-Pitched last season.
M's can hope to get a half-season out of the guy and maybe flip him for some prospects at the deadline.

Don't worry, I don't think this is a place
that perceives Bedard as a “whiny slacker.”
That is encouraging news, though, as I remember some saying soon after his injury that Bedard may not pitch until well into 2009.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's no Bedard hatred here
and I’m hoping for more than a half season. Probably won’t get it, but still – a healthy Bedard is a good thing to have.

The opposite of it, actually.
The authors defended him quite a bit from accusations that he was being a baby, and from people making character judgments on a guy based on his willingness to do something stupid like pitch hurt.
I think we’re thought of as anti-Bedard because we were anti-Bedard Trade. A lot of people have problems separating the two.
Who's hit a triple off him? They could probally give us a definitive answer.

I would have taken him out at the knees just to make a point.

Exactly
I love Bedard, but it’s like getting a nice new car for your birthday, then finding out that your parents used most of your college savings for it. Sure, it’s a great car, but when it breaks down within the first few months, and you think that you could have had your college savings this whole time…you tend to get a little annoyed.

Then you'd have diabetes and cysts.

It would be nice if he was actually ready to go on opening day.
Nicer still if he pitched well enough to net us some value at the trade deadline.
Buzzy’s son boneheadedly traded the farm for him.
He doesn’t suck up to reporters asking him stupid questions.
He had a cyst on his pitching shoulder.
Most reasonable people don’t hold these things against him.

There's no way the Mariners would have Bedard start on Opening Day

I was unclear there
I meant ready as in healthy at the start of the year.
Obviously Felix gets the ball opening day.

Jim Street up to his usual terrible commentary..
Mentioning how Bedard coming back opens up the door to trade Washburn for offensive help.. Does he really think Washburn is bringing back offensive punch?
At least he's acknowledging that trading Washburn is a good idea

Well, maybe the Cardinals will take Washburn and give up the newly acquired Khalil Greene
… Given Greene’s anger issues, he could qualify as Offensive Punch right?
Can't wait for Ruskell to knock this one out of the park.
