The Cubs need more secondbasemen
...because clearly they don't have enough:
The Chicago Sun Times reports that the Cubs have agreed to terms with Aaron Miles on a two-year, $4.9 million contract.
St. Louis cut Miles loose because they didn't want to pay him around $2.5 million via arbitration, so it's a surprise that he's able to get a two-year deal. Chicago already had infield depth with Ronny Cedeno on the bench, so signing Miles seemingly could lead to the Cubs shopping Mark DeRosa.
The first person to suggest trading Washburn for DeRosa is banned.

I still don't get why the Cubs have a fire lit under their asses to trade DeRosa.
Especially if they are trying to replace his at bats with Aaron Miles.

Maybe we should trade Washburn for DeRosa

Interesting trade
Maybe they’ll put him in the outfield?

My guess:
Valbuena——> minors
DeRosa is really really good, and I imagine he plays second and Peralta plays third

Considering how many years AsCab and DeRosa have left on their contracts
I’m surprised Cleveland sought Valbuena.

No, but you think they would have still preferred to get talent

Whatever you give for Peavy will be too much
I imagine the package would include at least four of the following names – Vitters, Pie, Marshall, Cedano, Hill. That isn’t worth it.

The Cubs are going to win that division if they don't suffer any catastrophic injuries.
The West is going to blow, and the WC will be between two of PHI/NYM/ATL and STL

Catastrophic injuries
The Cubs employee Soriano, Bradley, and Harden.

I'm assuming Bradley starts 110 games, and Soriano starts 120
by JI on Dec 31, 2008 11:29 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
In the outfield, Bradley starts 80 tops.

you're overestimating our guys
Pie cant hit major league pitching, cedano isnt very good, and rich hill lost his mind and cant pitch at all anymore, i dont think marshall would go anywhere.

Then why would the Padres want them?
Or, who would the Padres want instead?
by katal on Dec 31, 2008 11:31 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
they are decent at best
Hill has completely fallen off, pie is a fine defensive replacement, cedeno has shown some flashes of being good, they are all replaceable if you ask me. The Pads are trying to shave some money and deal peavy, and he only wants to go to the cubs couple that with these new pitchers from the DeRo deal and I think it works.

the Padres probably want two grade A prospects for Peavy
they’re not gonna give him up for the return Seattle got for Putz

The fact that they were asking for Yunel Escobar indicates that they're not going to be lowballed
