Milton Bradley --> Cubs - Deal done but not yet official
According to ESPN Radio. I haven't heard any word on the number of years or the amount of money involved, but I'll update this FanPost once I have that information.
Assuming this detail is something like 3/$36M, I say the Cubs got a steal. Bradley was clearly one of the most underrated free agents this winter.
It will be interesting to see how this affects the market for Dunn and Ramirez.
The Cubs certainly acted fast. Everyone knew they wanted to move Jason Marquis so they could free up salary to make this move. I just didn't expect the two events to happen within literally minutes of one another.
UPDATE: According to the Chicago Comcast branch, the deal is done but not yet official.

Well there goes my best idea for making this team better

The best part is that since there isn't a chance in hell of him playing more than 120 games
he’s not even worth 3 wins

And that was *my* idea
I’m really not sure how this helps the Cubs, there’s barely any gain once you figure in the net loss in playing time and defense.
But, damn, 3/36 would have been a perfect deal for us.

The only problem
…is that he’s got to play the OF. I think he would have really benefited from an AL team where he could split time between the OF and DH, hopefully to minimize injury and games lost thereto.

Totally agree
He was adamant about wanting to consistently play in the OF, though.

I hope he enjoys his time on the bench
I hear the bench and clubhouse in Wrigley aren’t too comfortable.

Never underestimate Sweet Lou's desire for a bat.
If you can hit he’ll find a spot in the lineup.

Well, he's got a good bat to work with
The problem is his body just breaks down frequently. Lou’s going to have to find him a spot on the bench fairly frequently.

Let Lou challenge his manhood, he'll be playing through pain in no time.
Just kidding around, I miss Lou and love to crack on him. He’s awesome, like his value system is a holdover from the 1950’s or something. One of my earliest memories of ESPN is Lou choking Rob Dibble. Then he came out to the M’s, brilliant!

I hope he enjoys his time on the DL.
I have a hard time paying 3/36 for someone who is 50/50 odds to play 300 games over those three years.

So I still haven't seen this confirmed anywhere

It's all over Chicago radio stations
take it for what you will. =/
I don’t want to be wrong about this.

Boy, the sports radio in Chicago is all speculation and misinformation.
If I have to stomach another dose of Mac, Jurko and Harry, my ears will fall off.

It appears that both the Rox trade and the Bradley signing are close but not official
10:00pm: Dave Kaplan of Comcast Sportsnet Chicago says the Cubs are close to a multiyear deal with Bradley that would be announced next week.
7:28pm: Ken Rosenthal confirms what most people are saying—that this deal is close, but not yet official.
7:11pm: Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald calls the deal “possible, but not done yet.” Additionally, says Miles, the deal is apparently “more in the Rockies’ hands than the Cubs’ right now.”

Well, I was pretty sure he wasn't going to sign in Seattle
losing team, no time in the field, heavy travel schedule… he was never coming here. I’m just glad he’s not in our division any more.

I don't really agree with this
Seattle is a good destination for free agents, and long as the M’s are willing to pay I see no reason why they can’t sign any free agent.

Or....
re-building, possibly up and coming team with his addition, full time DH with maybe a seldom appearance in the outfield, beautiful stadium and city, awesome fans, well for the most part, and plenty of financial resources.
I don’t understand why the Mariners couldn’t contend. I think we’re done with the pessimism deal now.

Still has to get past the powers that be in MLB.
Didn’t Bad Vlad Guerrero sign with the Dodgers, and MLB tore up the contract? Or is my memory faulty on that one?

Do we know if Z at least kicked the tires?
by Robert on Dec 31, 2008 3:14 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
He kicked the tires and Bradley freaked out and blew an acl.
I fucking hate you Mariners

Not so fast...
Apparently, the Nationals are sniffing around the Bradley bush.
Clearly Jim Bowden is polishing his chops as a comedian.
