Rosenthal Rumors (non-Tex edition)
One slugger to watch: Pat Burrell. The Rays could sign either Burrell or Jason Giambi if Bradley lands with the Cubs. The Mariners also like Burrell, and the Rangers could view him as an option if they do not trade for the Tigers' Gary Sheffield....
Hairston, a free agent, is considering an offer from the Reds, his previous team, and also drawing interest from the Mariners. The Royals like Hairston, but lack the payroll flexibility to sign him. ...
Pat Burrell? Barf. He's not even a full win better than Endy Chavez, and he's nothing special as a DH. I'm giving Zoidberg the benfeit of the doubt and assume this rumor is false.

Z deserves trust for now.
He seems to get defense, and he gets Safeco’s park factors.

And Hairston is a decent enough placeholder if they get something interesting for Lopez
even then, there’s much to like there as a UT player

Is Hairston any better than WFB?
If he is then I’m not really seeing it.

It seems
Hairston’s about 1 WAR versus WFB’s 0.7 WAR. But when you factor in leagues and parks, then yeah, they’re pretty equal. And I don’t want Willie’s clone playing second base for an entire season.

He has more power
Obviously it’s about the years and money, and who he’s blocking. I don’t have a problem with a 1yr deal.

WFB is a good pinch hitter
And has played more IF recently though. Looks pretty even to me.
Anybody know what kind of deal Willie wants? Don’t think the team should sign him but I’m just curious.

The idea of there being good or bad pinch hitters isn't really true.
Bloomquist is a poor PH, but that’s because he’s a poor hitter.

That's what I meant.
Good hitters make good pinch hitters, bad hitters make bad pinch hitters

Yuk
where are all the Washburn trade rumors? There’s got to be some quasi-contender that needs 4/5 help, no? Look, he’s left handed! and if you hold a mirror to his face it fogs up! He can help, and we want nothing back, really.

Why the hell am I laughing so hard right now?!?
Make it stop! My face hurts when it smiles!
You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen.

We could have had Boof Bonser for him.

Sure we LIKE Burrell.
But what has he ever done to make us feel otherwise.
I think he had to add a couple teams to his ‘Ad-Lib’ trade rumor article so he flipped over to AL West and picked two teams at random. Maybe he meant the Angels.

More athletic outfielders!

Someone needs to tell Jim Bowden that trying to acquire every outfielder in the game isn't a good strategy.

You wouldn't be saying that if the list went
Sizemore
Rasmus
Markakis
…
…
by JI on Dec 23, 2008 1:58 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
this is a strange strategy given that Dukes and Milledge are both young and talented, Harris plays a nice outfield
and you have plenty of “veteran” guys already.
Patterson is a scrub anyway

I can't wait to buy low on him in 2-3 years.

He was a minor league free agent this off-season, but re-signed with them.
I thought Boston might add him as their fourth outfielder.

I think calling Pena athletic is stretching the definition.
He is technically an athlete I suppose.
