Hi!
I’d go with American Analog Set’s “Weather Report” personally, but that’s just me. A nice list.
I’d love to go up to the big city and hang out at the Deluxe, but I cannot make it. Some other time, John – I’ll bring you a De Konink, as I promised many long months ago.
Kings of Convenience were pretty damned good, but with Erlend Oye doing other things, I guess they’re done.
Ooooh, the Beta Band. That’s damned good shit. Have you heard the Aliens, which is Gordon Anderson’s new(er) band? And he and his brother Kenny (aka King Creosote) put out tons of songs on the Fence Collective label. King Creosote is pretty good, albeit more folky than the Beta Band.
Wow... thanks for the excellent suggestions!
Also add to the playlist:
Beirut ~ Scenic World
Band of Horses ~ St. Augustine
Looking forward to the beer!
And lastly
Jim James cover of Going to Acapulco from the soundtrack of the Bob Dylan biopic: I’m Not There
You know I'll be there.
Good list. I’ll add:
Association – Never My Love
Tom Tom Club – Genius of Love
Jesus and Mary Chain – You Trip Me up
Colin Blunstone – Caroline Goodbye
John Lennon – Jealous Guy
Camera Obscura – Eighties Fan
Frank + Nancy Sinatra – Something Stupid
Eighties fan is great
though I might go with ‘Happy New Year’ given the date.
‘Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi’ is such a good album.
So just get on one and come down here.

There was about 6 inches of snow out there from earlier in the week
When the wind gusted it was blowing snow out of the trees, so I was being shoved all over by wind while stuck in a vicious wall of white. Terrifying, but incredibly exciting. This wind will be some shit though, since my dad’s house is surrounded by trees, which are frozen and covered in 6 inches of snow on all the branches

That earn $5k a month ad on the sidebar is pretty sweet
With just 1 application I was able to get a check for $12,000 which I will never have to pay back. It helped me:
* Pay off my credit card debt
* Pay for some new tattoos
* Buy a new car with some ‘shoes’ (i posted a pic of it below)
* Buy my girl a tiffany watch
* Buy myself a $15,000 jacob timepiece
So apparently $12,000 is enough to buy a ~$25,000 car and a $15,000 watch. The math hurts me. It physically hurts me.
Down payment on the car and lay-a-way on the watch.

Woo, more snow!
Fantastic. If the meteorologists are right about 3-6 more inches, it’s going to be impossible to get to the Seahawks game tomorrow.
I'd wager you won't make it
it’s supposed to get really nasty in OR/WA tomorrow, you may want to make alternate plans or delay by a day or two. Portland’s got 3 in of snow right now, there’s more falling, and it’s supposed to ice over later and do the same thing all day tomorrow.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Holy Smokes!
I have friends and family throughout OR. Worst case we’ll stop in somewhere for a night. Supposedly my brother bought chains already but I’m gonna check that.

Brian Eno-Needles In the Camel’s Eye
Dead Moon-Black September
Superchunk-Hyper Enough

They’re the ones responsible for teaching young reporters/editors to remove the word “that” whenever they see it.
That's pretty wild. Skating on Greenlake sounds fun! However, this man is crazy
for shoveling his walk at midnight in the middle of a blizzard.
I was shoveling it, he was entertaining me with stories
Started with my driveway when I got home, he heard the ruckus and grabbed me up. At least he had some good stories, other than that old people got no reason to live. Other than driving to the store in a Volvo station wagon with bald tires while wearing bedroom slippers and no coat expecting the whole goddamned world to come to a screaching halt to fix their shit. A friend of mine and his girlfriend were driving from Tacoma to San Fran and got stranded in Portland- his van is parked on the side of I-5 and they got plane tickets to San Fran from PDX. Their flight connects in Seattle, so near as I know (like 2 AM this morning) they’re still stranded in Portland

That's nuts
See my comment below. My dad finally dug his place out with his John Deere, but then got some freezing rain and it fucked everything up

84 between Troutdale and Hood River's closed today
because on top of the 6 in of snow there’s now about an inch of ice. Good timing getting out when you did.

Holy shit! From komotv.com
Blizzard conditions were reported overnight in Enumclaw, where wind gusts as high as 70 mph are combining with snow to make for near whiteout conditions and heavy snow drifts. Over in the tiny foothill town of Cumberland, an unofficial gust of 100 mph was recorded, knocking a large tree over onto a main road that just missed the town’s fire station.
My dad lives 3 houses over from this fire station. He said he’s got snow drifts of more than a foot at his back doorstep. He can’t even leave his driveway because the snow drift has nearly made the 3 foot uphill at the end of his driveway level with everything else. He drives a huge lifted truck and still can’t leave. Awesome

Crazy!
I live in North Central Washington (small town of Tonasket) and it’s felt like what I imagine Siberia would feel like. Harsh winds, zero degree temps, and ice all over the place. Really kinda sucks, because I love sledding and such with my kids.
We were finally able to go out today since the winds died down. It’s still crazy cold, though.
You're trying to kidnap what I've rightfully stolen.

Here's a game for you:
It’s called Medic. You get a bunch of sleds and a bunch of friends and climb a big hill. Once up there, have everyone but two people sled down in a race. when the stop they yell MEDIC and it’s up to the two remaining people to sled down as fast as they can and ram into the fallen. Rinse and repeat. It’s a great way to injure yourself and others

At least I can make out that there are indeed roads out there today.
I can’t see pavement, but I can tell there is supposed to be a road there.
According to the last forecast I saw
it sounds like it’s not going to warm up enough today for the snow to turn into rain.
Yep same here. We were supposed to get mid to high 30's with rain today.
Well it’s 31 and snowing. Argh.
I'm officially sick of this snow.
I haven’t been able to leave my fortress of solitude since Wednesday.
I think I'm gonna attempt to make it to work today.
Friend of mine tried to leave his place this morning, got his car stuck in his apartments parking lot. Had to shovel a path out so he could leave.
It’s ridiculous.
Snowing all morning here at my place
Woke up to it at 9:45 and it hasn’t stopped yet

I didn’t want to get up that early, but I think I went to bed early enough that it had to happen. After going back and reading through this thread though I’m surprised that I made it to my bed with how I was

Watching the Seahawks play Favre? In the snow?
This game is bringing back terrible memories.
So where the hell was Coach's OT?
Bitches about it for 2 days, and then welches?
Not that there’s anyone else here, but still.

Happy Winter Solstice!
Solstice is:
-the shortest day of the year.
-the first day of winter.
The days will start to get longer after today. As harsh as winter is, Solstice (and the winter holiday) reminds us that Spring will return.
We're getting more snow on top of our ice now which is on top of the snow
it’s an apocalyptic sandwich of DOOM

I actually think it's fairly cool that we're having this weather
It’s a change from the usual October-March weather. Maybe now I’ll actually buckle down and work on some college applications.
I remember when gas was that low.

by Kirsten Schlewitz on Dec 21, 2008 9:05 PM PST up reply actions
The metal ones don't break
but they do get mighty cold and bending is a definite possibility. Plastic cafeteria trays also work if anybody has access to a cafeteria/McDonalds (don’t steal just say no stay in school).

So driving home was one of the funniest times I've had in quite a while.
I drove a coworker home, since we both live in Aberdeen and he didn’t want to drive in his car. The roads were completely empty(obviously with it being 3 am). and full of snow and ice. So we’re driving down the middle of the road, blasting music and sliding the whole damn way. Weeeeeeeeeeeee what a blast!
