Lillibridge flipped for left handed reliever (and some guy named Javy Vazquez too)
(probably)
Rosenthal:
The Braves, moving to address their starting pitching needs, have reached an agreement with the White Sox on a trade for right-hander Javier Vazquez, according to major-league sources. The White Sox will receive as many three players in return and also could part with left-handed reliever Boone Logan. Infielder Brent Lillibridge is expected to be in the deal along with a young starting pitcher and possibly Class A catcher Tyler Flowers. Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes was among the pitchers under discussion, but is not in the trade, sources said.
I'm no expert but Flowers looks like he kicks all kinds of ass, seeing as catchers don't usually develop as hitters that quickly.
So much for buying low on Vazquez.

Damn
I wanted Lillibridge to return to Seattle. Washburn to the braves or something.
Can't wait for Ruskell to knock this one out of the park.
So I take it no Peavy for Atlanta
A shame for the Padres, because I think Escobar was probably the best player they ever had a chance of landing.
Yes, but the Peavy contract is so affordable
that you might as well have him play out the string and see if the Padres get better in 2010, or that someone gets desperate in July.

This is something a lot of people haven't talked about.
Peavy is very affordable in 2009. The big salary doesn’t kick in till 2010.
(Then again, that means his trade value is higher right now than it will be in a year.)
Absolutely.
Escobar and a bag of cookies was about as good as Towers could expect, considering Peavy had only approved a handful of teams. If they had an offer of Escober and something else exciting, and they passed on it . . . I . . . I’m trying really hard to give Towers the benefit of the doubt. But the Peavy market has vanished and Padres fans are turning against the team because of the whole Hoffman thing.
Letting Hoffman go is probably wise, as is trading Peavy, but man, it seems like they are really fucking up both transactions.
Absolutely.
But the Padres could do themselves a huge favor by getting a good shortstop to build around.
I still think Peavy is affordable and good enough to build around, but the Padres seem dead-set on reducing payroll.
(I work for the paper here, so I read about this shit all day long. Peavy is a god here, and I’m still not sure I agree that trading him is the best idea. But, as Jeff said, Escobar is the best name I’ve heard through this whole mess.)
Flowers...
is a really poor defensive catcher. He’s probably a 1B long-term. His bat might play there, but that makes him way less valuable.
Or Jeff Clement?
I fucking hate you Mariners
I'm still shocked that Daric Barton isn't an all-star yet.
Yes, he’s allergic to leather, but it’s basically impossible to have the kind of year he had in the MWL and then just not be any good. I don’t get it.
Oh yeah, I'm not closing the book on the guy
I’m just surprised he isn’t an all-star by now, that’s all.
The injuries have really hurt him; he looked lost for a while there at AAA. I guess I’d still be surprised if he didn’t make at least one AS team.
This is obvious and doesn't explain anything.
