OTFP: The Rime of the Current Mariners
Ok, so i'm studying up for exams next week and one of the topics is the "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and well, being as how the stories can be somewhat looked at and tied together, I just wanted to know who or what, in your opinion, is your version of the Seattle Mariners' albatross? (good luck charm that got taken away from you)
For those that don't know the story, an albatross follows a ship though fog and ice and is thought to be a good luck charm. The mariner kills it and everybody dies. That should save you about 20 minutes of reading and understanding it.

"Alexander The Great" and "Paschendale" IMO are better historical Maiden songs, but ROTAM is an epic for sure.
I don't often get a great response online when I trumpet the newer material.
Paschendale is a brilliant song, though.
Musically, I don’t think Alexander the Great is at the same level as the other two.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
Yeah, there are ALOT of people who are stuck in the Powerslave.Piece of Mind, and Fear of the Dark era.
Those people are stupid. The recent trinity(Brave New World,Dance of Death, A Matter of Life or Death) were great albums.
So Moskau is the official title?
Foreign language I guess. I just assumed it was wrong, kind of skeptical when it comes to illegally downloaded music.
Sorry, but Maiden is sooo silly to listen to. I can never take them seriously.
At least Maiden tried to raise the bar. Maybe some people went to the library and read something.
This comment makes me sad.
Screw you, Mariners. I'm back in football's loving arms. *edit: well, shit. This isn't going well.
wHY DO THEY ALWAYS GET BETTER WHEN THEY LEAVE?

Nope.
Perceived years. Derived straight out of my ass from a very reliable source.

The answer is pretty clearly Cameron, though the darkhorse candidate is Matt White.
White broke into the big leagues with the M’s in June of 2003. The M’s acquired White from Boston on 6/6/03 – the M’s record that day was 40-19. He was returned to Cleveland (he’d been a Rule 5 guy) on 6/30, and the M’s stood at 53-28.
From 7/1 through the end of the season, this juggernaut of a team that had a .654 winning percentage went into a long slump and actually played 1 game BELOW .500. From 7/1/03 – 12/2/08, the M’s record is approximately eleventy billion games under .500.
White bounced around the minors before getting into one more game in his MLB career, with the ’05 nats.
Meanwhile, the property that he bought from his ailing aunt was revealed to be worth $2 billion.
Clearly, Matt White stumbled upon the M’s cache of luck and took the whole damn thing. Didn’t help his career, but not even Barry Bonds can make $2bn playing baseball. Well played, Mr. White… well played.
OK, technically White played three games for Boston before coming here.
Perhaps his LEAVING Boston and coming TO Seattle also transferred some luck the opposite way? I don’t know how this all works.
Clearly didn’t help Boston in 2003 (Aaron Boone), but starting in 2004….

I am no longer in Spokane, but I think I'll keep the name anyway.
Seriously, 20 minutes of reading and understanding it?
I can’t get past the first prose without my head spinning.
I’m going to go with Mike Cameron as that seems to be the consensus. Although, Lou Pinella could fit the bill as well.
Yeah, I feel like an idiot any time I'm in my literature class
However, you give me something about wars or history, I’m right on it
It's funny
that the meaning we associate with ‘albatross’ today is far, far different than its context in Rime of the Ancient Mariner. An albatross now in sports is considered a crappy player with a giant contract.
Now, just hear me out on this one, but what if...
Arthur Rhodes being traded to the Marlins came out to be the only piece they need in the bullpen to create a World Series team. Just a hypothetical situation, but I’m sure that if this does happen, 1) Robert’s head would literally explode and 2) my life would be in serious danger for suggesting something like this and having it actually happen
