Burke Non-tendered
The catching depth on our 40-man makes this not so surprising, and I think Zduriencik has enough sense to go with Clement. Johnson is also a possibility, but I can't see them carrying three catchers, unless Clement is the DH and they're giving up on him behind the plate. Now, about that Adam Moore kid...
Goodbye Burke. We applaud you for being better than Rene Rivera and also pitching in that one game. Unforunately, you're on the wrong end of thirty by several years.

So long, Jamie.
I’ll always remember you as the backup catcher that didn’t suck.
(Also that was one fucking awesome bunt you laid down)

Remember the All-Star game
where Peavy threw a 98 mph fastball to Vlad way off the plate away, and above Vlad’s shoulders, and Vlad hit it out for an opposite field homerun?
Burke’s bunt was more impressive than that.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

Ya that was insane...
But Burke put his life on the line with the bunt

more vlad
I remember an Expos/Diamondbacks game where Randy Johnson threw a ball at eye-level to Vlad, and he very much cleared the yellow line in centerfield. Oddly, though, Richie Sexson’s Jumbotron smash may be the most impressive homer hit in that park.
But this is about Jamie Burke, whose one bunt makes all of Betancourt’s bunting adventures seem all the more infuriating.

Unless he's done that more than once, it was Brad Penny who threw that pitch.

I was sitting right behind home plate the game he pitched
Fun times.
Incidentally, I was sitting to a Mets scout who had some good things to say about Sean Green…

Pitching depth, sorry.
We should bring him back as a reliever.

It was impossible to not root for you, Jamie. Godspeed.
And you were probably a better pitcher than Batista in 2008. You’ll always have that.

Fun fact:
Jamie Burke had a lower tRA than Washburn, Silva, Dickey, RRS and Lowe.
Thanks for the memories, Jamie.

Dang, bad luck getting your break with a team that isn't in the process of rebuilding.
Just about any other team, bad luck right there.

There were a lot of guys on this team who became easy to hate when times were bad.
No one ever rooted against Jamie.

How can you not?
The time he spent in the minors displays his love for the game. And when he got an MLB job, he seemed truly thankful and blown away. He never demanded more playing time, yet he made the most of his plate appearances.

I now want a Jamie Burke Teddy Roxpin bear for Christmas.
Unless someone could find a Jamie Burke Pet Monster. They were badass.

Inevitable, but still sad
Wish the guy luck wherever he ends up.
What’s the deal with non-tendered players – they’re effectively free to be NRIs anywhere next season (or probable candidates to fall off the face of the planet)?

I get it, but I'll really miss the guy.
He made me feel okay about backup catchers after the rotating horror show of 2005. I’ll never forget Felix giggling at him the day he pitched. I will remain a fan of Jamie Burke.

Burke has a better Marcel projection than Varitek
Maybe Boston could use a catcher.
Hopefully he can find another position somewhere. There are very few players well liked by all fans than Burke.

Good luck to yeah Jamie.
I’m glad you hit your first major league homer with us.(which produced one of my favorite Jeff articles ever).

I knew we have mountains of catching depth and young at that...but boohooo
Jamie, you’ll be missed.
You created a lot of great little moments that turned into memories for us. Good luck, whomever picks you up will be lucky.
(I must say I was surprised how many people at this blog genuinely liked him…but I guess he is one of those players that can’t be disliked even if he isn’t a regular like an Ichiro, or a power-hitter like an A-Rod.) He seems like an all-around good guy to have on your team…maybe even a team leader type, who knows.

"Funny, how just when you think life can't possibly get any worse it suddenly does."

He’s always reminded me of Marvin. He was in a very depressing position with the Mariners. To have such a thankless job, utility catcher on a club with more catchers than you can shake a stick at, and still go out there and give it his all whenever they needed him.
With his head though, he’ll probably end up being a coach or a manager some day. It seems to be the consolation prize you get for struggling through an unsuccessful catching career.

Hmmm...
So sweeten the pot on the Hermidia trade, making sure Rob Johnson is part of it, and then re-sign Burke!
