Raul Offered Arby, Two Coaches Named
The Mariners Insider blog of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Mariners have offered Raul Ibanez arbitration and will be hiring Ty Van Burkleo as bench coach and Lee Tinsley as first base coach. The pitching related coaches, which we've already known about, should be announced tomorrow. Hickey confirms it at the P-I, but Baker's a little slow on the Raul part.
Good for the M's. They now should have four picks in the first two rounds of next year's draft, possibly five depending on whether or not Fields ever comes down to slot.

Oh, and there's a press conference at 1 pm PST.
I think.

That is definitely exciting that they will get four draft picks in two rounds.
Considering our new GM is a scouting wiz.

5 draft picks.
1 from not signing Josh Fields, our 2 compensation picks, and our normal 1st and 2nd round picks.

Kind of a big assumption that Fields wont be signed.

JH suggested it's a matter of slot.
I’d agree with that notion. IF he wants to come down to slot, then we sign him. If he doesn’t, no one’s going to fault us for trying, particularly when the M’s are noted for being rather accommodating when it comes to the wishes of the commissioner’s office.
It’s a devil we do know vs devil we don’t thing as far as the pick goes. I don’t know how deep the ‘08 draft is relative to the ’07 one, but I still don’t think that a reliever really suits our needs in the short term. I hope that not signing Fields doesn’t prevent us from trading Putz if the right deal comes up.

Oh I agree on the "should" part
I’m just not sure the “could” (or in this case "wont") is to be assumed. Until we actually have an extra pick to compensate us for not signing Fields, we probably shouldn’t think that way.

Carlos Silva read this and got EXCITED.
He thinks he’ll be getting some Big Montana’s and Roast Beef and Cheddars + curly fries soon, as long as the M’s are doling out the Arbys.
Can't wait for Ruskell to knock this one out of the park.

MS paint, wooooo!
I thought of doing the press conference photo, but every one of them seemed to have Bavasi in it and I think most would prefer to forget that era.

Tremendous work. Thank you for creating what was I was seeing in my head.
Now if only you could work in some Arby’s sauce on his jersey like the Mariners ad with wings instead of seeds.

Speaking of that Mariners ad with wings...
I have Rene Lachemann’s hat from that commercial. Definitely one of my favorite “game-used” merchandise items…

We'd prefer to forget Carlos Silva too but we're stuck with him
Nicely done.
