Looks a lot like Citi Bank
I am no longer in Spokane, but I think I'll keep the name anyway.
Wakamatsu is going to wear #16, WFB's number. I would guess (hope) that Jack is not too interested in retaining WFB.

Yeah GMZ is going to be getting an angry call from Boras now

My Thoughts Exactly...
It looks as though WFB is only a 29 team player.
Alvin Davis, your legacy is no longer tarnished.
He's obviously glad that in baseball the managers have to wear the same head gear as the players.

Bullshit, rocking the ring is where it's at.

It'd look acceptable if he didn't spike the front of it.

I think he just took off his hat.

I like that he talked to Billy Beane about Wakamatsu.
Yeah, it doesn’t really mean anything, but it’s nice to know we’re actually willing to talk to the A’s as an organization.

You notice since Zduriencik has took over they've been saying the goal is to win the World Series?
Under Bavasi it was always “we think we can/want to compete”….it’s a welcome change.

the same person who asked about being Asian-American
pointed out that 16 was Nomo’s number when he debuted as a pitcher.
Heh....probably from...
…the NW Asian Weekly….
This manager sounds smart

FWIW
Wakamatsu was relatively anonymous in his stint as bench coach in Texas. But I think he was way more important than generally observed. To some extent, Wak kept the players from rebelling against some of Showalter’s rigidity. Whether good or bad, it’s clear to me that he gets player confidence. That kind of thing is a two way street – perform, behave, and I got your back.
He also got substantial schooling on park effects within the division, to add onto his A’s experience. I think you’ll like his approach, and hope he gets good players in his tenure so he can succeed. Well, against the A’s and Angels, particularly.

I suppose it is too much to hope he says
I want pitching coach Rick Peterson and I to look at a problem ….
OK this is a kick-ass answer
He’s open to sabermetrics, and took the job in Oakland to learn about such things

I don't care for Baker either, but there's no reason to think that..

I think he was going for the more general "Baker hates everything we like, and visa versa" angle...
While not true, it seems that way at times.
Riggles seemed like a smart guy
but he was just too fan rooted in tradition

well easier than saying Zduriencik but harder than saying Don.

I think I might give up trying to be funny.

Do you really need to ask that question?

I was in the car listening to that.
I am officially pumped.
This whole Hope emotion is warm and tingly.
Shouting out his wife before saying anything else was a nice touch.
I can’t imagine trying to have a family at all, let alone while hopping from town to town as a minor-league baseball player or a coach. Classy move.
I thought that was a very classy move as well.
Mentioned his daughter also.
Man do I love midgets.
Oh and
what on earth is a “national cross checker”?
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
I found this
as the answer to a BA question
Teams use several area scouts (usually 12-18 per staff) to file initial reports on players all over the country. The most promising players are then evaluated by crosscheckers, who essentially are more experienced and proven scouts. There are regional crosscheckers (usually 2-3 per club), who split up the top prospects into East, Central and West groups, and national crosscheckers (usually 1-2 per team), who will see all of the best players. Some clubs use both regional and national crosscheckers, while others employ one or the other.
The crosscheckers’ recommendations determine which prospects the scouting director will bear down on. Ultimately, it’s the scouting director’s final call as to whom he’ll draft, but he’ll try to build a consensus among his area scouts and crosscheckers.
I'm thinking it's a good move.
He was with the Marlins the past six years as their east coast crosschecker and I’ve noticed that they tend to have more top ten prospects form that region. Of course, that might also be a reflection of their draft strategy in general, so either he’s good at what he does or he’s had a lot of experience doing it, hopefully both.

love it.
irate middle-aged caller who is insulted, insulted I tell you that some guy who has never managed at the major league level before has the nerve to say that the Mariners aren’t rebuilding.
I can't find it...
but there was a gem I found in one of the comments sections following an article announcing Wakamatsu’s hiring that said, paraphrasing, “I have been a Mariners fan since the day I was born and I have never been satisfied with any of their managerial hires and continue to be disappointed”.
Really? Every last one of them?

I'm amazed how msb can still listen to KJR regularly and keep his sanity intact.
Every day I hear about Seattle sports' failures. Every night I fall asleep to the sound of my own tears.
msb is a she?

Giddy.
I have this warm feeling, like we’re going to be a richer version of Oakland. Perhaps like the Red Sox.
But soon Oakland is gonna be the richer version of Oakland.
So that sucks.

They're still not going to have nearly the same kinds of financial resources the Mariners do.
I envision a near-ish future in which the Mariners and A’s battle for supremacy year after year, with whatever team survives the AL East juggernaut to wind up in second place factoring into the wild card race.
Yeah, I know we’re a ways off, but dammit it’s exciting.
by Aaron Campeau on Nov 20, 2008 4:05 AM PST up reply actions
I should add that the A's being the team the Mariners are doing battle with is what makes this future so exciting.
I’m tired of hating the Angels because they’re lucky and rich. I want someone else to hate for better reasons.
