Cubs looking at Teahen?
According to MLBtraderumors.com, the Cubbies are interested in Mark Teahen. Ignoring for the time being whether or not this is true, two things jump out at me:
1.) Mark Teahen is available? He's still relatively young, hits lefty, walks, and can play first. And he hit an inside-the-parker last year, so he must be one of the 3 fastest players in baseball. He and Prince Fielder.
2.) The Royals want middle infield help. Yuni for Teahen. Ship it.

Ehh
I don’t think Teahen would be a bad stopgap 3B, but I think he’s best cast as a good fielding John Mabry

other than that
if you believe Billy Beane, Mabry will, (and I will now quote from memory from Moneyball) “swing from the heels” at anything juicy.
Teahen is apparently much more selective.
I will accept any draft combination of Crabtree, Andre Smith, Stafford, and Mays. Hear that Ruskell? Time to start spreading vicious rumors about all 4 so they fall.

More officially...
It’s now up on the Kansas City Star Website… The story says the Cubs would be offering Felix Pie and/or an infielder such as Ronny Cedeno or Mike Fontenot… The Mariners can’t match that, certainly not with Yuniesky Betancourt.
I’d be fine with the Cubs giving up either Cedeno or Pie. Cedeno has a lot of potential, but it won’t be with the Cubs. Fontenot is great off the bench and has a good left-handed bat, but i wouldn’t trust his glove over a full season. Pie still doesn’t have much of a place on the team with Kosuke Fukudome moving over to center to make room for an acquiring a left-handed hitting outfielder, such as Teahen or Raul Ibanez. As much as Fukudome slumped last year, he’s still probably better at this point than Felix Pie, owed a tidy sum of money and has no value around the league. I think the Cubs could get more for Pie, but Teahen would be a great addition to the team, and save them from having to give a multi-year contract to Ibanez… shudder.
I would much rather the Cubs pick up David DeJesus, even if it means giving up BOTH Cedeno and Pie… but I’d be satisfied with Teahen.

he'd platoon
The Cubs also have Reed Johnson to play right field and proved last year they were going to use him… I’d much rather have Mark Teahen then put Ibanez out in right field. I’m horrified they’re even considering it at the price level Ibanez will command. He’ll suck… bad. Think of an outfield with Alfonso Soriano and Raul Ibanez in the corners… paying them that much, to be that bad defensively. The Cubs have a lot of strikeout and groundball pitchers, so maybe they could get away with it, but i don’t want them to try it. I’d rather have the Mets or the Phillies go that route.
I do think keeping Pie and putting him out there against rhps would be better, and cheaper obviously… but that’s not going to happen on this team. You all remember what it was like having Lou Piniella manage. He’s not going to trust Felix Pie. So, maybe he’ll trust Mark Teahen, and then the Cubs can sign Rafael Furcal to play ss instead of giving all of the money to Ibanez. That’s how I justify this trade from the Cubs perspective.

You'd trade Felix Pie for half of a platoon?

Would "I" do it?
No… I’d start Pie in CF right now and would have last year. Reed Johnson himself proved that you can find guys out there who can platoon for nothing… but I’m not trading Felix Pie… at least not the Felix Pie you’re thinking about. I’m trading the Felix Pie that has absolutely no value to this team… that will be lost for nothing if they don’t trade him since he’s out of options and Lou Piniella will not use him.
However, I would rather trade for half of a platoon than pay Raul Ibanez $10+ million dollars over 3+ years to be half a platoon that will kill the Cubs defensively and cost them draft picks.
If the options are Teahen + Furcal vs Ibanez… i’m not really seeing what the debate is.
The Cubs are seriously thinking of paying Raul Ibanez to play in the outfield… I wake up screaming every night and will until i hear that it won’t be so.

I thought I had throw in there a...
for whatever it is worth (which I realize with MLBtraderumors.com is basically worth Yuni’s glove)…
I understand that it’s conjecture at best, but it was an interesting concept, especially after the (insane) rumors of Butler for Yuni.

My beef is with your terminology.
You’re attributing the entire rumor to MLBtraderumors.com, a website whose sole purpose is to scour every piece of media known to man, put links to it on their blogsite, and make money off it.. The original content is laughable. What you’re left with is basically people making money off other people’s work but in a way that makes it seem less scumbagish.
If those cats ever actually got enough insider info to post a real, honest to God MLBtraderumors.com rumor, then you can say “According to MLBtraderumors.com”. Until that decade, I shall continue to have a cow.
