Affeldt --->Giants
Via Fox Sports:
Reliever Jeremy Affeldt became the first of 171 free agents to agree to a contract, striking an $8 million, two-year deal Monday with the San Francisco GiantsTerms of the deal were first reported by FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
" Though just 29, Jeremy brings a solid veteran presence to our bullpen," Sabean said in a statement. "There is no doubt he has been able to shoulder a heavy workload. He has been to the postseason and will help bridge the gap between our young and talented starting staff and our closer, Brian Wilson, who is one of the best in the game. We are excited to have Jeremy as a Giant."
I find it strange that he signed so soon... and with the Giants. You think there would have been better teams interested.

I'm curious as to why Dave is so high on him
Affeldt’s decent and all, but nothing really stands out.
Oh no!!!! Dave is being corrupted by following this team so long...
He was thinking: He’s from WA. = He’s awesome.
Damn this organization!!!! Ha ha.
Some places list him as from Phoenix and others from Medical Lake
Doesn’t seem too tough of a distinction to make.

Just turned 29?
Underrated?
Strikeout rate went though the roof?

His walk rate was flukey and he doesn't have a very good Marcel
I know he’s useful, but “the most underrated relief pitcher in the game”?

I'd save that title for Joe Nathan or Joey Devine or somebody along those lines.

I don't think of one year of indifference counts as him being underrated
considering every other year of his career he’s been given his due amount of praise.

Even then he didn't really get enough praise

He was pretty much lauded as the greatest reliever ever
and accolades were given that he’d be the first pure reliever in the HOF, and that he was unbeatable etc. etc.
I don’t know how much more you could ask for.

Can the consensus "best reliever ever" be underrated?

I still have a hard time wrapping my mind over the fact that he does what he does, with basically one pitch.
The batter knows what is coming every single time, and still he dominates. Insane.
I've wondered this, too.
The K/BB numbers from 2008 scream outlier. (Not to imply that Dave is judging Affeldt by his 2008 numbers.) His BB% dropped from 13% to 7.5%, which is awesome but looks flukey.
But he’s a lefty, he doesn’t have to be pulled when a righty comes up, and his GB% is around 50% most years.
Good left handed ones, maybe
But smart teams are gonna pay guys by what they’re worth; they’re not going to let one bad contract drive the market into a frenzy.

Do do can win
I predict a finish similar to this.

The sad thing is I have adopted the Giants as my NL team
since I’ve moved down here.
I am no longer in Spokane, but I think I'll keep the name anyway.
Seriously, I think he went off the deep end right before Pet Sounds.
That was a remarkably good album, but I’m not sure anything he’s made afterwards could be classified as “good”

Hmmm...
I thought the modern album he released was sorta “meh.” Now the original version might’ve been very promising. But the fact that he composed a lot of the songs for that album (some of which were released on subsequent albums) in his indoor sandbox and the fact that that album was never formally released counts against him, IMHO…
