Big Giant Major Trade In The NLE

Capital City gets:

Josh Willingham
Scott Olsen

Marlins get:

Emilio Bonifacio
Jake Smolinski
PJ Dean

The names going to Washington make it seem like a bigger deal than it is, because Olsen sucks, and Willingham can't play defense. There's also the matter of Olsen having lost 3mph off his fastball this season. The fact that Willingham can at least hit a little bit makes Washington the winner of this deal, I think, but while it's not a bad idea to take a flyer on guys with a little promise, neither of those players excites me very much. On a different but related note, I can't wait to see how Olsen's infamous attitude meshes with his new teammates. It's like one of those weekend camps where a parent sends an insubordinate child to prison to get yelled at by murderers.

A couple of observations:

1) He really wasn’t that bad this year
2) The Pads are going to suck, so why not just keep him?
3) I can’t believe how much success lefties have had against him considering his out pitch is his change
4) I know who the Cardinals closer is going to be!

It's about the money, JI.

San Diego’s budget is rapidly falling through the floor due to owner John Moores’ messy divorce. That’s the real reason they’re shopping out Peavy too. Moores plans to sell the team soon (the right thing to do, given that he can’t pay to put the sort of winner on the field that he promised the city of SD in return for Petco), but for the time being he’s desperate to cut salary.

It’s a shame, really.

At some point

they will just put barbed wire around the Nat’s ballpark and post guards in the pressbox

I will accept any draft combination of Crabtree, Andre Smith, Stafford, and Mays. Hear that Ruskell? Time to start spreading vicious rumors about all 4 so they fall.

I'm envisioning Uggla at 1st for the M's.

How could this ever work? Sigh….
