LL Bowling night?
So apparently I've been tasked with attempting to arrange a bowling night for all of us. The previous shot at this never came to fruition, but maybe this time will be different. What can't us, right?
So, this would be a good time for everybody to try and focus on scheduling and location, because we are a group that has most of Western Washington covered. There are a ton of Bowling Alleys in the area, so feel free to drop a suggestion if you have a preference. I figure doing it on a Friday night or Saturday night would work best for most here, but the consensus will determine that. Many houses also do a Rock'n Bowl with flashing lights and loud (generally shitty) music, but these are commonly crowded with middle-shoolers, which is annoying. Others offer Colorpin bowling, which awards money for throwing strikes when different-colored pins are in your rack (but you have to be 18 years old). These could be sound options as well. Who knows? Who cares? That's what this thread is for.
Have at it, and let's get something figured out soon because I would like to finally meet everybody here.

So maybe round two?

Or maybe round one
The last time we attempted this we were all talking about it for a week and then just completely dropped it. But hopefully this time it can be for round 2

I am actually gonna be in town from Thanksgiving day through that Monday
So this could be good.

I believe we are having football that weekend.

Now I love soccer, but it’s Thanksgiving! I think it might be a federal requirement that we throw the pigskin around.*
*This is of course assuming I can finally get over this damn injury early enough to get back into shape, so I can chase Matthew around with at least a chance of maintaining my dignity.
My explanation worked just as well.

Anyone up for a game of football before Thanksgiving
should create a fanpost about it. Maybe depending on weather. We missed out on some beautiful crisp clear autumn days… but there may be more on the horizon.
I am biased, but Hillcrest bowl would be a decent meetup spot
Just off of exit 5 on 405, so easily accessible by most people. Or, we can move more north and do somewhere on the Eastside. Again, suggestions anybody?

If we do this I am going to drink, a lot.
And as far as I know I am the only one who lives in my area. Therefore cab.
You're in Burien? I don't live there but I discovered Burien cuz there's an Aussie Pie place I like...a lot
That Aussie pie place is good.
I am also a big fan of McKelly’s just a couple doors down from there.
There is an Aussie Pie place in Burien?
I might drive there from Everett just for that.
Man do I love midgets.
Or I see I can buy them at a store in Seattle as well.
Man do I love midgets.
I'm sure fresh would be better though.
A chicken Aussie Pie (or three) sounds great right now.

Closer at least.
Not too far from work in Shoreline.

This is late cuz I haven't been on
I like getting the giant family size Aussie Pies :-) You just take it home and throw it in the oven for 40 minutes. Three normal (small) size ones isnt bad either.
And yes, they have them at Kangaroo and Kiwi in Greenlake from the Aussie Pie Company in Burien
There ya go
Or rent a bus. And Ghost Ride it

nope as I see below
But don’t worry, I’ll bus if it comes down to it
I’m not driving from Tacoma to Renton drunk

Cool. I'm down with transportation in either direction.
From my wild and woolly days I remember getting home late by bus, drunk, sucked balls. But then I was terrible with getting the schedules right and wound up hiking until sober quite a bit.
We'll see
but I don’t really want to make anybody come all the way down to Tacoma to pick my ass up

I'm an awful bowler
but if this is a weekend, I’ll do what I can to make it.
So what days work for everybody? And are we leaning towards the one I mentioned in Renton?
It is definitely easy to get to, and for you Bus Riders it has a stop literally at the front door
HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)
As long as I have a couple weeks advance notice of the date for planning.
And there are no last minute changes in the time, anyone that feels they can’t make it due to transportation issues, give me a holler via my email and we can probably work something out. Or the ride home if it’s too late for public transportation, I don’t mind being the designated driver.
I’m coming from just north of Seattle. If there are a couple of stops to make and etc. etc., I’m sure a decent route could be worked out. Going a bit south isn’t that big of a deal for me either. Head ‘em up and move ’em out, raaawwwwhiiiiiiiiiide! Hee ya! (I’m a dork)

Since I watched the preview to the Clint Eastwood movie 'Gran Torino'.
I haven’t been able to get all things Clint out of my head. I wish wish wish I knew how to clip a video, he deliver the best ‘get off my lawn’ line of all time. Complete with M-1 Garand. Cause he’s old school like that. Actually, I’d almost expect a lever action Winchester or something.
I should amend my earlier "weekend only" comments
I am available on Thursday nights too, at least occasionally. I mean let’s face it, I’m in grad school for business, and I’m living in Salem.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind trying to get the Portland-area LLers to a thing at, say, Valley Lanes in Beaverton?

I suppose we could call ahead and reserve…
Screw you, Mariners. I'm back in football's loving arms. *edit: well, shit. This isn't going well.
Calling and reserving would definitely be the way to go
That’s why it’s helpful to get a grip on where would be best, and when would be best. Then we can handle scheduling

As for alleys I know of…I don’t know of much. I know of two i Bellevue. A higher end one at Lincoln Square and then AMF Lanes is pretty cheap. I’d be down to go pretty much anywhere on the west side

I've been having really weird shooting lately
I’m either putting up a 260+ game on my way to a 650-690 series, or I can’t hit the high side of 180 and end up with a sub-500 series.

Though I haven't been quite that extreme,
I’ve been madly inconsistent this year (though it’s getting better). My biggest issue is laziness, and not doing any maintenance on my equipment. I need to resurface all 3 of my balls. I’ve spent all year feeling like I’m a board off, and have been having trouble making adjustments. Ball repair will help this immensely, and they should all be finished by next week.

What balls are you throwing right now?
I usually stick with Brunswick equipment. I’m throwing this ball called Twisted Fury that I really like.
My favorite is Ebonite's The One, I've shot a pair of perfects with it
I also keep a Storm Jolt and a Brunswick Fuze Igniter. They’re all 16 pounds. I like the Igniter a little better than the Jolt. It controls pretty well through oil still after probably five or six years of use.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Nov 4, 2008 10:32 AM PST up reply actions
At my best, I could throw 130-140
I couldn’t throw a hook for shit and I never developed the arm strength to avoid throwing backup balls.
I’d be willing depending on date, time and location. The farther south or north of Seattle we go, the more difficulty I’ll have getting there.
For the record
these generally work better when someone throws a date and location out there, say two-plus weeks from now at Hillcrest? Whoever makes the official suggestion should try to get an idea of pricing, too.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Nov 2, 2008 10:30 PM PST reply actions
Yeah, I'm gathering that part
Work consumed me pretty heavy after I made the post, and I only just now read through this and got caught up. I’m going to check out pricing at Hillcrest, and then it’s just a matter of setting a date, but a mid-November sounds good, since it gives everybody time to plan for it

Hillcrest.

Time to get this moving
Going by the tone of things here, it sounds like Hillcrest is an ok choice for many of us here. I’m figuring scheduling something maybe on the 21st or 22nd (only way to fit my schedule). I will be there this Wednesday and will get the word on pricing and availability. So I’ll just need to know if Friday (21st) or Saturday (22nd) works better for everybody.

I vote for the 21st.
I throw a big “Hey did you know JFK got shot?” party on November 22nd every year. Otherwise known as my Mom’s Birthday.
I could only do the 21st. I've got tournaments in Portland on Saturday and Sunday.
Although I might skip the Saturday tournament if the Willamette football team makes the playoffs.

And have the lady bowl too. Won’t hurt (unless she’s physically incapable, in which case it will hurt).

Keep an eye out for a post here later tonight or tomorrow morning
I’m going to be at Hillcrest tonight for my league, and I will get details on everything while I’m there. I’ll figure for the 21st. I’ll let everybody know what it will cost once I get back

What time are we looking at on the 21st?
I know of a couple people on here (Sec 108, royalcurve) that I can give rides to, but I don’t get off work till ~6PM.
I don't really know everybody's thoughts on that
but I made reservations for 7:30, though I can change that if necessary. Lots of different pricing options, which attach to different times. I’m just about to start bowling, but I’ll update when I leave
HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)
All right everybody
Reservation has been set for the 21st. I made it for 7:30, which is the latest reservation they allow. There are several different pricing options for us. 2 hours of lane rental comes to $60 per lane, which includes shoe rental. Or, we could opt for pay-per-game at $4 per, and $4 for shoe rental. Or, we could wait and do the “Rock-it-Bowl” which starts at 10 and runs until midnight, and is $15 per person, including shoe rental. Which payment method is preferred by everybody? I already made a deposit on the reservation, so we’re there no matter what, so it’s just a matter of finalizing time and method of pay
HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)
Rock-it Bowl?
Laser lights, loud music, all that?
Man do I love midgets.
I would prefer the 7:30 option.
The 2 hour lane rental is fine if we have enough people otherwise pay to play works best.
My wife says she is going to join us also.
Good to hear.
I think pay to play would probably be the best option for most of us, to be honest. I only made a reservation just so that we didn’t get aced out if it happens to be busy.
HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)
Might be tough for me to get down south by 7:30,
But I hadn’t decided if I wanted to try to make the trek yet or not. I usually hang out with my buddy from Stanwood every other Friday, and this is one of those nights. Plus I would need to check with my better half.
Man do I love midgets.
It'd be nice to have you, but I understand
If nothing else we’ll maybe have to have a redux up your way
HA HA HA, your Grandpa's an ASS!- Tourette's Guy (R.I.P)
I might have my Fridays screwed up.
I may be free that day after all, we’ll just have to see if I’m up for a run down south when the date gets closer.
