10/15: Open NLCS Game 5 Thread
On the Dodgers' dropdown menu from which I selected Chad Billingsley, there is a player named Alberto Bastardo. He is one of three Bastardos currently playing minor league baseball. The Phillies have one too.

You all heard the plan:
Go opposite field. You can’t win against offspeed pitching unless you hit everything opposite field.
It's funny on YouTube for 5 minutes.
Why they made a half hour segment of it on a weekly basis boggles the mind.

it kicks ass high. You only need to concentrate for like 7 seconds and it hillarious

Yeah know, I don't know what to make of the Terminator Series.
It’ll have about 2-3 good episodes in a row, then have one really really bad episode. Then it just repeats the cycle.
I couldn't stomach it myself.
Interesting idea, but I’ve yet to see an episode I could watch for more than three minutes without rolling my eyes and changing the channel.
I'm back to liking midgets too much (Scrappy's comes first, don't worry).
You should have seen how he protected his team from the post-game spread.

I would be much more entertained by a good series.

Last years playoffs were much worse.
3 DS sweeps, with a fourth going just 4 games. A NLCS sweep and a WS sweep.
It might be one of the most unmemorable series ever IMO.
I remember Game 6 being pretty good….and that’s just about it.
3 one run games
Game 7 wasn’t a blowout, not too bad.
by JI on Oct 15, 2008 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions
I take that back. 2005 was worse.
That was the first World Series I can remember that I got bored watching.
2005 was the worst WS ever
two mediocre teams, no superstars beside Clemens (who got hurt), and a sweep.
by JI on Oct 15, 2008 6:31 PM PDT up reply actions
Seriously.
There are times when people talk about the White Sox winning a World Series and my first reaction is “They did?…..oh yeah.”
As much as it pains me to say it, I thought the 2000 World Series was great.
I didn’t give a shit about the NY-NY thing, but every one of those games was exciting.
It's on the list
The best part is that game 6 was a blow out so it gave you time to anticipate an awesome game 7.

He’s from New York, the Yankees have money, need a DH, and would like to stick it to Boston. Plus, he and Alex together…
by JI on Oct 15, 2008 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions
But Manny creates a logjam in the OF
Obviously he’s the best, but they already have Damon, Matsui, Cabrera, Gardner, Nady, and that’s making the assumption that they don’t pick up Abreu’s option
Go Nova
Manny is the DH
No one in their right mind would project him as an outfielder over the length of that deal.
by JI on Oct 15, 2008 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah, but that still keeps at least 2 of those OF on the bench.
And Posada might not be able to catch. IMO, they are best served by getting Tex and CC. So I really hope they get Manny, but to me the move would cause a roster problem
Go Nova
Well yeah, but it'll be much easier for them to sign Manny
and he’s the more marketable player.
by JI on Oct 15, 2008 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh I agree completely.
Plus the fact that they can stick it to Boston. I’m sure Hank is pushing for that, but it’s not a move I’d make

This would make me so happy

nice Petco is beautiful.
Went for the WBC a few years ago. Loved everything about the ballpark, except for the fact to go from one base side to the other side you lose sight of the field for a while. The bars around the park were solid too.

Just pick a team.
The NL may be the weaker league to some, but I enjoy the small game, the double switches, etc. I prefered when they didn’t have inter-league, so that way the only way I could see my too favorite teams play would be in a dream World Series. Dodgers vs Mariners would be west-coasttastic

Abridged History of LL Moderation
2003: Leone For Third founded- Jeff is sole moderator
Early 2004- Trent from Mariners Rumblings & Grumblings and Devin from ESPN board added as mods
Early 2005- L43 becomes LL, moderation stays the same
Since then in rough order, Gomez added, Trent dropped, Matthew/Graham added, Gomez/Devin dropped
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Washingtonhighways.org
actually I think Gomez was added after Matthew and Graham
because Matthew and Graham initially came as fill ins while Jeff was on vacation and then stuck around
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Washingtonhighways.org
Not at all
Steve Nelson, Trent and Deanna filled in for jeff during his eurotrip. Gomez was made a mod june of 07. Graham and Matthew became mods when Jeff finally realized that they were actually mods this febuary
This is mostly correct
But Trent wasn’t a fill-in, Trent had been around for a couple years
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Washingtonhighways.org
Right
Only when Matthew/Graham came around was there any shift in power- Jeff ran the show but Trent and Devin had authoring capabilities and used them and did occasionally modding. But it was always first and foremost Jeff’s blog

Yes
If you have an assigned UID that means you were around before, which you do

Thanks, guys.
Now I’m trying to find my first comment to see how stupid it was.
I think I read for a year before commenting, though, so we’ll see . . .
Was this your first comment really?

I thought you were around before that but a search for KnightofKingK doesn’t yield anything
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Washingtonhighways.org
I found that too, but I swear I was around before that.
I guess I just never commented.
Anyway, defending Adam Dunn seems totally trite nowadays. But it definitely could have been more embarrassing.
I knew there was something attracting me to this site.
At first I thought it was the fact that everyone — even the commenters! — knew how to write and were thoughtful in their opinions. But it probably was the Cannibal love.
Mine was ridiculous

Habit left over from message boards?
It is a good habit. Just kinda funny when they’re already threaded.
Re: God damn I was ahead of my time
Yes you were
I miss everyone being uncomfortable with threaded comments

Does this mean we get positive points together too?
Re: When it's time to party
We will party hard
Do you know whatever happened to that JPEG of you running Leone over?
Determined, Jonesing Commentor | Proud proprietor of Washingtonhighways.org
By the way you had a good suggestion for me once
in the final leoneforthird.org thread:
Here’s a tip: when you write a comment, leave it on the computer and go do something else for five minutes. If you still think it’s worth posting when you get back, then go ahead.
And I’m going to find that if it’s the last thing I do

Hell, I wonder if there will still be an internet in 20 years or if it will be replaced by something cooler

I'm trying to figure out what the shoe story comment was all about.
"Sorry I hit you in the helmet Hank, I meant to hit you in the neck." Stan Williams to Hank Aaron.
Is that new? I don;t remember it being like that before.
