Very random question (for anyone out there)
OK, I dont know why ive never wondered this before, but me and a friend were just having a discussion about this.
What would happen if, before the all-star game, a first place leader in votes of the AL gets traded to a team in the NL? They wouldn't re-do the voting just because of one player, but what would actually happen?
I said that he would start out fresh with 0 votes, and any votes that he gets after he is traded will be his new total. My friend tried to argue that MLB wouldnt make someone miss the all-star game cause he got traded, but he doesn't have another option.
Now, I know the all-star game doesnt (well, shouldnt) matter, but is there a rule out there that says what actually would happen in a situation like this?

I would think the votes would transfer
but I don’t know.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
I believe the votes don't carry over
but most All-Star coaches would have the courtesy to select them to the roster as a reserve.
The players get to choose a few players to the bench.
The #2 would get in for the league.
The player would get voted in by the other players.
I think that is how it would go down.
Carlos Beltran got traded while getting voted on to the AL team
He played for the NL after he switched teams to take the spot of Jr. in 2004

Yeah, it's coach's courtesy I believe..
I think Willie McGee lost out on an MVP award one year due to a trade however.

…because of a little-known “double earflap helmet” clause in the MVP charter, section 505©(3), paragraph seven.
None of what I just said is true, but a man can dream.
Sports and Bremertonians. Because we can.
Maybe he means that someone getting traded into McGee's league lost him the MVP?
NOTE: I did not look up any information on this, to see if it was at all likely.
