Around SBN: Dissecting Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Adieu Fellow LL'ers

Well, the time has come.  I actually debated for awhile if i was going to keep quiet, or make a quick post about it.

I've been a fan of this site since the LF3 days. I've had a ton of fun playing softball and football with you guys, and going to games.

However I have been given a chance to really make a change in my life, and as of Wednesday the 30th of january, I will be serving a mission for my church for roughly 2 yearsish.  I've never been one to preach to my friends, and that will continue. My ability to follow baseball will be greatly diminished besides the a weekly newspaper, and Brett hooking me up with weekly email updates.

You guys can bet that i'll be back on this site in 2 years, and immersing myself back into this great game.

I've made some great friends here, so i felt comfortable posting about me leaving.  I'll be limited to roughly 30 minutes of internet access a week, and most of that will be consumed by writing to my family and friends.

I'll never force or even suggest my beliefs to you guys, but i know this is what i felt was right to do.

If i get the chance, i'll try to make an occasional post, but if not, i'll be back in late december/early January 2010.

I would like to thank all of you guys for teaching me so much more about this game. Jeff for the recaps and showing new sabermetric stats that really make sense, and the rest of you guys who made it out for my Softball and Football games.

Alright, i'm done rambling about this. For the next 2 years, i'll be living in the Cleveland and Northern Ohio area Moving around periodicly, and  I'll have a decent chance to attend an Indians game too. I'll never leave the Mariners though.

Farewell LL, I have a few pics from our events in my traveling photo album. I'll miss you guys

GO MARINERS!

Have fun.
When you get back, this site will be solely dedicated to beer and lists.

i believe it
I actually enjoy the beer threads, and the food threads, and the restaurant threads, and... well we already know.

Just point me in the direction of where I can daily recaps and W/E reports when  i get back.

I'm sorry,
why will you be restricted to 30'/wk in Ohio? I thought at first you were going to the amazon or something, but Ohio is relatively civilized.

by Bearskin Rugburn on Jan 27, 2008 5:53 AM PST reply actions

it all depends on where they want you
i had a friend goto brazil, i have a friend that is in japan right now.  Both of my brothers went, one went to north florida, and the other went to wisconsin.  It depends on where they want you

I'm not asking why Ohio
I'm asking why only 30 minutes of internet time per week in Ohio. Or is isolation part of the deal?

by Bearskin Rugburn on Jan 27, 2008 12:05 PM PST up reply actions

well, its 30 to an hour
and yes, they have found that isolation (as crazy as it sounds) really helps you focus on what are doing.

i expect a thoroughly detailed post on the highway
system of northern ohio, and the history by tuesday night, sir.

The only reason anyone has ever heard of Ohio
is because Niel Young wrote a song with the same title.

Ohio is not cooler than Brazil
never has been, and never will be.

Nobody ever makes calendars about Ohioan swimsuit models.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Brazilian women >>>> Ohioan women
And again, not even close.

I agree
I may be a rabid fan of the state of Ohio, but I know where to draw the line. There's just no comparison

Congratulations.
I served in Washington, D.C. from 2002-2004.

When my parents came to pick me up, we were able to drive up to Baltimore to catch an Orioles game. I think it was September 24th, 2004. The Orioles were playing against the Tigers and were down 5-4 in the 9th. Miguel Tejada came up to the plate with two on and crushed a walk-off homerun to straightaway center. It was an awesome game and I was glad to get back to watching the Mariners play.

Good Luck Chas
and thanks for humoring all us hell-bound atheist types. I hope you make your church proud and have a fantastic experience.

i have no problem with atheists. Everyone is free to  believe what they want. Who am i to judge.  I'm happy to have made as many new friends as i have on LL.

Have a great time, Chas!
The friends I know that have gone on missions have come back better people than when they left.  I know Ohio doesn't sound too exotic, but I'm sure it'll still be a great experience for you.  Oddly enough in the case of a pair of twin brothers I know who went on missions, the one that went to Russia came back basically the same guy as when he left while the one that went to Wisconsin ended up returning a much changed person (in a good way).  Go figure :)

by ningwers on Jan 28, 2008 8:41 AM PST reply actions

thanks man
i actually have a brother who went to wisconsin from 99-01 and he came back different as well.

Crazy that my whole life changes in 2 days

Good Luck
It could be worse, a co-worker of mine was just sent to south Chicago, and another to Fort Worth Texas.  Have fun, as much as they'll let you anyway.

and don't take any crap from people who think you are over the top.  I expect to meet up with you again at safeco in a couple years.
