It's Appropriately Raining In San Diego Right Now
I know the majority of us aren't particularly thrilled at the moment, but while a longer post is coming later on, at least Erik Bedard is really fucking good.

Any ideas about whether we will
Also what is Bedard's health status right now?
Too early for extension talk

Its raining in the bay too :(
Is it kinda wierd to anybody that our rotation is basically locked up now for a while?
I'm just gonna throw out the phrase
by Edgar for Pres on Jan 27, 2008 5:04 PM PST up reply actions
of course 3/5th of it leaves after 2009
This deal only works out
Wouldn't the FO have to throw out the most money for him in 3 years if Adam Jones is putting up monster numbers?
Hell yea
Our rotation is pretty tight now. No more HoRam/Morrow for #5.
FIP/xFIP/Chone ERA projection
Bedard 3.33/3.13/3.58
Washburn 4.83/5.30/4.31
Batista 4.61/5.12/4.60
Silva 4.35/4.67/4.48
You've got to love those Chone predictions. If that is right I'll be very happy.
tRA* thinks his ERA might be below 3 next year

I'm not gonna say I don't believe that
by Edgar for Pres on Jan 27, 2008 5:05 PM PST up reply actions
He is, in my opinion, the 2nd best pitcher
by Graham MacAree on Jan 27, 2008 5:07 PM PST up reply actions
If 2007 was real, then he could pull it off
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 5:07 PM PST up reply actions
yeah
I don't even want to think what would happen

That's fair
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 5:15 PM PST up reply actions
the good news is that I found no evidence of that
Boy, it would have made sense to hire Mazzone huh?
sorry, I flipped the meaning
We hurt now, but lets have fun:
1.Felix
2.WASH
3.Batista
4.HoRam
5.Weaver
2008:
1.Bedard
1.Felix
3.Silva
4.Batista
5.Washburn
Very, very nice rotation. If our defence plays to its potential, we should be hard to score against.
If our defense plays to its potential
Sexson, Vidro, and Willie?

I'd have hoped that if Bavasi

That curve/slurve ... that's my second favourite pitch in baseball just behind Johan's circle change.
I love the announcers after..
Losing A.J. BLOWS but, the return could be worse.

Baker says he's open to an extension now.
Not sure if I'd want to extend Bedard
You're welcome

We need
We need a Chris Antonelli in the M's front office
Hahaha could you imagine?
by seattlesundevil on Jan 27, 2008 5:40 PM PST up reply actions
I've found out why the Orioles might want Sherrill
You realize you scared him away.
My Mariner fandom
I love having Bedard, but this a steep price.
We also learned that when Bavasi and another GM are 'not budging', Bavasi will cave.
Side note, this definitely qualifies for gamethread emotion, right? Fuck damn shit.
We don't know if Bavasi caved.
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 5:56 PM PST up reply actions
I think it's MacPhail who caved
Of course the price could still be very high even if that's the case.
Actually
Slowly the Reds dropped out since they refused to give up Bruce, so the Orioles were left to accept the Mariners' offer. Rumor is that 4 players are going to the Orioles, but I doubt the 4th is important.
I'd be surprised if Bavasi doesn't feel like he came out on the winning side here. He obviously wasn't adverse to trading Jones in the first place.
Good point, both of you
Still, Carlos Triunfel is the difference between me following the Mariners in the long term vs. me following the Brewers. Good God can they keep at LEAST one of my favorite players? :(.
They still have Beltre and Felix

To make things easier on myself
SP E.Bedard for:
OF A.Jones
OF I.Suzuki
SP F.Hernandez
RP J.Putz
wow
by seattlebruin on Jan 27, 2008 7:32 PM PST up reply actions
I'll never EVER leave the Mariners
So....What are we HAPPY with giving up?
Is AJ/Tillman/Sherrill the best we're gonna see?
I'm happy with giving that up, when you really think about it(that AJ was leaving no matter what).
If Carlos/Morrow are BOTH NOT in the deal, I'd say we didnt do horrendously.
Tillman > Morrow in terms of this trade
by Graham MacAree on Jan 27, 2008 6:03 PM PST up reply actions
100% true.
there is still the chance Tillman isnt who we think he'll be.
same with Carlos.
But your point makes sense.
Im happy with Carlos staying, truthfully.
Pretty satisfied with that
I want to wait until this is all finished. If the Mariners continue to run Ibanez and Vidro out there every day and use Morrow in the pen, we didn't gain much for '08.
But if they sign Kenny Lofton and/or Wilkerson as platoon players and move Ibanez to 1B/DH.....different story.
Not loving the trade for Jason Bay talk, though.
poop. Poopity-poop.

I am going to have a horrific hangover

I've had a bottle of gin since the deal went down
This is a worrisome combination.

So my advice to you is, if you're going to try to drink this all away, wear pads.
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 6:16 PM PST up reply actions
I was wearing my pads
The other team had a fucking England international.
by Graham MacAree on Jan 27, 2008 6:18 PM PST up reply actions

So
Anyone think Balentien will be in it? I doubt he is involved in the trade...
Trying to calm down. For me, its not because its a bad trade...its because its my favorite players. Again. Thats why im whining so much. Aside Lopez, who isnt special anymore, there is noone on the roster im willing to overcook food for when said player comes to the plate. Just defending myself before im ripped for talking Brewers. Remember, I still watch every Sonics game.
Well...at least pitching should be fun to watch
Bedard-Felix>Webb-Haren
Granted - its probably just because

thanks for the flashback
hmmm
Another Question
What happens to Ho? Morrow?
Our 3-5 pitchers cost a ton for their spots now.
Ho disappears
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 6:37 PM PST up reply actions
Hmm
Morrow is pretty interesting. He belongs in Triple A starting, but if Sherill is involved (he claims he hasnt been called about anything yet), I guess Morrow is a lock for the bullpen.
This whole thng is giving me brain cramps.
It'll never happen
2 ifs for the bullpen
Rotation of Bedard, Felix, Silva, Washburn Batista
Bullpen of JJ, Sherrill, Morrow, Lowe, O'Flaherty, Green, Rowland-Smith
I don't know about better

and Jones
Who do you want to believe, a GM that can't comment until a deal is finalized, or a player that has been directly been told?
by MfaninAlaska on Jan 27, 2008 6:59 PM PST up reply actions
I'm excited
well, from jim street
The Mariners apparently would send Jones, left-handed reliever George Sherrill and Minor League pitcher Chris Tillman, along with one more Minor League player, to the rebuilding Orioles for Bedard.
Someone should probably tell that to George
by Jeff Sullivan on Jan 27, 2008 7:16 PM PST up reply actions
That makes this trade make less sense

bedard isn't that bad
by GarlicFryCubFan on Jan 27, 2008 7:42 PM PST reply actions
Rosenthal is reporting
How THE FUCK does a PITCHER HELP THE OUTFIELD!!!!!
2 shitty starting pitchers
2 shitty outfielders. One of which was rated as one of the WORST at his JOB in the industry.
A first baseman that was so bad, he even said (yesterday) he prefered playing away because no one boo-ed him there.
A DH who can't field, can't run and do not hit for power. (And if you watched the games, he got a bunch of hits because the other team was unable to turn a double play!)
AND finally one bullpen spot that went to a physically more mature pitcher that had nothing else to give to this team other than showing the kids what their balls were going to look like at
the age of 40.
______________
Bedard is a great pitcher. I will be very happy to see him pitch. I will take 100's of photos of him over his time with the Mariners. With any luck
BUT how the fuck does Bedard help with any of this?
