Movies you've "seen"
That greatest movie thread got me thinking. There are a lot of classic movies that I haven't seen but I know the details so I just say I've seen them. Does anyone else do this?
My list includes:
The Godfather
Psycho
Casablanca
Dr. Strangelove
Schindler's List
Citizen Kane
Saving Private Ryan
I pretty much know the plots and lines from all of these movies, so I get by, but I feel pretty bad about it.

Meh, in a way, they're not OT enough.
I want to know how
You'll find out.
People you "know"
My list includes:
Britney Spears
Jerry Seinfeld
Steve Pool
RZA
Adam Carolla
Jaleel White
Tracy Morgan
I pretty much know everything there is to know about them, so people actually believe me when I say I'm friends with them, but I feel pretty bad about it.
Noticably absent from this list?
//because you HAVE met her. LOL!

And then Dr. Strangelove
It's no Shakes the Clown but...
Btw Shakes the Clown is known as the Citizen Kane of drunken clown movies or is it perhaps that Citizen Kane is the Shakes the Clown of historical biopics.
I'm totally getting flamed for this:
For such a "great" film, it had some of the worst acting I've ever seen. James Caan's character was laughable, and every death scene looked like it was lifted straight out of a 1930's era slapstick comedy.
I'm not exactly a connoisseur of films from that era, so perhaps seeing it just recently out of context from the era in which it was filmed is unfair, but I expected more from it.

You are correct
Citizen Kane
The Top 1000 movies ever
Now, most of you kids wont see your faves as some of the source lists date back to the 1950's and really, it's film snobs who make up these lists anyway. But, as far as these things go it's pretty thorough and not really based on the biases of just a couple of critics.
So here they are, the top 1,00 movies ever made. Now go out and rent the top 100 and you too can be the film snob at parties.
http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_ranking1-100.htm
and here's how they came up with the list
http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000.htm
and just for fun the top 100 directors from the list
http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000_top100directors.htm
Well for a few reasons
Reminds me of a qoute from Bob Dylan on his XM radio show - Theme Time Radio Hour, paraphrasing, "people accuse me of playing too many old songs on the show, well, it turns out there's more old songs than new ones'
Just curious
off the top of my head:
-The Usual Suspects
-Full Metal Jacket
-Shawshank Redemption
-Requiem for a Dream
-Reservoir Dogs
-Good Will Hunting
-Pulp Fiction
-Fargo
-The Matrix (again for film-making impact)
Others that have merit:
-Titanic (cliche and base, but it executed it to perfection)
-Silence of the Lambs
-Indiana Jones
-Glory
-Scarface
-Platoon
Not saying all of those warrant top 100, but I think they should all be within the top 200, and at least half or so should crack the top 100.
Full Metal Jacket - Maybe
My picks would be Wings of Desire or Paris, Texas.
other maybes
Down by Law
In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar-wai
Brazil
Blood Simple
Eraserhead
One has to consider there's over a hundred year history of films to take into account and it really becomes a pretty short list of candidates. Not that they're bad movies you listed (Titanic aside) but they just don't make the cut IMHO. O.K. I'll give you The Matrix as a possible.
wings of desire
