will be fun to watch for however long the team stays in Seattle. It's been a while since we've had a young, legit superstar to feel great about.

Durant is currently overhyped.

He will be great someday. But that day is not now. He needs to shoot less and they need to stop depending on him as much.

That's a fantastic point that hadn't even occurred to me. My only rebuttal is that he's not the only player on the team with some talent. Even some of the players that have been on the team for 2-3 years really need to learn to step up their game, and relying on Durant this much isn't helping anyone. It's barely helping him, if at all.

I watched them lose in OT last night

and I was struck at a couple of things.

Ridnour and Collison really want to win and are trying mighty hard to still be future cornerstones of this franchise.

Delonte West and Wally Szerbiak suck. They should get traded for a bag of Dicks burgers.

Willcox was a lot better when defenses had to key on Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis.

Durant and Green have special tools and will develop into stars, but they need lots of playing time and lots of shots attempted (especially for Durant) to get there. Even though he got scorched, it was fun watching Green defend Kobe in the final quarter and the OT. If this team has any chance of contending in the future, Durant and Green have to become the star players they lost in Lewis and Allen. And they need to be surrounded by solid workhorses like Luke and Nick and Kurt Thomas and Earl Watson.

I agree.

Although I was struck by a few more things.

First, the new coach is fuckdiculously bad at making plays. That shot by Durant with 6 seconds left was unbelievably stupid.

Second, Green doesn't get nearly enough credit for the player he can become.

Also, don't forget how terrible Petro, Swift and Gelebale are. They are embarrassments.

My only argument is that Ridnour has his problems, and they affect the rest of the team. I actually sat behind Ray Allen once at a Restaurant and eavesdropped as he ranked on Luke for not taking shots when he needs to and pulling up for tougher passes, etc. I'm talking 15 minutes or more of explaining why Ridnour is a problem. This was before Allen was traded, though. I don't know if anything changed.

Also, West is not terrible. He's not good, but he's not bad. I wouldn't call him Szerbiak, who is the embodiment of suck.

Luke...

was effective last night at hitting the tear drop runner... either off the glass or on quick pull ups after penetrating into the paint and not having any slashers to dish to. You have to bury some of those shots to make defenses respect you and he did.

But I think he's effective when he only has to play half the game. He and Antonio were a great two-headed monster because they could both run the offense and kept each other well rested. I think he and Earl should continue to share equal minutes at the one.

Collison was a monster last night... he had so many clean up buckets you started expecting him to tipjam any missed shot. He scored about 20 points on other people's misses. He also had close to 20 boards just based on hustle and positioning. Lastly, he has soft hands and hits his freethrows pretty well for a big man.

I try to watch every game

My favorite player is Jeff Green, just cause he's gritty and hustles, attributes that matter a lot more in basketball than in baseball. Then Delonte is the shit. And I love watching Mo Sene play because he doesn't know how but always gives lots of energy and runs like a gazelle. Too bad he never ever plays.

he's done better lately but

in the beginning of the season did you see collison try to finish around the basket. Almost everytime he got blocked.

When I watch Delonte

I see him fucking up the little things... like when a big man is trapped with the ball outside the three point line. He's got to come to the passer and come fast so that he's wide open and an easy target. In last night's game, he sort of waltzed over for the pass, was overplayed by his man resulting in an easy pick off... then he didn't even try to get back on D... giving the Laker defender an easy layup.

As for shitty teams, you could talk about the Huskies as well!

Its better to have shitty teams than no teams, however. You guys have three major pro franchises (hopefully the Sonics stay), Oregon has only one.

At least you can see baseball in your own state, even if it is shitty baseball.

Been to lots of Emeralds games

when I lived in Eugene. Civic Stadium is one of the best places to see a game bar none. A shame that it'll only be around for a couple of more seasons. My Ducks are getting baseball next year as well.

I now live in PDX and go to a few Beavers games every year. But Salem sucks, and that freeway stadium they have sucks, so I avoid the Volcanoes.

Minor League ball is great. But its no comparison to MLB.
