I can't be the only one to notice:
Since August 23, Felix Hernandez has 3 wins, good for 3 more than the rest of the M's staff combined.  Taken by itself, I dunno if that's a silver lining or just part of the cloud, but he's also been (mostly) great lately, in spite of the luck and bad umpires pouring buckets of runs over his head.  If there's cause to have hope for the Mariners' future, he's it.

Baseball will be better
than football. Always.

However i follow both of them extensively.

Who's gonna make the
"Hey, it's a football score, on the first day of football, whoooaaa!!!" comment? I guess i just did

Heh
Kitna and the Lions scored 36.  Guess they showed us.

But it was against the Raiders
You automatically have to figure in the Oakland Radiers team factor of 5.14. Using the factor actual Lions offensive ouput was 7.

by Ben in Va on Sep 9, 2007 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

You're forgetting that the Radiers D
Was incredibly legit last year.  Their D was one of the best in the league, their O just sucked nutz.

by SethGrandpa on Sep 9, 2007 4:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Didn't forget that
But due to the bumblefuddleness of the Raiders offense and the 100% gritty Bloomquistness/whiteness of Kitna the factor works out that way.

by Ben in Va on Sep 9, 2007 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah
The greatest defense in the world eventually wears down and coughs up points when their offense can't do crap.

Jeff, question
Have you ever given football a chance? Its pretty awesome, man. I know alot compare it to hockey because of the brutality, but I wont because one is on ice and the other grass/turf, but man...

...its fun rooting for a winner. The Seahawks are fun to watch.

by Slica on Sep 9, 2007 4:51 PM PDT reply actions

I think Jeff likes his football
he posted on Field Gulls a few times last season, and If I remember correctly, he went pretty nuts when the Hawks beat the Rams in st. louis.

seahawks a winner?
i know they made it to the super bowl and won, but the NFL does not recognize that victory.

I am a Seahawks fan.
Have been for as long as I've followed the Mariners. But I really just don't like the sport very much anymore.

I find college football a lot more fun
It doesn't seem as pedestrian as NFL football.  Sure, great plays happen, but there's a lot of momentum stasis in most NFL games.

by Gomez on Sep 10, 2007 8:11 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah
This weekend, I had more fun watching random college football games involving teams in which I had no vested interest than watching the Seahawks game.

by G_ on Sep 10, 2007 11:23 AM PDT up reply actions

Personally
I cannot stand football unless I have a rooting interest. I can sit down and actively watch any MLB game, but any football game in which I don't care for the teams involved I may have on TV, but I'll be doing other things.

Four years living in Philly during NFL season and getting only Jets, Giants, Eagles, etc games (e.g. teams I care nothing about) taught me to live without watching football. Except for Hawks games (and the Colts when they're on) now that I live back in Seattle, I don't watch football.

MLB and top level Soccer are pretty much the only sports I can sit down and watch any game with fervent interest.

-Hockey - just the playoffs
-Basketball - I'll somewhat follow the NBA playoffs, will rarely watch a game unless a team I care (Seattle or San Antonio) about is playing a big game. Will watch March Madness.
-College Football - Will passingly watch/follow the Dawgs, will watch a bowl game involving Texas
-Baseball - can't watch college or anything but MLB, but can watch any MLB game
-Soccer - will watch pretty much anything that has a high level of play
-Tennis - will watch the majors, ignore pretty much everything else
-Golf - will follow the majors, tend to watch spurts the first 3 days, and most of Sunday, ignore the rest of the year

by Matthew on Sep 10, 2007 11:48 AM PDT up reply actions

My take:
-Hockey - Only in person (go Silvertips!), or during the playoffs
-Basketball - Any Sonics or Huskies game, will keep an eye on the NBA playoffs. Will watch some March Madness.
-College Football - Must watch the Huskies. Will watch some other Pac-10, and the big bowl games.
-MLB- Mariners and playoffs, and the occasional interesting looking game I run across.
-Soccer - Loved playing it, can't stand to watch it unless the USA is in the World Cup.
-Tennis - Never watch it.
-Golf - Follow the majors a bit, but only on Sunday.
-Racing- Watch NASCAR (Nextel Cup mostly) pretty much every weekend. I'll peek in on other racing series, and watch if it looks exciting. Watch the hydros at Seafair only.

EVERY Seahawks game, and I'll watch any NFL game, at any time.

My step-dad was a drag racer in his younger days,
and my grandpa and two of my uncles were big into quarter midget racing when I was younger (my grandpa's business sponsored multiple teams), so I caught the racing bug when I was really young. I've never been able to shake it, although I do miss the days when a Chevy looked like a Chevy, a Ford a Ford, and so on....

Well your in the minority in this country
Football is the number 1 sport here. I just can't get into soccer. The constant flopping to the ground by soccer players like they just been shot really bothers me.
You may run like Mays but you hit like shit

by houseofprime2 on Sep 10, 2007 3:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I know I'm a minority in that respect
I carry that knowledge with pride.

Also, re: constant flopping, don't watch Italian soccer. That clears about 50% of the problem.

I don't know that I agree about football being #1. I think baseball still has a big claim on that.

by Matthew on Sep 10, 2007 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions

i see you're a spurs fan . . .
constant flopping doesn't bother you.

sorry, i'm still recovering from manu ginnobli's performance last season.

I don't have a problem with Manu
taking every advantage he can get. I have a HUGE problem with the way NBA games are reffed, hence why I don't watch or care about the NBA.

I'm a spurs (and longhorns) fan simply because I grew up in San Antonio.

Sorry to hear that.
I played football for a long time and ill have you know  never resorted to calling soccer players foot fairies or orange eaters, okay maybe a little but i never understood the orange eater thing because I ate oranges at halftime occasionally as well.

Also
Watching Sunday night baseball, watching Ryan Garko absolutely destroy a Jered Weaver pitch made me uncannily happy.

What an odd season.
The A's are now in last place.

I'm going to the game next Sunday
Please tell me it's not The Ho starting on that day.

It'll be my first time since July 15th 1999.

Well that's not too bad
But damn I wish it was Felix.

Oh well anybody is better then The Ho and Weaver.

Anybody know who's going for Tampa Bay?

I'm debating whether it's worth it to skip class
on the 19th and go see Felix destroy the A's in the Coliseum. Even though the season's over it'll be my last chance to see him in person this year, and dollar hot dog day coincides nicely with the Mariners' last visit to Oakland.

Willie...
Awesome that Ballgame had a 0 in the WE chart. I mean, to not have any effect on the game, be it positive or negative, is pretty tough to manage, eh?
Still not making fun of Willie.

It's like a preview of the next three years...
...Felix pitches, win a game, then lose four straight. Felix pitches, win a game, then lose four straight.

We're going to go 32-130 the next 3 years.
