LL Mvp Baseball Thread (update 9-28)

Update [2007-9-28 3:43:49 by marinerschas2]: The major league roster is complete. i will be posting screenshots in the morning. The Pitching staff is complete.

SP:Jeff
SP:FWombat
SP:Marinerschas (had to)
SP:Gomez
SP:Corco
Long Man: Steve Trachsel
Middle Man: Rafael Soriano
Set Up: George Sherrill
Closer: JJ Putz
This is THE thread for any more MVP updates.

What I'm doing:
Creating a Lookout Landing team on MVP Baseball 2005 that will be available to download and play on your own. The team will consist of LL regulars and their screen names will be used as player names. We will be the Seattle Mariners. Jeff is our soft tossing lefty ace pitcher. I will post rosters/lineups when i complete them on this thread.

I will be making ratings based on what I've seen and then rate them up comparable to MLB players.  the game rates many skills on a 1-100 basis. Nobody will probably have a rating under 30.

I have taken all the information that everyone has posted, but i still need more.

What i still need
from everybody:

Age
Handedness both batting and throwing
Music style prefrence: (rock, heavy rock, country, dance, rap, pop or latin)
batting stance (name a comparable mlb player please)
fielding Glove color
High or Low socks

What i need from people who have never played softball with us along with the previous questions:
body type, height, weight, speed (compare to a current mlb player), hair color, facial hair

also i need positions if you didn't post them previously.  If you haven't played with us, you might be lucky to get a bench spot, but will likely end up in long relief or middle relief.

I will be updating this thread pretty frequently. I am hoping to have a decent roster done by the end of the week, with screenshots up sometime mid-week.

This team will also include the likes of Doyle, Carl Everett, Matt Kata and WFB, as well as other players we "love". and whether he likes it or not, RED will be our starting catcher.

The roster will be posted here shortly, and updated as i create it
If you have any other questions or requests that you dont want to post, or you just want to talk to me. Add me on AIM: bigchiz31 or msn: chasmarini @gmail.com (remove the space)

JOHNBAI: would you be willing to share other pics not posted from the LL games, I'd like to see if i have enough to even try portraits. email me or something

phildopip: i need a new number, 29 is reserved for red

Update [2007-9-25 5:40:14 by marinerschas2]: i'm done with the 7 or 8 player models who i had all the information for. i still have to make the other 10-15 players and then i'll start on every players ratings.
i also have bad news. certain players who weren't so hot at the plate have now become young and effective pitching

Sigh
Less than four weeks ago, I was in a bar in Bruges drinking that very beer (among others).  We have some good beers here in the Seattle area, but the selection and quality over there is unbelievable.

Is a giant tourist trap. My favorite beer is definitely Chimay tho. Can't top that Belgian beer

Meh
I was there on weekdays in early September, and it was fine.  It's a nice little town to spend a day or two in.  I took a tour of the Half Moon brewery there, and really liked their new beer:

Certainly better than Brussels, which was really, unbelievably dirty.  That Delirium bar with the 1000+ beers is pretty cool, though.

by FWombat on Sep 25, 2007 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree
Brugge is a good place to spend a day or two. But I couldn't do more than that. I actually really enjoyed Brussels, but I was lucky cause the team paid for a nice hotel in a nice area. The area I was in wasn't really dirty, maybe compared to Seattle but nothing like NYC.

Built like Blanton.
Run like Edgar or Vidro.
Same age as Player A (I'm literally three days older).
I'll choose Pop music (because classic psychedelic jazz polka isn't an option here).
Backup catcher is fine, as is mopup reliever.
Bat right, throw left.  Definitely NOT a switch-hitter.
Always thought red gloves were cool.
Look like an Oompa Loompa in high socks, so I better not go there (although I definitely like them on other players).
Never been much of a hitter, but give me Bagwell's batting stance.  Or Tony Batista's.  Or Craig Counsell's.  That'll at least be interesting, especially with my body type...
I only recently grew sideburns.  Definitely no porn moustaches here...

Eddie Collins, 3315 hits, 10th all time, also, a career .333 hitter, with a career .424 OBP, he was 5'9". Rabbit Maranville, he wasn't as great as some of these other guys, but he had 177 career triples and 2605 career hits, he was 5'5". Wee Willie Keeler, career .341 hitter with 2932 career hits and almost 500 stolen bases, he was 5'7". So please, short guys can be great players too.

When I was in high school, me and a few friends
hounded the hell out of this kid named Brandon Patrick. And when I say hounded, I don't mean just playful fucking with him, I mean we literally drove him out of the state.

I've always assumed that one day he's gonna snipe me when I'm walking down a street somewhere, or just getting out of my car.

These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

is the entire team going to have high socks?
because that would be the most awesome thing ever.

if the LL crew had actual baseball talent, we'd make one kickass team.

by Matthew on Sep 26, 2007 10:00 AM PDT reply actions

I'm going with the low socks
because I think you have to have speed to go high-socks... Granderson speed.  Otherwise you just look top-heavy... like big bird.

by johnbai on Sep 26, 2007 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions

What about Jim Thome?
He usually rocks the high socks. Exception to the rule?

I think Thome is...
more proof of the rule rather than exception. I wouldn't accuse him of being fast.

I think I earned the right...
to wear high socks in the video game cause I wore them for my senior season (in basketball) in college. We actually had 4 guys who did it, and sometimes we had all 4 on the court at once, it was pretty much awesome.

Kind of cruel hearted
to make me a free agent, don't you think? After all I've done for you? What did I do to deserve this?

its realistic
based on the way you played softball, then i project it to a major league level.  thats why it will take a while to do the minors rosters, because i basiclly have to make up stuff.

thanks to my alternator going out on the way home from the game, the 1st roster and screenshots are now gonna probably by sunday. sorry about the delay, but my car is pissing me off.  I'm still working on it, i tinkered with some ratings today. expect a major league roster out be sunday. with minors following a few days later.

will: enough of this. Welcome to Adelanto, California.

I think some of us are beyond the allowable
spectrum on the game (your age, my weight, etc)...

I was saying he couldn't put in your actual age,
Just like it probably wouldn't let him put in my actual weight (I've yet to find a baseball game that goes low enough to input my actual weight).

I forgot that you had requested a different age. If you want, you can have three of my years, I wouldn't mind being three years younger!
