Why would we trade for Parrish?
http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/archives/119730.asp
" Look for the Mariners to make a move today to pick up Baltimore left-handed reliever John Parrish, P-I reporter David Andriesen says.
Seattle, which will have to give up a minor leaguer, probably Sebastian Boucher, to get Parrish, hasn't yet decided on the roster move the club will need to make to get Parrish on the roster.
Parrish is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA for the Orioles this season. And since the Mariners are in Baltimore, he can just change clubhouses."

Why you ask?

What the fuck is with lateral moves like that?
The front office is a goddamn joke.

What's the point?

RRS and Potatoes are young.
You do the math.

Precursor to another deal, perhaps?
I'd have to think that they're trying to free up one of the young lefties for another deal. WHY ELSE WOULD THEY DO IT?
by WAB on Aug 9, 2007 12:30 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Because they aren't good at running a team.
by Jeff on Aug 9, 2007 12:31 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Seriously though
How could you possibly view Parrish as an upgrade to the 25 man roster? It can't be done...
by WAB on Aug 9, 2007 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
He's a veteran.

can't be another deal

Yet, we make the playoffs if they start today.

No, I've pretty much given up on THIS FO
The only way Antonetti in '08 comes is if we tank the rest of the year, and I can't see that happening, so I'm basically rooting for lucky. Hey, it worked for the 2002 Angels and the Marlins, twice.

WHY DO WE NEED JOHN PARRISH?
So instead of RRS or EOF, who can probably do anything John Parrish does for cheaper, or David Wells, who can do what HoRam does way better than HoRam, we have John Parrish.

I knew it was too good to last
Consider:
JJ Putz
George Sherrill
Sean Green
EOF
RRS
Lowe
Morrow
it's just an insane bullpen. Glad to know that Bavasi needed to actively make the team worse.
by Matthew on Aug 9, 2007 12:41 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
... and they send down Lowe to AAA
has hell frozen over?
by TyranT on Aug 9, 2007 12:42 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
actually, this makes sense
You know who makes more sense though? Morrow. To the AAA rotation.
Also, do we now have 4 LHP in the pen?

It amazes me that Bavasi
Any chance McLaren has something to do with this? I'm sure, if you were to ask him if there's a player he wants right now he would say something like, "Well, we've got veteran pitchers in the rotation and professional hitters in the lineup, but we've got a bunch of kids in the bullpen and I just don't trust them. Sigh. If only Reitsma hadn't gotten hurt."

I don't mind Lowe going to AAA
I don't see how Parrish is an upgrade, he's Jason Davis part II.

I wouldn't go that far

According to the Orioles announcers
This still doesn't explain how the team is much better for the trade (perhaps besides a bit of depth). But it makes more sense to "upgrade" for free via waivers. Then maybe Bavasi figures he'll drop someone he deson't see as a good fit for the organasiation anyway so that the Orioles feel better about it.
I'm just trying to work through a possible thought process as an airchair GM.

That they even pulled him back is hilarious
Even if they don't, it's the Orioles, they suck, and Parrish has no real upside.
