So, I've been trying to find a place online that will give me the stats for the highest SB% in back-to-back seasons of all time. Baseball-Reference has the info, but I don't pay for their Index, alas.
I wanted to find it, though, because Ichiro is currently sitting at 95% for this year and last combined, going 75 out of 79 attempts. That's just....just unbelievable.
Everyone knows that stolen bases are a bit dicey, with the outs resulting from CS often off-setting the added value of stealing bases. But Ichiro is quite simply not being caught. It's as though an extra 70 or so of his singles over the last 2 years have been doubles, an absolutely enormous addition to his already enormous offensive impact....
I know this isn't anything you guys aren't aware of, Ichiro's received a good amount of attention for his consecutive steals record, etc etc. But I just find it incredible that he maintains such a level of dominance.
Does anyone else have the info on the all time best? Has anyone bested a 95% success rate on steal attempts, at least since they started keeping track of caught stealings? I'm willing to bet that Ichiro might be the very best in this department.
