8/23 Minor League Wrap-Up

Whole lot of winning, offense and good starting pitching in this wrap-up, which is a veteran that has been through the wars and thus totally worth a bullpen spot, if not your time.

On to the wrap-up!

Star-divide

Dominican:  DSL Phillies 5, DSL Mariners 0
DSLMs:  34-29... DSL Phils:  45-17

Angel Echevarria:  4 IP, 6 H, 3 ER (HR), 3 K
Tony Bremon:  4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, walk, 7 K, hit batter
Joan Vizcaino:  1 IP, walk, K
DSLMs lineup:  3-29, walk, 13 K

Well, they decided the hell with replaying the rainouts, and so the DSLMs only played the one game against the Phils today.  It was just as well, as the best team in the division three hit the DSLM's and won in a walkover.

Today's game against the DSL Cards is the DSLMs SEASON FINALE.  In all, it was a good year for the squad, even if many of the bats and arms struggled down the stretch, and I hope to put together some sort of crack write-up this weekend.  One fewer team to cover as the minor league season winds down.

Arizona:  Mariners 8, Rangers 6
AZLMs:  13-10... AZL Rangers:  10-13

Johnny DuRocher:  5 IP, 10 H, 4 ER (HR), 2 walks, 3 K, 2 hit batters
Richard Ortiz:  2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, walk, 3 K
Taylor Bills:  two outs, 1 H
Travis Mortimore:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K
Tyson Gillies:  1-4, double, R, K (.205/.333/.274)
Brandon Fromm:  2-5, double, 2 R, RBI (.259/.321/.417)
Mario Martinez:  1-4, R, RBI, walk, K (.261/.291/.328)
Maximo Mendez:  4-5, triple, 3 R, RBI, K, SB #12 (.262/.383/.450)
Luis Nuñez:  3-5, 2 doubles, 4 RBI (.247/.291/.320)

The AZLMs jumped out to an 8-4 lead, giving Backup QB plenty of cushion despite his struggles, and the bullpen couldn't give it up despite some shaky work from Dick Ortiz and Travis Mortimore.

The AZL season is a bit longer than the DSL season, as the AZLMs still have 5 games left, including today's game.  Their season concludes next Wednesday.

a:  Everett 5, Spokane 4
EVE:  28-35... SPO:  29-33

Robert Harmon:  7 IP, 2 H, (2 R) 1 ER, walk, 6 K, 3 wild pitches
Mark Pettis:  two outs, 1 H, walk
Bryan Harris:  1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 K
Edilio Colina:  2-4, R (.278/.329/.367)
Gregory Halman:  1-4, solo HR, 3 K (.299/.366/.578)
Manelik Pimentel:  1-4, double, RBI, 2 K (.273/.344/.416)
Joe Dunigan:  3-4, double, R, K (.221/.276/.291)
Kalian Sams:  2-4, 2 doubles, R, RBI, K (.227/.320/.422)
Welington Dotel:  1-4, RBI, 3 K (.261/.299/.395)

InSp0 was right about Spokane sucking, as even Robert Harmon was able to have a good night pitchign to them, and it took a late 2 run rally for Spokane to make it a 1 run game... which didn't stop the Aquasox from winning ANOTHER game against the Indians.

With less than 15 games left in the NWL season, it's starting to look like a realistic possibility that the East division winner will have a sub-.500 record.  Spokane actually leads their division right now with their 29-33 record.  Everett, meanwhile, resides in the West division, where Salem-Keizer's 48-15 record gives them a commanding lead.

Alright, gotta jet.  Unless anything super cool happens, you're pretty much getting boxes.

Joe Kantakevich:  1 IP, K

Kuo Hui Lo:  2-4, solo HR, 2 R, 2 K, SB #27 (.284/.359/.420)

James McOwen:  1-3, 2 RBI, walk, K (.276/.302/.324)

Jesus Guzman:  3-5, R, RBI (.294/.367/.526)

WTN:  25-34... CHA:  30-29

Joe Woerman:  8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, walk, 8 K
Mumba Rivera:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, K, wild pitch
Michael Saunders:  2-3, double, RBI, K (.326/.404/.500)
Matt Tuiasosopo:  1-4, solo HR (.269/.383/.412)
Jeff Frazier:  2-4, R (.243/.298/.323)
Erick Monzon:  1-3, 2 run HR, walk, 2 K (.213/.292/.355)
Rene Rivera:  1-4, double, 2 K (.215/.273/.314)

Joe Woerman did such an awesome job last night that not even Mumba Rivera could screw it up.  NEEEEEXT.

AAA:  Tacoma 8, Portland 4
TAC:  62-71... POR:  55-78

Ryan Feierabend:  7 IP, 3 H, (3 R) 2 ER, 3 walks, 9 K

Charlton Jimerson:  3-4, 2 run HR, SB
Oswaldo Navarro:  2-4, double, 2 R, K (.252/.309/.329)

Feir had a good night and the future Sperm Sox got pwned.  And WLAD will be back tomorrow!

I'm out of time!  Somebody tell Bavasi and McLaren that Nick Green is a veteran that has been through wars, kthx.
