Take Two...
Game 1, Sox all over Lackey early... 6-1 Boston in the bottom of the second. Bases loaded, 60 pitches already for the Halos' hurler. Clay Buchholz making his MLB debut for the BoSox. Nightcap tonight, so Scosia is keeping his pen on the pine so far. EDIT: Game 2 at 7:05 EST.

It would be brutal, no doubt about it.
The Mariners let Rene Rivera pretend to be a backup catcher for years. Whoever Boston has down in AA should be able to handle one game.

Anybody that roots against the Yankees
I gotta say...
However, just remember how much EVERYONE hates the Yankees and Yankee fans. Then tell me who you'd rather have in the playoffs.. the Nation or the Pinstripes.
by Brian Sullivan on Aug 17, 2007 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions
I started watching baseball during the strike year
But after that, I'll take the Yankees over Red Sox every single time. Sox Nation has overtaken the Empire as the most annoying self righteous fan base in the game.
Yankees fans, weather we like it or not, at least have some credible reason to act like they do. 26 titles is 26 titles. And they have a few that are relatively recent. The Red Sox have 1, ONE title in almost 90 years and all of a sudden they think they have the right to act just like the Yankees fans? No, I don't think so. The Florida Marlins have more titles over that time span. Red Sox fans shouldn't even be in the Yankee fans league as far as acting like they do.
The Yanksox are now one in the same and so are their fanbases. The problem is, one kinda has some merit, the other has zero.
So for now, if I have to choose, I root for the Red Sox over the Yankees so long as it means the Yankees miss the playoffs. But after that, it's the Yankees all the way.
Agreed in part,
The arrogance comes from the bandwagoners. The real fans still remember what it feels like to choke year in, year out.

Red Sox Nation=Bandwagoners
Um...
by Brian Sullivan on Aug 17, 2007 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions
In terms of fans
However, as far as the teams go, I will always hate the Yankees more. The Red Sox still aren't my favorite team out there, but that's just because of my natural tendency to root for the underdog, which the Red Sox are not.
However, the Yankees are everything I hate about what baseball is becoming. If they were just a consistently winning team, I would be fine with it. As much as the Athletics bug me, as much as I hate them, I totally admire how well the organization is run(despite the off year). But the Yankees would be nowhere without a 220 million dollar payroll. They are the type of organization that is running up the price of baseball, and in turn making it less and less accessible to the general population.
Not to mention the 2000 and 2001 ALCS's...

even though I'm a Sox fan...
Yes, you need to build a solid system top-to-bottom to hope to have sustained success, but doesn't every team wish it had the option of doing what the Yanks do?

I think you're right about the M's.
I grew up in the Seattle area, and in Hawaii, so my choices for sports teams were pretty much Seattle or nothing (although I did really like the Chargers back when Dan Fouts was playing, mostly because we had the same name).
And for no good reason,

that's funny shit
