Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

7/7: Open Game Thread

First Pitch: 1:05pm PDT

Ichiro CF                  Stewart LF Vidro DH                   Kotsay CF Ibanez LF                  Swisher RF Guillen RF                 Cust DH Sexson 1B                  Chavez 3B Beltre 3B                  Johnson 1B Betancourt SS              Ellis 2B Lopez 2B                   Crosby SS Burke C                    Kendall C ---------- ----------

Hernandez (4-4, 4.11)      Harden (1-1, 1.17)

Over his career, Rich Harden has allowed just 13 hits to current Mariners in 115 at bats. Richie Sexson's .692 OPS is the best of anyone with a decent sample size. This could easily turn out to be one of those games I'm glad to be missing.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

Just think if he wasn't injured so much
It would be something like 20 hits in 9000 abouts. I exaggerate but you get the point.

I believe he is on a 70 pitch limit today. The M's should take that piece of knowledge and not hack away.

But this is the M's, so I expect Harden to throw 70 through 7.

9000 abouts...
Yeah. Ummm...it's the Canadian pronounciation for at bat.

It's early. Way, way, way too early.

Its so early,

I feel pretty good about this game
But with radio only + family BBQ I won't get to listen in. Probably just check my phone every inning or so for updates. Make me proud boys.

by the way,
i had a dream in which we were losing 36-13 after 4 innings, and then some gave up 100 runs in one inning.

if we lose like this, i may be forced to kill someone

I have a good feeling about this game
but it could be gas.

The Mariners needed last night's win like the stock market needs to not crash.

by Gomez on Jul 7, 2007 8:50 AM PDT reply actions

My favorite part of last night's game
(besides Beltre collecting 7,000 extra base hits) was when the A's color man said, and I quote, "Vidro runs... decently."

by Slozbury Stouvre on Jul 7, 2007 9:26 AM PDT reply actions

Rich Harden at 70 pitches
Should be good for five innings, six tops.  Took 94 pitches to get through seven innings of the M's lineup last time, and that was WITH Batista getting lit up for eight runs.  Think the A's light up Felix like that?

And you saw how the game ran away from them as soon as they brought in the bullpen.  Too many of their relievers are out of action to make that thing a strength.

by ThundaPC on Jul 7, 2007 9:52 AM PDT reply actions

I'm going to the game today!
Finally something good about being an M's fan in the Bay Area. Should be fun

anybody think Broussard looks like the assistant football coach in 'Dazed and Confused"?  I can't find a picture, but the white man fro and long sideburns are a spitting image.

the actor's name is rick moser.  Here is a picture of him (not from the movie where he looks like Ben, obviously).

first inning pitch analysis - (incomplete)
Batter 1:
93  5" brk 9" pfx
94  5"  11"
88  7" 1"
95  6" 10"
82  10" 4"

Batter 2:
92 6" brk 10" pfx

Batter 3:
90 6" 11"
85 8" 9"
93 5" 12"
91 6" 10"
91 5" 13"

seems to me to be very different from his Bad Felix - 'throw a ton of fastballs' strategy.
thoughts?

his gronudball/flyball ratio has been insane all year, this is probably some regression to the mean with the GB/FB.

I don't think we should be too worried, but it is odd.

This is the second game recently where we've scored runs early and then completely shut down the offense...yes, we have a 4-0 lead and all, but getting dominated by Lenny DiNardo doesn't make me happy

Good to see the M's cruising along.  I surprised that Felix has managed his effort today despite only a couple strikeouts.  Is he getting groundballs or is the cavern helping him out?

great pitching
he's mixed it up and pitched into lots of ground balls.  there has also been a fair number of pop ups -- but none that were helped by the cavernous park IMO.
