Game's on the CW today.

Today's 4:07 PM PST start will be broadcast live on the CW network so FSN can televise poker until the cows come home. That's right: The same people playing the same game for five hours.

In other news, still no new microwave but I am not attempting any popcorn cookery by means of the oven. Not that desperate.

In more news: 300 characters!

Gotta try
making popcorn in bacon grease. Sounds like it would kill ya instantly but well worth the treat.

Why go to all that work?
Just use some Bacon Salt.  I'm thinking of using it on my morning corn flakes.

Mmmmm....Bacon Salt.
I am going secretly going to add bacon salt to my wife's next vegetarian dish.

In theory...
You could take Vidro's sweat, let it evaporate, and still end up with bacon salt.

re: Poker on TV
I don't get it either, but I find that whenever I come across is on TV I do have to willfully force myself to change the channel lest I end up sitting there watching it for hours. It's pointless I know. I probably know that more than most since I actually made my living off poker for a few years and I can tell just how warped what they show on TV is compared to the real thing (but hey, that warped version has created more fish than anyone ever imagined so yay for easy money!), but I cannot help myself.

I'm also the same way with golf. I imagine any sport that you used to play will grab your attention like that. I have no problem switching off bowling.

Glad to see that
I'm not the only one that gets sucked in by TV poker. I'll usually put it on during a commercial and forget to put the channel back.

I don't watch poker on TV
but I can definitely understand why people would.  The one I'll never get is ESPN's recent coverage of a Rock Paper Scissors tournament.  I know, it's ESPN and what do I expect, but still.

Didn't watch it...
...but man, the reaction I got out of my son, when I 'cheated' and threw down my index finger and said "lightsaber!"  I wonder what people would've done with something as random as that...

At some point...
...here soon, they'll televise two drips of water running down the wall, run big, annoyingly-soundtracked SportsCenter features on the "Ultimate Drip", and then spend a week deciding which drip is the most Now.

And then Joe Morgan will talk about how drips of water were better in his day because they just dripped, and didn't think so much about it.

I watched that.
Some of the funniest and most surreal commentary I've ever heard:

"I think he misplayed the Leshrac card there, Tony, I would have waited, maybe played a Tundra card or a Breeding Pit."

"Yes, Mike, and, oh, an Icy Manipulator clears the board."

"A costly, costly mistake for Jason 'Warlock' Waltham."

An Icy Manipulator can't clear the board
I'm disappointed in myself for feeling the need to point that out.

It is warped
It's not like other sports where they show every moment of the contest.  When they show poker, they're showing about one minute for every actual hour of the tournament, and so you're seeing a lot of hands out of context.  Did a bluff raise on that hand work because the guy who raised had played tight for the previous hour?  Is the guy who folded his pocket jacks to a bluff folding because the other guy showed down a series of winning hands?  I mean, you do half the shit in a vacuum that you see on TV and you'll go broke in a hurry.

by Gomez on Jul 20, 2007 2:31 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

exactly
and since poker on TV taught millions of people how to play, I helped finance my way through college. I guess I owe ESPN for that. And for the job they gave me. But whatever, the shit they turned sportscenter and BBTN into make up for all the good they've done me.

ESPN2
was running a show about buying cars at auction or something at like 4 in the morning the other night. I didn't get the gist of the show since I was immediately changing the channel.

I watch people play cards on tv for a living.
So watching poker on tv when I get home is just about the last thing I want to do.
These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

About Saturday's Game...
It is possibly available through the CBC, if you have cable in the Puget Sound area.  If you live in Canada, you'll definitely get it on CBC.

Its Not FSN's Game
if its moved to the CW its because of KSTW not being able to air it for some reason.  I am going to be getting the game on FSN as I do all games that are supposed to be on KSTW.

by MfaninAlaska on Jul 20, 2007 3:42 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

uggh
I should know that KSTW is the CW down there.  Never mind... anyways... the games are decided before hand who will broadcast them.

by MfaninAlaska on Jul 20, 2007 3:43 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And if you're outside the Seattle area...
...all the games show up on FSN anyway, with rare exceptions (like here in pdx, if there's a blazer game on FSN, they'll put the M's on another channel).

I still don't understand
why I get the Mariners games on FSN, but the Sonics don't come on, we get a different feed of FSN that doesn't carry them... or the Trailblazers.

Not that I watch the NBA anyways.
