July 16 - LL Nights of London

In case you missed the first LL Night and the Revenge of LL Night, guess what?  This coming Monday (July 16th) is another fabulous BECU night, complete with cheap $10 upper deck seats and another attempt to get a whole bunch of LL people to take advantage of said cheap seats and get together for another in-person game thread!

Of course, rather than Felix as it's been the last two times, this time we should be getting whoever the #5 is at that point.  But hey, it's okay, since we'll be playing the Orioles.  And it's all about hanging out and being silly with other LL folks, anyway...

I think we had a great location last time, so how about we try for Section 340, Row 14 again?

What this actually means is -- get a ticket somewhere in View Reserved, preferably near section 340, but then basically just come up and hang out with us. If it's anything like the last game was, we'll just have a big section to ourselves where we can scream things like "PUTZ WOOOO" at the top of our lungs and nobody will care.

This is going to be my last big LL Night before I move away from Seattle on July 30th, so I hope to see some people there!

Arse!
And here was me getting misled by the title expecting some kind of international meet-up...

I'll be there in spirit... :o(

oh, my bad.
I came up with the subtitle because Graham's going to show up and I couldn't think of anything else clever.  If you think it's misleading, I'll change it...

by Deanna on Jul 10, 2007 9:50 AM PDT up reply actions

Noooo
Don't change it. I was just being thick :o)

Still, London next time, right?

...someone doesn't read Marinerds :)
I'm moving to Japan in a few weeks.  I leave Seattle on July 30 (to go to Vancouver BC for a few days of training, then I leave the continent on August 3rd).

by Deanna on Jul 10, 2007 9:53 AM PDT up reply actions

Awesome
My best friend is moving to Kyoto in September to do something similar. Have fun!

I hope you'll still post around here
I really appreciate your humor and general awesomeness.

Please exercise your homesickness on LL posts whenever you possibly can.

Aw, lame. I'd be there, but I have to be in Cheney that day.

by Katal LM on Jul 10, 2007 7:47 AM PDT reply actions

I'll probably be there.
I usually work mornings on Monday, and if that stays the same, I'll be there.

by BrettJMiller on Jul 10, 2007 11:10 AM PDT reply actions

I will do my best
but am not sure if I can make this one. So I guess I fall into "I mean Thompson" category.

by jtopps on Jul 10, 2007 12:24 PM PDT reply actions

I'll be there
we need to all come up with clever rally fries signs.

by Matthew on Jul 10, 2007 4:12 PM PDT reply actions

Hows this?
Lookout Tigers rally fries are
Landing here

by Robert on Jul 10, 2007 6:46 PM PDT up reply actions

thats to clever
I don't think anyone else will get it

Unless your standing at Lookout Landing

Shop smart......Shop s-mart...... YOU GOT THAT!!!!

by Scruffy Lefty on Jul 11, 2007 7:52 AM PDT up reply actions

hmm
except it'll be the Orioles :)

I may or may not make a rally fries sign.  What exactly is it supposed to say on it?  Just something like "Hey Blowers!  Send me fries and the Mariners will win"?

by Deanna on Jul 14, 2007 11:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Even better...
Just for you:

"Last Game Before I Move to Japan. Need Fries For My Journey!"

Or

"Season Ticket Holder Since XXXX.  Last Game Tonight - Moving to Japan"

Or

"Ich Brauche Pomme Frittes!"  (German for "I Need French Fries!") -- since he was born in Germany and all...

Fry ME, Blow!!!

by PositivePaul on Jul 15, 2007 12:05 AM PDT up reply actions

hey, hmm
I do like the second one, BUT it's not my last game -- just my last LL Night -- since I leave Seattle on July 29th, I was planning to definitely go to Stitch'n'Pitch on the 26th.  and I still have a ticket to the game on the 28th but don't know if I'll go or not, depends on how good a job I do of getting rid of stuff and packing and all by then.

Plus I need to get to Tacoma and Everett for games sometime before I leave too.  Argh.

But I definitely like the idea of "Season ticket holder since 2004, moving away, need fries for my journey"... except that's sort of a lot of text to write.  Hmm.

by Deanna on Jul 15, 2007 12:09 AM PDT up reply actions

I live in NJ
so I think you mean Thompson.

by PShwa on Jul 10, 2007 6:22 PM PDT reply actions

I hate the 1:30AM bedtimes and waking up at 5:30 the next morning.

by Faux on Jul 11, 2007 5:29 AM PDT up reply actions

So with the AJ news and all
anyone interested in going to Thursday's game?

Felix, Adam Jones and newly re-signed Ichiro.

by Matthew on Jul 10, 2007 9:57 PM PDT reply actions

Hmm
I WILL be back in town Wednesday night...

by Gomez on Jul 10, 2007 11:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I will be at Thursday's game
in my usual seat in section 143... or somewhere nearby, depending on whether one of my college friends joins me.  You are all welcome to try to join me as well :)  Not sure how much of BP I'll get there for this time, but I'll definitely be shooting photos of Andrew Miller warming up.

sigh... I'm going to Saturday's game too, which means I miss Bonderman and Verlander on Friday and Sunday :(

by Deanna on Jul 10, 2007 11:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I gave up my Ozzfest tickets to go Thursday
And that was even before I heard about the Felix/USSM news. Couple that with todays news and I am absolutely pumped to go. A meet up is a must.

by Robert on Jul 10, 2007 11:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, I decided to go
but haven't bought a ticket yet

by Matthew on Jul 11, 2007 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

I was totally thinking that.
I barely saw anything of the All-Star game, but I tuned back in and saw Putz on the mound and was like "goddamnit.  Jose Lopez makes that play."

by Deanna on Jul 10, 2007 11:13 PM PDT up reply actions

BTW, if we are going on the 16th
should we start buying tickets for that section?

by Matthew on Jul 11, 2007 12:09 PM PDT reply actions

yeah
but again, I'm not too worried about it filling up -- a Monday night against the Orioles and all, which is why it's a BECU night in the first place.  I'm going to try to get my ticket for Monday when I'm at the park on Thursday.

by Deanna on Jul 11, 2007 12:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I've got a question for you folks.
I'm visiting from Portland with some friends later this month, and we're planning on catching the Oakland series on the 27th-29th. Should we get the tickets ahead of time, or is it safe to wait until we get there? Any other advice would be helpful, as well, since I haven't been to Safeco before.

by PetRock on Jul 11, 2007 1:40 PM PDT reply actions

Check the M's site
Summer weekend series tend to sell out or come close to selling out.  You can get a pretty good idea of ticket availability by checking the M's/Ticketmaster website.  If tickets in the price range you want are only coming up in the section farthest from homeplate, those seats are about to sell out.  If the only tickets that come up at all are the upperdeck seats in the outfield, the game is close to selling out.  The box/field/cheap(LF and CF bleacher) seats sell out first; view reserved (upperdeck) near the outfield last.

Derek at USSMariner did a good piece on buying tickets that is linked on the home page.

I'm in
Like I'd really miss Deanna's last LL night.

by etowncoug on Jul 14, 2007 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

Hmmm.
I've got a meeting until three, so I should be able to leave Oly by 4-4:15.  In solid traffic, that should get me there in time for the game.

Wow.  My wife must really love me.  Not only did she give me the go-ahead to buy a Wii this afternoon, but she also seemed OK for me to head up on Monday.

Count me as an 85% yes.

Wii=Amazing.
How are you liking it so far?  Might I also suggest picking up Madden for it.  Even if you're not a sports gamer, it's awesome.

by BrettJMiller on Jul 14, 2007 11:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Heh.
I think I tore my labrum trying to break 100mph on the Wii Sports baseball game.  Hit 96, and an 90+ on a curve ;-)

I can't hit worth a darn.  But it's plugged into the WiFi, so I can't wait to download some games.  Mario Kart is definitely the first on the list (I picked up a GC controller).

Haven't bought any other games, except WiiPlay (to get the 2nd controller).  It was totally a "hey, I can't believe a store in town actually has them in stock" sort of splurge purchase.

Definitely will take suggestions on non-violent games that my 5-year-old can play.  He LOVES Wii Golf...

Fry ME, Blow!!!

by PositivePaul on Jul 15, 2007 12:10 AM PDT up reply actions

I played them all in Vegas
I was undefeated in Wii Boxing, and wasn't too bad in Tennis and Bowling, but trying to get to par on the 9 hole Wii golf course was vexing.  I couldn't get any closer than +2.

On baseball, I can dial it up to 94, and was a master at mixing up the curve, changeup and splitter.  And once I got the swing timing down, I wasn't too bad at hitting the ball either.

WarioWare Smooth Moves was one game my brother had that was pretty fun, though it can get pretty hard, as you have to master about 12 different grips and perform basic tasks super quick.

by Gomez on Jul 15, 2007 12:30 AM PDT up reply actions

I second Gomez on Wario Ware
My parents and I play that all the time.

Also, I can hit too.  I hit two walkoff homers in the span of thirty minutes off my friend Chad.  I even managed to take a walk!  Wonderful.

by BrettJMiller on Jul 15, 2007 12:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Thats funny
I hated Wii Golf so much to the point that I might not pick up Mario Golf and thats a game I never miss a version of.

You can't go wrong with Mario Party 8. While I heard that its not as good as its predecessors, I haven't ever had a bad time playing that series regardless of my age. My GF loves the game so you might even be able to get your wife in on the action. Super Mario Galaxy is coming out in December and it seems that it will be an all-time great.

Avoid the new Super Money Ball, they changed the game and now its terrible. Biggest video game disappointment in the last 5 years.

by Robert on Jul 15, 2007 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

Wii Golf is tough
I hate when sometimes you rear back to drive your 1st shot, and your character just swings, a pussy swing no less that goes about 80 yards.  And then the margin of error on your approach shots is so small, like if you flick your wrists just a TAD too much, your shot flies past the green or hooks into the rough.

I dunno, I guess golf is like that in real life, so props to Nintendo for that, but for a video game, it's pretty hard.  On other golf games, I can eventually shoot under par with practice, but it was impossible on Wii's 9-holer even when I was focused.  You'd hit a couple birdies and get to par or under par, and then you'd miss a fairway here, miss a putt there, and suddenly you double bogey.

the
news that they screwed up monkey ball pains me deeply

Wii Games
We just got Big Brain Academy and it is quite addictive.  My all-time favorite though is Zelda, and the Wii version is amazing.  I downloaded Donkey Kong Country and have been playing that a bit.

by Man From Nantucket on Jul 15, 2007 2:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Got my ticket.
Did it online, so it's in 337.  Close enough, against the Orioles on a Monday on a BECU family night, whatever.

i'm there
as long as i can get off an hour earlier. shouldnt be a problem

Ticket Bought.
Ugh.  None left for Row 14, so I just snagged one for Row 10.  Looks like it's going to be pretty crowded, so I'm hoping there's a row we can all move to or something.
Fry ME, Blow!!!

by PositivePaul on Jul 15, 2007 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

Uh, shit
There were really none left for Row 14?

Stupid Mariners having to go and win a lot so people actually go to the games.  Goddamnit.  Do we want to try to move back a few rows, or over a section or two, or something?  I'm inclined to just say back a few rows, but I have no idea how packed the section is going to be.  ARGH.

by Deanna on Jul 15, 2007 9:12 PM PDT reply actions

I reckon I'll be there by 6-ish
Shall we literally meet up at the Lookout Landing?

If you see anyone that looks like any of the people in any of these pix, then (other than Felix, of course), they're probably LookoutLanding-ites.

I'll be the Blanton-esque dude with the big camera bag slung over his shoulder.

Fry ME, Blow!!!

by PositivePaul on Jul 15, 2007 10:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll be there
I will be in my Aquasox t-shirt.

I was tempted to wear my Rochester Red-Wings jersey, but since Baltimore screwed that team over for years, I didn't want to be mistaken for an O's fan.

Ultimate game :-(
have fun everyone!
In addition to going 18-for-18 in save opportunities, Putz is trying to bring a sense of unity and joyfulness in the Seattle clubhouse.

I shall be there, I'll get my ticket at the door.

by tworsandtwols on Jul 16, 2007 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm hoping to come up with some sort of sign
Because I'm really worried that we won't all be able to gather at 340/14.

Current best idea I had is "AH-OOOOOOO, RAuLLY FRIES OF LONDON"

by Deanna on Jul 16, 2007 2:30 PM PDT reply actions

I made a Funk Blast sign
when I went to Cleveland... and then it kept snowing and I couldn't use it and I had to throw it out.

I was sad.

by tworsandtwols on Jul 16, 2007 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

I'll be there in a blank Ms
away jersey and probably the only one actually sitting in 340/14 (seat 4).

I also plan on being there early.

by Matthew on Jul 16, 2007 2:58 PM PDT reply actions

I did not forget
I am so totally there unless I get hit by a bus or something.

by Gomez on Jul 16, 2007 3:23 PM PDT reply actions

Oh, btw, does anyone want any baseball books?
I have a bunch that are going into my "sell to Half Price Books" stack, should I bring them to the game tonight and give them to some of you guys instead?

by Deanna on Jul 16, 2007 3:37 PM PDT reply actions

YES, Please...
If you happen to have a copy of Jim Bouton's book, especially.  Never read it, and HPB never seems to have it when I look there (and I'm too lazy to get it used via Amazon or eBay).  But I'm certainly good for reading baseball books on occasion.

And, maybe someone's kind enough to sell some for ya on eBay and channel some funds your direction, since you're running out of time.  Another idea (since I did that for a friend who moved to Costa Rica and didn't want to just give some pretty decent, hard-to-find books, that were very sellable, away.)

by PositivePaul on Jul 16, 2007 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions

sadly, no
I think my copy of Ball Four is currently on semi-indefinite loan to a friend in CA (actually, my friend Jeff, who you met the night you guys convinced me to buy the Johjima jersey), who is notoriously bad at giving my books back.

But I was thinking some stuff like Moneyball, Men At Work, the Great Baseball Roadtrip, Iron Horse, Sidd Finch, and a few others where it seems silly to have them sit in storage for several years and I'm not worried about being able to get a new copy down the line later.

by Deanna on Jul 16, 2007 4:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd offer my copy of Ball Four
but I don't recall if my almost-girlfriend still has it or not.
