If you look around the table and you can't tell who the sucker is, and then you see Bill Bavasi, it's him.

Nothing in particular.
I was just browsing words and stumbled across this particular example sentence.

I didn't realize that sentence was in the link.  I thought you found that word online and then made up that Yankee sentence.

My bad.

Melky Cabrera?
Wha?

And what's with Damon playing first?

by Colby In Boston on Jun 3, 2007 8:18 PM PDT reply actions

who would that be?
Bernie 'thanks but no thanks' williams?
Johnny '1B' Damon?
Oh, right, its Melky Cabrera. I may have already mentioned this, but in my native language Melky means small and annoying. Like pesky, or pepsi, if pepsi were an adjective.

I love you too, Pepsi.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

I'd guess...
... it's literature referring to DiMaggio, with Mantle being another possibility.

I had a semi-vested interest in tonight's game
I have Jeter, Posada, Youkilis, and Pap starting on fantasy teams.  This was the first time I watched a Red Sox-Yankees game with any sort of interest in quite some time (I didn't even watch the 2004 ALCS).

Tough to be a baseball fan
and NOT watch the ALCS, I would think...

by bpdawg24 on Jun 4, 2007 4:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Agreed
That was a hell of a series.

by phil333 on Jun 4, 2007 8:56 AM PDT up reply actions

The best result of the 2004 ALCS
was all the funky new parapernala Red Sox fans got to wear.  My personal favourite (which I saw in Toronto in 2006):

CHOKE - The official soft drink of the New York Yankees

Eh
I consider myself a baseball fan but I have a hard time watching any time Boston and New York play. It is more painful to me than reality TV.

by bluemax on Jun 4, 2007 9:29 AM PDT up reply actions

I will agree that
the Sox/Yanks rivalry has become borderline obscene with the amount of national TV coverage and otherwise, but I still think it's ridiculous to boycott the American League Championship Series.  At the very least, you must tune in for Game 7 at the risk of having your baseball fandom abolished.

Fall 2004 was a tough time in my life
for a variety of reasons.  In fact, much of 2004 was, and even spilled over from late 2003.  I hardly watched any baseball that year.  Looking back, it's somewhat shocking, but realizing the context of things, between a shitty job situation, family problems, moving to Seattle... I kinda understand.

I barely had any time to watch the M's during the disaster season, which might have been for the best, but was not for wont of contention.
