pervasive among some fans. I was arguing with a Dodger fan about how I think Nomar as the Dodgers third base offense solution doesn't really make much sense and he came up with this response:
"Sometimes there's more to decisions than relying on OPS and stuff like that. Betemit has is a weak fielder with great power and a decent eye.. but there's just nothing there beyond that. He reminds me a lot of Adam Dunn, but not as productive. While it's nice that he offers a HR threat, his poor hitting other than that has killed too many drives. He's great as a pinch hitter because you never know when he'll go deep, and if he K's there it's not quite as big of a deal much of the time."
My rebuttal:
Nomar's OPS+ 72
Betemits' OPS+ 102
Dunn's OPS+ 134
Betemit sucks, but he's been a bigger contributor at the plate than Nomar, and Adum Dunn for all his supposed suckiness is twice the player Nomar is currently.
Sigh.
