FUCK JOSE VIDRO!

So, this AM I am perusing the Rainiers' box score like I do almost every morning and it dawned on me that team has as sick of 3-4-5 hitters as there are on Earth right now.

While Jones is something like 0 for his last 10 or 11, Jeff Clement and and WLAD! (<--- which I started by the way) are now beating the living shit out of the baseball.

Jeff Clement appears to have taken Dave @ USSM's comments personally about him being nothing more than a role player.

Many of us have not really taken WLAD! seriously as a prospect, but I think that it has become time for us to give the guy some props. He's 22 years old and putting it all together in AAA. If someone can make a valid argument as to why he's not the real deal, I'd love to hear it.

All three of these guys are going to hit 30 bombs this year if left in AAA. This is the lines that these guys are putting up:

Adam Jones
Overall: .316/.389/.589
At Cheney: .295/.360/.521
BB/K: 27/68

WLAD!
Overall: .322/.402/.568
At Cheney: .328/.418/.530
BB/K: 37/57

Jeff Clement - Let's remember that he got off to an awful start.
Overall: .276/.363/.519
At Cheney: .255/.342/.415
vs. LHP (65 AB): .354/.440/.738
BB/K: 29/46 <--- Yeah!

These guys are posting OPS's of .979, .970, and .882 respectively. In the meantime, we have our fat turd of a DH tied up for the next 2 years. This is a travesty of epic proportions.

Again I say: FUCK JOSE VIDRO!

Wlad
Wow.  I never realized that his numbers at Cheney were better than Jones'.

Well done, sir.

And Clement vs. LHPs???   Nice.

Honestly I'm excited about all three of them.
Finding somewhere for them to play is the hard part.

Jones -> LF (Ibanez -> DH) -> CF if Ichiro leaves
Clement -> Backup at some point?(We don't keep Burke?)
WLAD! -> LF after Ichiro possible leaves

Just dump Sexson
Clement can outhit him right now and is left-handed.
What? No marshmallows?!

Okay, I didn't realize Clement was hitting that
well. I thought he was a massive letdown so far this year. But what about his defense? I'm still fuzzy on his future as a catcher.

Don't forget
about Carlos Triunfel .309/.342/.388, who-unless Betancourt  leaves-will be moved to another position. Our farm system is actually pretty darn good.

Yeah, but what is he...17?
We have time to see what happens.

Well,
at 17, I really doubt he'll get worse. He'll probably only get better.

I didn't say anything would happen to him
I just meant we have time to just let him go out and play and see what happens to our roster over the next few years.

by PShwa on Jun 23, 2007 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's hurt
Plus are you really advocating putting him the majors right now? At 17?

by Trent on Jun 23, 2007 11:21 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, I'm saying
if he gets moved to the outfield like Jones did and continued or got better (like he will), in a few years we could an outfield of Him/Jones/Wlad.

Or maybe
we could leave him at the position of more value, SS, and he could replace our mightily struggling defensive wizz.  I'm not giving up on Yuni just yet, of course, but it doesn't hurt to have another SS in the wings.

by jimmimoose1 on Jun 23, 2007 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought consensus was
He'd end up playing 2B?

by Graham on Jun 23, 2007 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why would
we move him to 2nd? Lopez has already established himself there and we all know he's horrible at third and neither one of those guys have the power to play third.

Who cares about Triunfel....
This diary has nothing to do with him.

by PLU Tim on Jun 23, 2007 11:46 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

we're prospect talking
obviously jones, wlad, and clement are a lot closer to the bigs.  i get more and more excited for clement's lefty power/patience combo every day.

but triunfel is totally worthy of discussion!

This diary has to do with explicit lyrics, MUTHAFUCKAZ!!!!

by Gomez on Jun 23, 2007 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

that's possible
but it's pretty hard to say for certain with a 17-year old kid just making his stateside debut.  if he has to be moved to second or the outfield, sure, by all means, no worries.  but let him at least try at SS for a while first, since there's so much more value there than anywhere else.

by jimmimoose1 on Jun 23, 2007 11:46 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's ok at SS now
But he's a big kid and will more than likely grow out of the position. I'm more than happy to see him playing there while he still can, though.

by Graham on Jun 23, 2007 11:50 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

out of curiosity
what did people say when arod was first drafted?  he was a big kid, was there suspicion that he'd have to move off of short to make the bigs, or did his athleticism show through even then?

by jimmimoose1 on Jun 23, 2007 11:54 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno...
I heard that after he bulks up as expected, third base or right field are more likely. I'd be surprised if he sticks in the middle infield, especially at short. But for the meantime, let's just let him play short until he outgrows the position. No sense to be in a hurry about moving him out. Hell, Adam Jones played short until he was only one stop away from the bigs.
Felix, you magnificent bastard.

BTW NOW AND 2008
Possible Seattle Ms Lineup:
C Kenji Johjima
1B Richie Sexson
2B Jose Lopez
SS Yuniesky Betancourt
3B Adrian Beltre
LF Adam Jones
CF Ichiro!
RF Wladimir Balentien
DH Raul Ibanez

BC: Jamie Burke
BMINF: Bloomquist
BCOIF: Broussard
BOF: Jeremy Reed

Freed up Assets and '08 salary:
Jose Vidro ($6M)
Jose Guillen ($9M opt)
Jason Ellison ($500K)

Other options:
Call Clement up, have him play 1B, ship Sexson out for w/e
Put Broussard at 1B, ship Sexson out for w/e

getting rid of Sexson means much easier to afford Ichiro. Sign Ichiro now please.

by Matthew on Jun 23, 2007 1:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Two things
  • Ichiro and agent have made it clear they're not discussing the contract until after the season.  If the team could re-sign him right now, they would.
  • No one is taking Richie's contract.  His value isn't nearly worth the hit.
The rest of this I can see.  I know there's been extensive discussion about the RHBs in Safeco thing, but with Guillen regressing, suddenly, giving WLAD his shot in 2008 doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Clement, for his 20-25 HR power and patience, would not make a strong 1B/DH bat, even if he could semalessly step in at 1B.  He could be a capable bat, but not a strong option above replacement level.  He'd be a strong C bat, though.

Sadly, despite his performance, I'm not sure bringing Burke back makes as much sense as giving Clement his shot working behind Joh and spelling the 1B/RF corners in 2008.  The org's going to want to see if Clement's the real deal next year.

re:
  1. I know. It wasn't a serious call to action, just a plea.
  2. I know. That's why I listed it under other options, more of a see what you can do, but don't expect shit department. And really, for Sexson, I was thinking more along the lines of offseason when you can pick up some of his 08 salary and move him so that A) he's regressed somewhat the rest of '07 and B) is only on the hook for one more season. I could see some team (Yanks?) biting on that for marginal prospects in return.
  3. If Guillen is traded I'd rather see Wlad called up than AJ right now. The reason is that Wlad is out of options at the end of this year and you gotta give him enough PT in the bigs to know what you're dealing with and whether you should put him on the team in '08 or trade him. I am really afraid of a Cruceta repeat with Wlad though. REALLY afriad.
  4. I think Jeff's bat could be better than you say at DH/1B. Not right away of course though, which may be what you're referring to. It was more of an idea to shed salary (you'd have Guillen, Vidro, Weaver and Sexson (total: $34M) off the books with little in the ways of increases from the remaining players)
  5. Probably true, but in that case, you can still keep Burke and just have Clement play the Broussard role with more PT. But it's a fair suggestion.
To clarify, I'm not being overly serious here, just bantering around some idea of what we could get from our Rainiers.

Sexson is having a real bad season
and isn't worth the money he's getting.  With that said, he's a better player than how he's playing right now.  His BABIP is soooo low.  He is at 210 and the next lowest qualified 1B is Delgado at 255.  Sexson has traditionally always been near about 300.  If this regressed back near his traditional average he'd be fine and probably be close to his normal 270/350/500.  Do many of you think he's actually done because if he is then we should just cut him because he's worthless right now.

by Edgar for Pres on Jun 23, 2007 3:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

well his LD and FB rates
are slipping so a loss of AVG and SLG is to be expected, but no, I don't think he's this bad offensively. We shouldn't cut him, but I would still be seeing what/if anything I could get for him.

by Matthew on Jun 23, 2007 3:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd have to imagine that the Yankees would
be willing to take on his contract, if we weren't to expect much back in return.
