I don't know if anyone here cares about the Sonics at all, but I personally want them to stay. Here is the response I received regarding my email to the Governor:
Thank you for contacting Governor Gregoire about the Seattle Sonics remaining in Washington. She appreciates hearing your thoughts.
The Governor is disappointed that the ownership of the Sonics and Storm is no longer local, but she understands that this was a very difficult business decision. The Governor is a supporter of the Sonics and Storm and hopes they remain in the region, if it is feasible. She is encouraged that the new owners have also expressed a desire to stay in the state. Since the sale, the new owners have met with state and local officials, and Governor Gregoire has had several good conversations with the Sonics' Managing Partner, Clay Bennett.
During this year's legislative session, a proposal was introduced to allow King County the option of extending certain taxes to fund construction of an event center. This proposal did not pass, and therefore there is no bill for the Governor to act on this session. Should a proposed event center come before Governor Gregoire for consideration next year, she will consider your position and seek input from affected citizens and community leaders.
Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
