I think this is a good time to say..Thank You Bill Bavasi, you've been given a lot of crap this season (a lot of it from me!), but you've put a team on the field that is 34-26 and on pace for 92 wins.  I still don't like a lot of your moves (Vidro, Snelling, Ho) but I think your a lot better than a lot of the non-knowledgeable fans give you credit for.

Am I a big Bavasi fan??...No, but I truly believe he has done a lot of good for this organization.  If he was just a tad better at evaluating Major League talent he would be a darn good GM.

Hmm...looking closer at Raul...
his contact seems the same:

.299/.350/.449 this year compared to .289/.353/.516 last year.

Contact is the same, Walk rate is about the same (on pace for around 60 like last year) and the doubles seem to be right in line or above pace from last year, triples as well.  The homers is the only change from last year, so that's the only test, and with the way Raul is driving the ball now, it looks like he'll get back to himself.  I hadn't realized how many 2B's and 3B's and how often he's been getting on base with his homer draught.  Sure he's been underperforming, but has hasn't been a COMPLETE black hole.  Maybe a grey hole.  I don't know what the point of this post is or how to end it, so I just will. :o

Hmm..it's rosterbation but...
After today's game I've decided we need Mark Buehrle, and NOW.  This team is a quality SP and maybe a relief arm away from being the favorites to win the division.

etowncoug and I were talking, and got around to the fact that Scott Linebrink is available for offensive help too.  Wlad for Linebrink, anyone?  Then you can send a Clement/Morse/Butler/Cash package to CWS for Mark Buehrle.

I know ERA is a flawed statistic, but you can reasonably expect a 3.50 from Felix, 4.00 from Buehrle, 4.30 from Washburn, 4.50 from Batista, and 4.80 from Baek.  Plus, replacing Jason Davis with a 2.50, 1K per inning reliever in Linebrink makes us immediate favorites.  This also allows you to keep Adam Jones.  Get it done, Bavasi.

by BrettJMiller on Jun 11, 2007 10:36 PM PDT reply actions

I'd rather nix the Linebrink deal
and hope Lowe is the answer for the RP.

I like Buehrle the idea, I don't like Buehrle the future free agent. I wouldn't give them Clement for him unless we got a window to get an extension signed and did.

by Matthew on Jun 11, 2007 10:54 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think we really need another reliever.
The bullpen's going to be getting a lot of work, but there's enough depth between Seattle and Tacoma to keep people fresh, especially if Mark Lowe comes back looking anywhere close to how he looked last summer. Adding a starter should far and away be the front office's primary objective.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 11, 2007 10:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I like the idea
And I wouldn't be completely against that, but I'd like to take a look at Matt Belisle before handing over so much talent for Buehrle.

Take a look at their periphials...

MBu -- 6.5 K/G, 2.0 BB/G, 3.25 K/BB, 1.21 G/F
MBe -- 6.1 K/B, 1.8 BB/G, 3.44 K/BB, 1.13 G/F

Very, very similar, and although Buehrle's should be taken more seriously because of the track record and his being in the AL -- and him being a lefty at our park is certainly a plus -- but Belisle makes much less money, is under club control much longer, and probably takes less talent to acquire.

On top of that, the Reds are in even more of a rut right now, so they might be more willing to throw in the towel for this season.

Felix, you magnificent bastard.

by Double06 on Jun 11, 2007 11:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Also, if Milwaukee gets tired of Dave Bush
I wouldn't mind trying to take a stab at him in the rotation. Good peripherals, but so far for some reason he hasn't done so well in the ERA department.

Pitching in Toronto and Milwaukee didn't help
Somewhat friendly confines for hitters, in divisions with big time sluggers.  Bush would not face as much in the AL West.
