Full credit to a guy most of us here despise - he's done a great job with the pen this year, has used his reserves properly, and generally given us not much to complain about (when we're relegated to bitching about lineup spots being silly rather than terrible pitchers blowing ballgames, we're doing alright).
I have a theory. Mike Hargrove's not an idiot. He's just an addict. The allure of being in complete control of a baseball game's destiny is too much for him - when he deploys Julio Mateo he is shaping the course of the game, moving it to new grounds. The fact that these hitherto unexplored territories are firmly entrenched in Mariner-suckland means nothing compared to the power which courses through that phone.
It's a sad, sad addiction that's happened to one of the nicest ex-goatees in the game. How very fortunate, that his favourite toy has been taken away from him, for now he has no way of getting his fix of costing us games and is forced to actually manage.
All in all, this means when Weaver ends up in the pen, we're fucked.
PS: I'm not really sure how serious I'm being.
