Southern California rant

What is wrong with these people? Is there something weird in the water down there? I used to think very highly of the city of San Diego, but their fans' reaction to this series has been Halos Heaven-esque.

When the Mariners have a bad series, we criticize our own team for being so bad that they lost.

When a SoCal baseball fan's team loses a series, he criticizes the opposing team for being so bad that they won. When you go south of the Bay, do you enter some kind of Bizarro World where this makes sense?

P.S.: Still don't think the NL lacks talent? Texas wins a series against the team that leads the NL Central and Kansas City wins a series against a team with a winning record against NL opponents.

We've mocked this rivalry for so long
while the whole time it was gaining intensity under the radar. Now that we've swept the Padres on their own turf, the volcano's finally erupted, and all you can do is try to get out of the way of the verbal hot lava.

Don't wear your Mariners gear outdoors
You might get lynched.

In San Diego?
No. You might get "Duded".

Or maybe get a big ass Adalbertos burrito thrown at you...mmmm...Adal's. Just one more reason I can never go to Taco Hell again.

My parents didn't want to move to Florida, but they turned sixty, and that's the law.

It sure is hard to eat there once you've had
Actual authentic Mexican food. I won't even eat at Azteca anymore.

Adalbertos
More of a fan of Robertos.  Well the good Robertos, not the bad one.

Dude, I love the 'Bell
When I need to clear up that ol' blockage, that is.  I'd rather lay down $3 on some Taco Hell than a bottle of laxatives.  Pretty much the same effect...

What?  TMI??? Sorry...

I don't blame them for being a little pissy.

Sure.
But what I'm saying is that they should be pissed at their OWN TEAM. You know, the team that got outplayed and lost. Watching your team get swept at home and then waxing poetic about how much better they are than the team that swept them is what doesn't make sense.
What do I look like, a guy who's not lazy?

by Rollo Tomasi on Jun 10, 2007 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh I totally agree
I was just making a point that when teams get swept at home, the tend to come up with excuses for why.

I think the Rev might have gotten in touch with Padre fans, the Padre fans have even made stupid comments about the rain, that's got the Rev written all over it.

Suicide...
They should all have done it when Weaver retired the 10th Padre in a row.

That should be the most telling statistic about how not ready for prime time your team is.

Though I have to admit, this Ichiro photoshop is pretty good.

Also, speaking of pictures, don't click on the link that says "this guy" in that same post if your eating something. I never bothered to look at the file name, so I about choked on my sandwhich when it came up.

Line in showbiz. There have been more random, but they were at least funny. That movie was the lowlight of Will Farrell's career.

Ummm... what?
That movie did more for his career than Old School.

Anyone ever see Night at the Roxbury?
As far as him being funny, that was probably his best. Anchorman had its bright spots but it didn't (guy with the grenade) but it was just kind of, meh, for me overall.

I think he's best when he doesn't star. He was awesome in Wedding Crashers.

Felix, you magnificent bastard.

by Double06 on Jun 11, 2007 12:46 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

No
Anchorman was one of the funniest movies in the last 10 years.

by Matthew on Jun 11, 2007 1:28 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely
That movie is hysterical.  Anyone who doesn't find it funny should probably move to San Diego and become a Padres fan.

by Dylan on Jun 11, 2007 6:28 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't really think it was that funny.
Half an hour of content jam packed into 90 minutes. Yippie!

by JI on Jun 11, 2007 9:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can see doubting Anchorman's humor
even as someone who thought the movie was hilarious.

But you actually liked Night at the Roxbury?  What.

by Gomez on Jun 11, 2007 11:37 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I fell asleep during Night at the Roxbury.
Of course, we watched it right after I was on the "Dude" team in a "Dude, Where's My Bar?" drinking game for "Dude, Where's My Car?", so I'm not sure that counts.

We only rented Roxbury because some people showed up right as we were finishing Dude, and they were pissed off that they didn't get to be part of the Bad Movie Night festivities.  So we went to Blockbuster, explained the situation ("We've just watched 'Dude, Where's My Car' and need another godawful movie that people can make up a drinking game for, can you help us?") and the staff deliberated for a few minutes and gave us Roxbury, telling us to drink every time the guys bobbled their heads.

I've been told it worked out really well, but I have no idea, because I wasn't awake for most of it.  I think a combination of the drunk and the dumb put me to sleep fairly quickly.

by Deanna on Jun 11, 2007 11:48 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you drink evertime they bobble their heads,
You might as well just hook up an IV filled with booze! (I was going to make an "On Golden Pond" Audrey Hepburn bobblehead joke here, but I thought it might be in poor taste...   Wait, I just did, didn't I?)
"Got any of that beer that has candy floating in it? You know, Skittlebrau?"
