Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

6/1: Open Game Thread

First Pitch: 7:05pm PDT

Lofton CF Ichiro CF Young SS Vidro DH Teixeira 1B Guillen RF Sosa DH Ibanez LF Diaz RF Sexson 1B Byrd LF Johjima C Kinsler 2B Beltre 3B Laird C Betancourt SS Kata 3B Lopez 2B ---------- ----------

Millwood (2-4, 6.62)        Washburn (5-4, 3.22)

A lot of what we perceive to be bad pitching is actually bad luck. For Kevin Millwood, it's bad pitching. Among 72 AL hurlers with at least 30 innings pitched, Millwood's 5.24 FIP ranks firmly in the bottom quarter, right between Joe Kennedy and Ramon Ortiz. Thank goodness there're only three years and $40.5m left on his contract after this season's up. The Rangers better hope that this is all a factor of his trick hamstring, because otherwise, sweet sweet mercy.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

I don't see anywhere that says he went to the
hospital...  Just says he got a bloody lip. Wasn't much in the way of real punches anyway.

From the ESPN article that CO posted
"Carlos Zambrano and catcher Michael Barrett shoved each other in the dugout, then the pitcher busted his teammate's lip in the clubhouse so badly that Barrett wound up in a hospital."

They went at it in the clubhouse a few minutes after the scuffle in the dugout.  I'd like to see video of that.

Texas...
is currently tied for first with the Royals in the Pedro Alvarez race.

Throw in that KC is young and likely to improve later in the year and Texas is, old, injury-prone, and awful, and they've got to be considered the front-runners at this point.

If the Ms are out of it late this season, it will be time to start thinking about running out every scrub in the lineup against Texas.  More than any other consensus top talent in years, I really don't want to see Alvarez playing for a non-Mariners AL-West team at any point in his career.

Longest hit streak for Mariners
Only 24 games, in club history?

Seems like that is pretty low. Wonder how other clubs stack upto that. A meaningless stat, but nevertheless I'm curious.

In any event, wonder what dance Courage will break out when and if Ichiro breaks it tonight.

by TheMarinator on Jun 1, 2007 6:04 PM PDT reply actions

According to baseball-reference
There are 42 hitting streaks of 30 games or more in baseball history. I didn't go through and determine how many clubs are represented in that, but it seems pretty likely that 24 games is very much on the low end of things.

I just got home from a game, closing in the bottom of the 7th...

2 jamshots to behind 2nd base.

both pop out of my second baseman's glove.

and then just go ahead and leave it up to me to leave a changeup, which is my out pitch, in the guy's wheelhouse for a walkoff two-run shot.

I can't finish watching this game. I'm off to get drunk.

I met the crazy Beltre fan guy
His name is Red, and my buddy and I have some good pics with him which we will post shortly.  We did a brief interview with him and here are the high points:
  1. Fuck Kenny Lofton
  2. He really does love Beltre that much and has since he was just starting out with the Dogers
  3. He's had that sign since opening day, but he tore it last night beating another fan with it
  4. He has a girlfriend (or wife) and they're a cute Beltre loving couple
  5. He had no idea he was famous on the internet, but he knows now.
