There's something so appropriate about Jeff Weaver starting on Cinco de Mayo. At least if he blows, he has an excuse.

LET'S GO MARINERS!!

Nothing

Hopefully they pull him after the first 3 runs. We came back yesterday...why cant we do it again today.

Funny how our offense kicks glute the minute they start taking walks.

Weaver...

I'd say
it's more likely Jeff Weaver hits a home run.

If, by a perfect game you mean
that Weaver will face 27 batters without creating an out, well, maybe...

ok, funniest thing ever
everyone needs to go watch the Yuni double from last night.  Right after Sexson scores he kicks Yuni's bat out of the way, but it's not just a little kick, it looks like he winds up and kicks the crap out of it.  Plus with Sexson being 6'8...it just looks really really funny.

that's the joke
Brett Myers beats women as well. But he can pitch so I would rather have him than Mateo, if you know, there was a Designated Batterer position we absolutely had to fill.

so really
Best case scenario White can go 4, Reitsma 2, Sherrill 1, Putz 1, Morrow 1.

But if White can pitch four innings against the best lineup in baseball, I'm a tomato.

We NEED Weaver to go at least 1 inning.

Not really an issue in the long run, but there's no way we can reinforce the pen for today.

by Graham MacAree on May 5, 2007 12:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Which is why
it doesn't matter so much if White has to go 4.  Hopefully Weaver will be motivated to make a point to Chavez and Hargrove that they shouldn't have tried to change him, and ride that motivation through at least 2 innings.

20 ER?
You've got pretty loose definitions of "serious" and "feasible"

by sammy on May 5, 2007 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm just using what Dave said
"Weaver will be asked to go at least five innings regardless of the score. If he gets hit early on, he won't be pulled."

and running with it!

by Corco on May 5, 2007 12:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually...
The more I think about it, I think (hope) Weaver comes out, feels the fire under his asshole and pitches the game of his life. He's already stated that he knows his career is riding on this game and that he's going to forget everything the M's tried to 'fix' with him mechanics-wise.

So the optimist in me is calling:
6.2 IP  6H 3R 1HR 1BB 4K

Why not stick him at SS
And Yuni at 2B, then move Lopez to either 1B or DH, and in this scenario Sexson is of course traded for anything.  A-Rod's not the SS he once was, but Yuni and Beltre flanking him would hide him pretty well, and Yuni has 50 games in the bigs as a 2B, and if I recall, he was pretty good at it.

by BrettJMiller on May 5, 2007 1:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Should've been a shutout inning.

by Jeff Sullivan on May 5, 2007 1:45 PM PDT reply actions

Going live to San Fran for Bonds AB.
I didn't realize that 744 was the record.

I'm also glad they stuck with the at bat for the entire intentional walk.

Holy fuck I hate FOX.

BS call.
Damn it, if you're going to hit Wang, hit him in the pitching arm!

That replay of the Karstens comebacker is awesome.

by Jeff Sullivan on May 5, 2007 1:50 PM PDT reply actions

The best part
Was that it was on the very first pitch, after they were talking for 10 minutes about how every Yankee pitcher is hurt.

Has anyone mentioned....
That Felix has been pushed back again?

I am starting to have a bad feeling about this injury.

by PLU Tim on May 5, 2007 1:56 PM PDT reply actions

Good news=no pain.
Bad news is that my fears that I felt while I was at that game are coming true with all this pushing back...but better safe than never, right?...right?

by BrettJMiller on May 5, 2007 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Mentioned above.
I'd be more worried if he had pain still.

by bluemax on May 5, 2007 2:00 PM PDT up reply actions

If this wasn't Felix
He would be back already, right?
The poster formerly known as KnightofKingK

by Robert on May 5, 2007 2:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes
But as was mentioned, they're only pushing back because of the rust and they want him to get some work in via simulated games before returning.

by BrettJMiller on May 5, 2007 2:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay
Even with some four-seamers, he's only hit 90 once.

by Jeff Sullivan on May 5, 2007 1:58 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, Tim.
It wouldn't make any sense for Clemens to give the league a few months to sort itself out before choosing the best contender to join.

so...
does Weaver bitch about no run support today??

by MFAN on May 5, 2007 2:02 PM PDT reply actions

God damn it.
This outing has guaranteed Weaver another two or three starts.

by BrettJMiller on May 5, 2007 2:03 PM PDT reply actions

With Felix pushed back
he was probably going to get them anyway.

by Graham MacAree on May 5, 2007 2:03 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah.
People have been saying for a while that the worst possible thing that can happen today is Weaver pitching well. I don't understand why that's true.

by Jeff Sullivan on May 5, 2007 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not worth it...
Take it from a guy who watched him for 3 months. His decent starts only make the pain last longer.

ERA now down to 14.09

Uhhh....when did it become okay for announcers to say that?

by BrettJMiller on May 5, 2007 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

Between innings chat with Hargrove.
FOX: So tell us what Weaver's doing differently today.
Hargrove: Oh, he's doing the same thing he's always done, just some of the balls aren't finding holes anymore.
FOX: So it's regression to the mean.
Hargrove: That's why they call it 'average'.
FOX: Wait, who is this?

Hargrove:
