Snelling to Oakland?

According to Basedball Tonight, Snelling was traded by Washington for Oakland's Langerhans.

They also said Snelling "goes back to Oakland" and made some strange point about East Coast to West Coast and back again, but who knows what's going on.

It'll great to see him playing again in Seattle... too bad its for the wrong team.

Its true
I just got confirmation from an Oakland fan I know. Announced by their Asst GM.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
With all this stress in my life right now, plus a lack of sleep, it was this that made me finally crack up laughing.

Way to go, Doyle

Also FWIW
Piazaa got hurt during tonights A's game and is out 4-6 weeks.

So
does that make them better or worse.

The way I look at it,
It sucks major balls for me as a person. But in reality the Nats fans and front office never really appreciated Doyle.

I know the A's will.

And that makes me happy.

Oakland was his destiny
I can't think of a better player that Beane would want right now that fits his style better.

by Edgar for Pres on May 2, 2007 9:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly!
Let us all hope Snelling prospers like the M's weren't going to allow him to do.

Snelling! Who Cares!
I love how there are so many M's fans that thought it was the end of the world when we traded Snelling for Vidro. And still the first post says "I officially hate life." Come on Vidro is doing great and Snelling had potential but sometimes you have to move on.

Noooo
How about he just write this down and wait for about 6 weeks and see how the two are doing.

Snelling might be the new DH in Oakland.

that?

Well......I guess he would since he's gone to the dark side now...but...uh....well....nevermind.

Why did the Nationals agree to this?

They have 5 outfielders
Snelling was the 5th or 6th outfielder they had on the team.

Don't Tell Me To Go Die!
Who the hell do you think you are. Just saying what I think about the situation. Please tell me why Snelling is better than Vidro. Everyone says he COULD develop into a great hitter if he gets regular playing time and doesn't get hurt. I don't know about you but I'm fine with Vidro as our DH.

than Vidro.

Snelling makes people irrational.
And I think that's going to keep up until either Snelling washes out, or Vidro gets an extra-base hit.

Vidro doing great?
Maxthedrummer:

Yes, it was probably unfair for someone to tell you to go and die, but I'm willing to bet he didn't mean it literally.

But come on, man... you know that Doyle is going to get lots of love on this blog, especially judged against Vidro.

You're fine with Vidro being the DH. Okay, that's cool. You can have the opinion that he's "doing great," but take an honest look:

.315/.351/.393/.744 (Avg/On Base/SLG/OPS) He's got 28 singles, 1 (ONE!!!) double, zero triples, 2 (TWO!!??!!) HR...that's not "great." That's average. And then and then and then... he's doing it for $7.5 million ($6M paid for by your Seattle Mariners).

Sure, Doyle may never become the MLB DH that probably 90% of the people around here would like him to be. But he's an honest, hard-working player who has shown the potential to be solid. He's produced nearly as much as Vidro has this year, in 40 fewer at bats, for a fraction of the money.

THAT'S why people love Doyle, are ambivalent about Vidro, and why you're doing to see all kinds of love for him, and that's why people care about him. Go Doyle.

that I don't really care that much about Snelling anymore. It's like I don't want him to do well so that the Vidro trade looks better.

Because I'm a Grade A asshole, it's fun pissing
a large group of people who are irrationally acting and obsessing over something somewhat trivial.

That being said, down with Snelling. I hope your crippled, AAAA skillset, mendoza line hitting rear drags the A's down with you.

In the NL, you were a curiousity. In the AL West your the enemy. The opposition. One who stands in our way.

Snelling=Chavez=Kendall=Bradley=Blanton=Street=every other Athletic in my mind.

I have to hope for Snelling to fail now. I wanted him to succeed in Washington just to teach Bavasi a lesson.

Not true
I like Matsuzaka and Sizemore and Hafner, etc.  When we play these guys, I hope that We beat Dice-K 1-0 (minmal damage to him, win for us ), or we beat the Indians 10-9

by LantermanC on May 3, 2007 7:12 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Matsuzaka is cool and all
but when we play him, I hope we crush him 83-0.  Then he can go back to making the rest of the league look foolish.

Of course, if he is on your fantasy team, then yeah, 1-0.

by InSpokane on May 3, 2007 10:07 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also, for those of you still obsessing over him
You do realize that him being an Athletic automatically increases his chance of injury. I'm putting down June 17th as the day he hits the DL.
No sir, I don't like it. ~Mr.Horse

by Goose on May 2, 2007 11:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Why June the 17th?
The A's are a team that traded for a guy on the DL. I expect Snelling to either be on the DL, or suffer a niggling injury that turns him into Jason Kendall, long before then.

Don't really get it
How was Snelling ever "snowed out" with the Ms? The Ms gave him every chance and when he was healthy, had him playing in the bigs. They even kept him on the 40-man when he was clearly hurt last season.

Just because Bavasi made a dumbass trade involving Chris doesn't mean the Ms mistreated him in anyway.

by Matthew on May 3, 2007 4:33 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

They -did- send him to DC
Doesn't the Geneva convention cover that?

Trades like this...
Are why the A's are in contention every year.  I followed Snelling's trials and tribulations with the M's, along with Hargrove's inexplicable unwillingness to play him.  From the limited action he saw against the Halos, Snelling struck me as Reggie Willits with less speed but more power (<-Which if you've been watching Willits lately is a scary concept).  I couldn't believe it when he got traded to the Nats and the Mariners made Jose Guillen their starting LF.  Now he's back in the division and likely to see major playing time with an A's team with half the starting lineup on the DL and many of those out for at least a month.  It's nice that a player like Snelling will finally get the playing time he deserves, though.

That makes sense...
For some reason I thought Ibanez was still the right fielder, but Guillen's probably got a better arm.

Raul was LF last year too
His arm's actually great for a left fielder. It's a pity he moves around like he has lead boots on though.

by Graham on May 3, 2007 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, so much, then.
For Snelling's consistent playing time.  I'm not saying he won't work his way into the lineup, but it's not going to be as easy as it first appeared.

Beane's throwing spaghetti up on the wall to see what sticks.  And he's getting it at BigLots for $.25 a box, instead of buying it from the Old Spaghetti Factory's store*.

Shows you how truly thin the A's system is, though, that they just can't pull a random minor leaguer out of their system to fill those gaps...

*none of the OSF's I've been to actually have stores that sell spaghetti.

Pray for Felix. Pray for the M's!

by Goose on May 3, 2007 12:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

My league
uses OBP and SLG instead of AVE and RBI (plus the typical R/HR/SB), so Snelling would have some value as a 3rd 4th outfielder

by david h on May 3, 2007 12:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've had him all year
and the only problem was he didn't get starts.  We use OBP and TB, plus R/RBI/SB, so he's a decent player for me.

Cust is a AAAA guy with a good bat
Worst case scenario is that he takes some of those DH ABs.  Snelling will still be in the OF rotation and likely will still get some DH time anyway.

by Gomez on May 3, 2007 1:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It should be interesting
to see how Oakland works their lineup...

Milton Bradley is due of the DL on the 8th... Swisher was back in the lineup yesterday when Piazza went down.... Dan Johnson is playing pretty well at first right now...

So that means there will be an outfield rotation of Stewart, Swisher, Bradley, Buck, Snelling... with the DH spot open to any of them plus Cust

by MfaninAlaska on May 3, 2007 1:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

What it all means...
Well it's become clear to me now. This Langerhans-flipped-for-Snelling deal is an elaborate Billy Beane ploy to trade Snelling back to Seattle for King Felix.
