Nothing good has ever come from a shootout.
Gary Bettman was probably conceived during a 50man shootout on his mother.

I'd probably advise you not to confess you're a Leafs fan since the whole Lookout Landing thing is run by a Sens fan.

But yeah, it is pretty sickening to see a playoff spot decided on the final day of the season by a shootout. The purists are irate, definitely, but for those who believe the shootout is a giant gimmick, today was a sad day.

Unless you're a Leafs hater.

I don't mind shootouts

in ordinary situations. I just don't like the idea of a playoff spot being decided by them. Maybe I'm still scarred by the 98 Olympics.

I agree, the shootout has been just fine, as long as it stays in the regular season. In some leagues over in Europe, I think Russia actually, they use the shootout in the playoffs. Steve Valiquette, NYR backup goalie and all-around great guy, played there a few seasons ago and said it was the most pressure ever, as if you lost you were basically cut from the team and all the blame was on the goaltender, which is ridiculous.

Great story for the Isles to make it, but man, they are so going to get smoked in the first round by Buffalo, especially if they're all the way down to Wade Dubielewicz in net. Ouch. Rick Jeanneret may be cottonmouthed from all the goals the Sabres will score in that series.

In the West, if any team gets swept in the first round, it'll be because that team completely crapped the bed. Some are even saying all four of the West series should go six games. I could see it.
