Ha
I thought I was the only one still up.

Man... I'm gonna have to make the tough decision on whether to stay home and watch the game, or go to physics. What to do, what to do...

Bring it on
Man this six months has dragged. Have been waiting for tonight for too long, it had better not disappoint!

Will be watching up in the wee small hours - if you're heading down there, give them a yell of encouragement from me.

Gowon the M's!

MarkE's M's games:
25/4/06 - M's 0 Tigers 2
14/4/07 - M's v Rangers
17/4/07 - M's v Twins

Finally! Cmon Felix, just give me hope about this team for one series, hell one day.

Call it a feeling
I'm excited for this series. Even though I'm on the other side of the country, I can't wait to watch opening day at the Safe, just like I have tickets behind the visiting team dugout to heckle them all game.

Looking down the lineups
gives me a great deal of hope. There's not a single batter I'd want to trade for the A's equivalent. Maybe, just maybe, Id take chavez over sexson. And at least today our starter should be better.

Can't we clone Felix? what was that nutball cult that claimed to have cloned humans?

by Bearskin Rugburn on Apr 2, 2007 6:37 AM PDT reply actions

We have the best lineup in the West
Really. It's a little bizarre to think about, but it's true. When your worst hitters are Lopez, Betancourt, and Vidro, you're not doing too badly.

by Graham MacAree on Apr 2, 2007 7:12 AM PDT up reply actions

i suss you're right.
Rangers always get pegged as the offensive powerhouse in the west, but you oculd put LAA into ameriquest and have them hit like the yankees, I suppose.
Who, by the way, have the most unlikely opening day starter in the majors outside of Gil Meche. Maybe even more unlikely considering the teams.

by Bearskin Rugburn on Apr 2, 2007 7:35 AM PDT up reply actions

I'd probably take Piazza over Vidro
but thats just personal preference.  When it comes down to it, they are an ex-catcher and and ex-2B who are now DH.  Doesn't this seem wrong...

by Edgar for Pres on Apr 2, 2007 7:38 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm not talking about positions
in those terms, I would also take crosby over betancourt and yes, Piazza over Vidro. I'm talking about 1-9 in the lineup. And I would rather have Ibanez than Piazza.

by Bearskin Rugburn on Apr 2, 2007 8:18 AM PDT up reply actions

Swisher
I would take Swisher.

by Peen on Apr 2, 2007 7:49 AM PDT up reply actions

WOOHOO
Six hours until gametime!  While I have class tonight, I may even skip class if the game remains interesting and just explain everything to my instructor on Wednesday.

The bad news for this year is that, due to my night classes (which were not an issue in '05 and '06), I probably won't be available for Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs night games, until June.  I'll definitely be watching and hanging around here on the weekends, holidays and day games.  And if a professor cancels class or has an exam and lets me out early, I'll also be around.

But hell, I'm five classes from earning a Bachelor's in (something laughable) from UW, so cut me some slack.

Sadly, he seems to have aged like ten years in the last three years.  Poor guy.

by bluemax on Apr 2, 2007 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions

from what I've read
they moved him to give BJ Upton a place to play.... he did have a bad year last year battling injuries.. and didn't have a good spring, sounded alot like they didn't have much patience with him.

by MfaninAlaska on Apr 2, 2007 11:10 AM PDT up reply actions

The long short of it
He can't play defense and his offense is incredibly one dimensional (all or nothing who never walks). They felt that Upton and Wiggington were the better players at 2B and 1B and Gomes is the superior DH. He had no place to go and they wanted him to go to AAA to try to get his swing back.

Besides, he has a lame mustache.

Low curve = ball?
I'm not used to these kinder, gentler umpires.

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:03 PM PDT reply actions

It's nice to see an ump
that remembers that Sexson has Bunyan-esque proportions

Not to kill the mood...
but what the hell is a "FUNK BLAST" ?

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:04 PM PDT reply actions

Not sure
But I think it may involve the spice weasel:

by ningwers on Apr 2, 2007 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I would have assumed
a funk blast would be something stanky. But if Richie 3-run bombs = Funk Blasts I think Big Richies gonna hafta bring the funk more often. Que disco Willie!

by DCMariner on Apr 2, 2007 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions

A walk!
No sir, I don't like it. ~Mr.Horse

by Goose on Apr 2, 2007 5:05 PM PDT reply actions

A HR and a walk...
in consecutive at bats?

Who the fuck are these guys?

by Garces on Apr 2, 2007 5:06 PM PDT up reply actions

What was that thing...
That Guillen just did.
Mariner Magic http://www.marinermagic.blogspot.com/

by BaltimoreMarinersFan on Apr 2, 2007 5:05 PM PDT reply actions

Danny Haren
Imploding. I mean, he walked Jose freakin' Guillen.

by JLC on Apr 2, 2007 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

by Babar @ Lookout Landing on Apr 2, 2007 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

by BrianV on Apr 2, 2007 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

Even better
Haren tweaks his ankle.

by JLC on Apr 2, 2007 5:07 PM PDT reply actions

Ouch
I like Haren, hope he's ok.

by Graham MacAree on Apr 2, 2007 5:07 PM PDT reply actions

That would be a huge blow to Oakland
If Haren Meched up his ankle

Nice job O! Now mow em down King
And they weren't unearned, you can't assume the DP, Dave!
Go M's

by OBF on Apr 2, 2007 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

But,
There was only one out, so at least the sac fly was not unearned.

Plus gameday agrees with me.

Go M's

by OBF on Apr 2, 2007 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh nevermind
gameday changed it to 0 ER.

Hmmm... I guess they figure a sac fly doesn't work with 2 outs?

Go M's

by OBF on Apr 2, 2007 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay Felix
a 1-2-3 right here and I think it's pretty much the best possible first 6.5 innings.

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:10 PM PDT reply actions

Okay
Back to work King Felix!

Speaking of which
I'm still trying to discern which voice is Sims and which voice is Blowers.

by ThundaPC on Apr 2, 2007 5:10 PM PDT reply actions

Sims is the one who sounds interested.
Blow is the one who sounds like a generic former baseball player.

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Ahh...
I can probably tell now.

by ThundaPC on Apr 2, 2007 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Heh
"in the five seasons 2002-2006 Kendall had struck out 3 times in a game twice. The last time was in 7 at bats against the Dodgers: June 17th, 2006. The other time was April 24th, 2005, against the Angels, and the strikeouts were not consecutive."

He's K'd 3 times today.

by tkjinak on Apr 2, 2007 5:12 PM PDT reply actions

That would've been the slowest double play ever.

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions

What a perfect at bat that was.
Inside FB, inside FB, blow him away when he's looking offspeed.

by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 2, 2007 5:18 PM PDT reply actions

That was so awesome on Gameday
The signal slowed down a little and the pitch came in at slow motion with the "K" fading in.

by JLC on Apr 2, 2007 5:20 PM PDT reply actions

Incredible
This is one of the greatest pitching performances I have ever seen [admittedly I have only been watching for five years, but even so you can't do much better and more excitingly than what Felix has done so far].
