Brett Myers: Set-up Man!

What the hell are they thinking?  If they think he is such a crap starter, maybe Bavasi can work his ties with Gillick?

My fantasy team
just went from bad to worse.

by Rollo Tomasi on Apr 18, 2007 3:20 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Dude, what the hell?
The guy goes from posting back-to-back sub-4 ERA's in a launching pad of a stadium, and they want to relegate him to middle relief??!!

for once
the Mariners aren't the team making the worst decisions in baseball. Of course, Gillick is involved.

by jtopps on Apr 18, 2007 3:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

How is
Gillick involved?

He's the GM of the Phillies.

Yes he is
but he doesn't mess with the rotation.

Pretty sure he has some say in it.

I doubt it.
The manager doesn't usually ask the GM what to do, that's the bench/hitting/pitching coach's job.

So if Hargrove made Felix the closer
You don't think the front office would intercede?

Maybe if
attendance suffered enough sure, but other than that maybe not.

Do you think
Bavasi would allow Hargrove to pull Weaver out of the rotation without his approval, at least at this point in the season?

I would think that the manager and GM would discuss the situation, and come to an agreement.

But it should be the manager's call when it comes right down to it.

Bavasi doesn't count
he's an idiot and shouldn't even be a GM.

That idiot is locking up our young talent cheap
and making his successor's job that much easier. His  presence is also keeping the man that is rebuilding our farm system around.

That idiot
also signed Jeff Weaver to a 9 million dollar contract and has helped our team finish in last place and under .500 for 3 straight  years. He is an idiot.

Oh and
that idiot is promoting our prospects too fast, giving them less time to work out their flaws on weaker hitters and pitchers. Face  it, he's an idiot.

This team was destined to finish in last place
regardless of who was GM thanks to the ticking time bomb that Gillick left. Putting together the 25 man may not be Bavasi's strength but he is far from an idiot. Regardless of what KJR may say, Bavasi has had some positive impact on the franchise.

Oh and I'm sick of hearing about Weaver's contract. I rather the front office take a 9 million dollar risk that has no chance of effecting the future then have the ownership just pocket the money.

Yep. Lieber in the Rotation now.
Wow.  I think I'd much rather move Freddy to the 'pen.

So.  Bavasi needed a starter.  He traded Soriano to the wrong team to get one.  I'd take Myers in the rotation about now.

However, it's not totally non-sensical.  Myers, being a strikeout pitcher, probably makes sense in that regard in the 'pen.

Hell, I'd consider giving 'em Putz for Myers.

Iceberg, right ahead! And Felix throws a 95 MPH slider through it. It melts, and the ship is spared...

Myers has struck out 397 people in the last
2 years.

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with the Phillies?

this is a nice diversion away from the whole "Charlie Manuel challenged a reporter to a fight" story.

Phillies pitching is sucking.
Which is dumb, because most of the guys on the staff are actually usually fairly decent.  I don't really know what's going on, since I haven't been able to watch any of the games.

But let's face it, Cole Hamels RULES.  I love that guy.

But then
Hargrove will just keep marching Weaver out there every 5 games.

Let's see if we can't trade some remaining Gillick-era draft picks for him.
