What's amazing
The M's were hitting .187 as a team until yesterday.  .187

by Gomez on Apr 16, 2007 10:22 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The funny part...
The M's have played 4-5 games fewer than the rest of the division, but have just as many runs scored as Oakland and Anaheim. On a runs per game basis, Seattle is even outscoring Texas, and when you look at the relative ballparks, that's nothing to scoff at. Unfortunately, we have a couple Piniero wannabes on the back end of the rotation.

When? How many ABs?
When can we really make a good prediction on how the team is going. It is has only been a handful of games thus far. I mean, I am rooting for Johjima to have a great year, but he is on track to hit 110-120 doubles this year. I doubt that will happen. I would be happy with 70-80;)

thanks for the update!

I will be really interested to see how the team is doing after the starters have had maybe 50Abs.

Having a weekly report is cool.
But yeah it will take 25% of all games played. Should tell us if someone is having a normal or abnormal year.

Now if Joh could just spread some of that avg. around for the rest of the team.

I think we can safely assume
that Johjima won't hit .750/.800/1.083 for even on month, let alone the whole season.

Off topic
Front page article on Nytimes says the Yankees are down to Kei Igawa and Andy Pettite for regular starters. That's pretty pathetic. And funny.

But they must be desperate, throwing some AA stiff to the <del>lions</del> Cleveland Indians and bemoaning the loss of Jeff Karstens. Question is, are they desparate enough to pick up Weaver, who is available only on the condition that they get Vidro as well? And flip us absolutely anyone or anything in return? that would be sweet.

Not with an ass that big
No ship on the Harbor can contain it.  I still don't know how he made it here.

Hmmm...
Does he have to buy an extra seat on the charter flights to road games?

ESPN says
He's 193 pounds. HAHAHA Yeah right.

193 stones.

Hmmm
"Vidro bought that scale in France" could be the new "Jamie bought that radar gun in France".

JOHJIMA IS ON FIRE!
He will hit doubles off every Japanese pitcher he faces.

Shame there are only 5 or so of them in the AL...

All we need to do
is to convince Johjima that every pitcher is Japanese and convince Guillen that every pitcher is a former Angel.

he's a color commentator on NHK
and is writing some more books and stuff.

Terry Collins wanted him to be a coach for Orix this year, actually, but he was basically like "ehhh... not yet, sorry."

He was on the team broadcasting
The Felix one hitter, formerly known as the Matsuzaka Home Opener Love Fest.

ESPN actually cut to the NHK broadcast during an Ichiro at bat. I picked up a few words in there that I am guessing have no translation like curve ball and slider.

Yeah, basically.
In fall 2005 on the heels of the Johjima signing, I did a post about how pitches all have the same language on both sides of the pacific.  Anyone can tell what a "kabu" or a "suraida" is if you hear it, and you get used to phrases like "tsu-besu" for a double ("two-base"), and "foa-boru" for a walk ("four ball").  I actually have no trouble following a Japanese radio broadcast of a game at this point -- heck, I liveblogged the Japan Series with just a radio broadcast and the Yahoo Japan scoreboard -- though being fluent in baseball Japanese isn't quite the same being fluent in normal Japanese.

I dont know
if convincing Jose that all pitchers are former Angels is a good thing..

he'll just K and start shouting at them, like the other day.

It's not a matter of who wins or loses
In the end all that matters is how many Angels you shank.
