A's Loaiza Probably heading to DL

According to The Sporting News, Esteban Loazia experienced tightness in his shoulder blade a few days ago and again today, missing 2 starts. Esteban thinks he will be ok to start the season but the A's are saying otherwise. I think they would be wise to shelve him rather than pitch through the pain.

Replacement candidates? Chad Gaudin and Bill Halsey. Good news for us.

A's already getting hit hard by injury bug
they're a Rich Harden injury away from really opening the door for us.

Yes. Much like the M's
If anymore of the A's regulars go down they will be in serious trouble. A Harden or Chavez injury would probably have the same reprecussions as us losing Beltre or Hernandez. The backups just aren't going to cut it.

Yeah, a Crosby, Chavez and Harden injury
would make it a typical A's season.

Only related bad news to this is...
This means the Mariners get to face Blanton in the second game at the Safe, as he got moved up to take Loaiza's spot as the A's "#2".

And unfortunately, we had to sit through that horror show a couple times already...~

Longterm, though, it does look like this works towards the Mariners' advantage.

2007
is the year we end the Cupcakes Curse.

I dunno
I recall our first game against the A's when Loaiza went well. Then it all became a clusterfuck after that.

I also remember
Loaiza throwing 84 mph fastballs with Aaron Sele stuff in that game.

we really oughtn't gloat
considering how vulnerable the Ms are to injury. Besides, its only a minor injury. I have to admit though, the idea of Hlaasey starting any number of games is pretty funny.

Update!!!
Loazia has been placed on the 15 day DL. Also Buck is the new A's right fielder.

CRAP
I didn't remember until scouring my Fantasy team last night that Loaiza was on my squad.  I did DL him and now, my joke pick, Matt Thornton, is active.

That did allow me to pick up wombat boy Jamey Carroll, though.

I didn't realize that
Emil Brown was getting platooned and Grudz actually made it back in time for opening day.  Screw you Royals.

I was wondering
why someone was offering me an SP right before the season started.  I was thinking, "WTF I already have enough starters."  Of course, I'm not paying attention and don't notice that one of my said SPs is on the shelf.

by Gomez on Apr 2, 2007 11:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Also
Jamey Carroll got benched for Kaz Matsui.

Also, all four of my SPs (coincidentally opening day starters) got rocked.

I'm just rolling in good fantasy fortune to start the season.

Heads up.
We've got news:
A setback for Loaiza?: Esteban Loaiza, who has had recurring tightness behind his right shoulder, said he did not throw a planned bullpen session and will not make his scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. Instead, he got an MRI exam and he's returning to Oakland this morning for further tests.

It's unclear what's happening. Loaiza said the area behind his right shoulder was all right but that his right trapezius, which had bothered him earlier in the spring, was tight again.

Loaiza missed a month with tightness in his left trapezius last year and, he said, "I think this one is worse.''

As much as I hate wishing injury
Upon anyone who isn't an Angels/Yankees/Red Sox fan, this can only be good news for us.

Also from Will Carroll

"Esteban Loaiza is going to miss at least a month after an MRI found more muscle damage in his shoulder."
