Shannon Drayer's Blog

Along with some of other new Sportswriter blogs Jeff mentioned the other day, Shannon Drayer has got one as well.  There hasn't been much news yet, but I am a fan of Shannon, so...

http://www.komoradio.com/marinersradio/shannon/5971691.html

Highlights from today include: Sexson trying to swing through Rene's head, Clement may have a minor finger injury. Vidro took some balls at third, may also see some time at first, but i bet that's all for Spring Training only.

Of course, this is Hargrove.

Drayer kepts it short...
and to the essentials. She's the only only one of the 'blogs' to mention Small. It's only ST, and it's small news but Small cutting BigSexson?
Seriously, her style is cut and jab, my agenda may be set, but it isn't anyone else's... Very different from the endless knitting school so popular elswhere.
I'd love to see 'see' her get a chance to do color with Dave on radio.

Two things I found kinda funny
"showed what looked to be his left middle finger (in a friendly way) to Hargrove"

Uh huh, sure Jeff. I bet your finger was injured. Your not fooling us.

"Rene Rivera got hit on the top of the head by a Richie Sexson back swing"

Richie's obviously trying to take care of our Rivera problem.

Richie wants the catcher job.
Haha, imagine all 6'8" of Richie Sexson crouched behind the plate.
That's a right kerfuffle!

In a friendly way
a la Hanshin Tigers outfielder Tomoaki Kanemoto :)

Holy hell,
that guy looks at least 50 years old.

Must be related to Hideki Matsui
I've always thought that guy looked at least 20 years older than he is.

Nah,
Kanemoto will be 39 on April 3rd.  He's only a few months older than Shiggy and a month or two younger than Kazuhiro Sasaki.

Having played in something like 1000 consecutive games and EVERY INNING THEREOF (breaking Cal Ripken's record of 903) has probably worn him down a bit over the last few years... though he still posted a .327/.429/.615 40-HR line in his age 37 season and a .303/.393/.505 26-HR line in his age 38 season.  I think he's got a few years left in him anyway.

Still, it's just funny, can you imagine the press ever printing a picture of Cal Ripken giving someone the middle finger?

they do have a shorter season though
don't they? So playing an entire season in Japan without taking a day off is a somewhat lesser achievement than in the Majors. It also makes that age 37 season look all the more impressive.

It's not that much shorter
Like 140-146 games depending on the year.  And don't forget that they do a hell of a lot more training and other crap, including on offdays and whatnot.  I always am amazed that more players there don't just keel over and die in the summer heat towards the end of the season.  Timewise, the season goes longer, too -- from the last week of March until the middle of October.  Remember, even if there's a rainout, sometimes players will still end up working out and training and doing drills for a full day anyway...

Also, did anyone notice that JJ Putz and Kazuhiro Sasaki have the same birthday?  Obviously there's something about 2/22 that makes people good at being a Mariners closer.

I know it sucks
My birthday is tomorrow, but my best Friend's is today, my Girlfriend shares her with Ichiro and her mom has Felix's. All I get is Rondell White =(

I have a much cooler one
I share a birthday with lefty pitcher Tom Zachary.  My brother shares a birthday with lefty slugger Babe Ruth.  Tom Zachary gave up Babe Ruth's legendary 60th home run in 1927... on our dad's birthday.  All of us are left-handed.  Funky, huh?

Anyway, Feb 23 also has Bobby Bonilla and Elston Howard, you know.  :)
