Angels target Miguel Cabrera - this sucks

The Angels are showing the heaviest interest in Miguel Cabrera, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

My first reaction is the thought that comes right after the doctor says, "OK, this will just be a minute, and when I tell you to cough . .. " Please, if anyone has some voodoo spells hanging around to get this to fall through, I'd suggest you start the ceremony now.

I don't listen to anything on Fox
Unless the show starts with "Family" and/or ends in "Guy."

Or "The" and "Simpsons"
or "American" and "Dad".
I'm never blocking a fire exit.

I'm not an American Dad fan
To me, that kind of gung-ho right wing attitude is its own humor - I don't think it's that funny satirizing it.  Too played out for me.

That is a spot-on assessment
of why that show does nothing for me.

On the other hand, I will laugh at this until I die:

You misspelled "The Simpsons".
I watch the Family Guy too, but it doesn't have the rewatchability factor of The Simpsons.

by Jed MC on Nov 8, 2007 11:45 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I like Simpsons too
I disagree with your family guy statement though.

If I had included Simpsons, it would have been too long... "I don't watch anything on fox that doesn't begin and/or end with "Family" or "Guy" or "The" or "Simpsons."  See? "The" is too broad.  Would have ruined my joke.

Yes
Just because he works for Fox, Ken Rosenthal is an unreliable reporter...

Whatever.

24 is tops. As was Arrested Development
Family Guy hasn't been funny to me ever since South Park's "Cartoon Wars".

The Simpsons peaked more than a decade ago.

by Katal LM on Nov 8, 2007 12:21 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

24 has fallen apart
Seriously, last year was a trainwreck.  This year looks even worse - Tony's not dead?  He's alive?  And he's a terrorist?  Really?  And, lemme guess, there'll be a mole inside CTU, a beloved character will die (my money's on Chloe), and many, many perimeters will be set up and subsequently breached.

24 was good for one, maybe two seasons
after that, it broke my ability to suspend disbelief.

by Matthew on Nov 8, 2007 12:47 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

The first thing
that made me start to lose patience with 24 is actually very minor, but it happens at least twice a week:

"I'm twenty minutes out".

Jack Bauer could be in Long Beach, trying to get to somewhere like Burbank, and he'd still say "I'm twenty minutes out!" when it would probably take 20 mins to merge onto the freeway, much less get somewhere.

And, much like I'd never send anyone to the hospital in grey's anatomy (seriously.  They kill more people than cholesterol), I'd never entrust my security to the people at CTU.  Between the regular mole infestations and the fact that they can't set up a perimeter that would stop molasses, I can't really believe that they are capable of protecting the country from anything.

That's been going on for decades.
Magnum P-I was notorious for the whole time warp driving thing.  Chase scenes were so out of wack it was beyond comical.  It's a freaking island, there's literally one highway around it, and yet he could speed on a road with no other cars around.

Hawaii 5-0 actually made a fine attempt to be very accurate, and that was a 1970's show.  Jake and the Fatman wasn't too bad.

You probobly wont have to worry about 24 this
season

"The writers strike has struck down the Fox thriller "24."

"24" is absent from the network's revised, strike-affected schedule
for midseason. In its announcement, Fox explained the "Day 7" season
for the series would be indefinitely postponed to ensure an
uninterrupted run.

Like most series written by members of the Writers Guild of America,
"24" is falling prey to a shortfall of scripts. But the heavily
sequential, real-time "24" is dependent on a full-season run of 24
episodes."

Last season was awful
but I'm stoked that Tony isn't dead.* His return is cheesy, but he was the best character in the early seasons.

* At least, I will be until Jack inevitably kills him.

by Katal LM on Nov 8, 2007 3:09 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He was a great character
but the 24 writers are reeeeeally dredging the plot barrel to come up with his return as a terrorist.  What's next, another cougar in the woods?

I also doubt it
Tim Kring did an interview with EW where he apologized to fans that the 2nd season has sucked so far, and outlined some of the lessons they've learned in the process. One was that they completely botched most of the new characters. There's hope, though:
"Kring says a few newbies won't make it beyond this second volume, which wraps Dec. 3"

Even more than the brother and sister, I hope they get rid of Claire's boyfriend. That kid annoys the hell out of me.

Claire's boyfriend and the male Wonder Twin
Those are my picks to bite the dust by the end of this volume.

by Katal LM on Nov 10, 2007 12:49 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I have to go with President Palmer
And of course Jack, but Tony was top 3 for sure. I haven't had time to go back through my Season 5 DVD and analyze his "death" scene to see if this may have been pre-planned or is straight out the monkey's ass, but it's on my list. Besides, it's not like I'll have anything to watch this spring now.

Personally I think Tony as the bad guy is exactly the spark this show needs to rebound - when he and Jack squared off in Season 3, their "chemistry" as good guy/bad guy was fantastic. Season 5 was the best because Gregory Itzin played such a fantastic villain, and a major detractor from Season 6 was the merry go round of uninspired big bad bossies... If they're looking for new life, giving Jack someone to go after with the fury he had for Nina Myers is exactly what they need. Oh, and more Elisha Cuthbert.

We want the funk! Give up the funk!

Just remember that it was
Ken Rosenthal reporting and everyone with a brain would try to get in on Cabrera.  It's like "team X" is interested in Johan Santana.  I used to like him until the became the useless sideline reporter for FOX.  Can't they just hire some hot chick with cleavage for that job?

It might suck for 08
but I'd LOVE see the angels gut their farm system.

by chrisisasavage on Nov 8, 2007 11:55 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

But it's not like Cabrera is some veteran
He basically IS a farm system in himself. And the guys they would give up (Morales, Wood, who would they give up?)

I don't know about his contract right now, but I'd imagine if they got him he'd be in the west for a while, which is a really scary proposition.

Ehh
He'd cost their farm a shitload - this is the marlins we're talking about remember? And he's an FA in two years. Its not like we're going to be better than the angels after this winter anyway. Take last year's Ms, improve a lot, and you still have last years M's (88-74). Take last years Angels, change nothing, subtract some injuries, take the crank away from willits and chone, and they still comfortably win the division.

Whatever

It really wouldn't be a TON.
Arod's going to get at least 30 mil.  35 was just Boras talking Arod up, but 30 I could see happening.  Bonds shouldn't get more than 15, but teams do overpay.  Vlads already under contract, and Miggy is making 7.4.

I know it will never happen, but if the pieces fell right and the Angels were willing to throw down a lot of talent an about 55 mil per year more... ya it won't happen.  But still, fun/scary to think about.

Angels Farm System
really isn't better then ours. Brandon Wood is a fine prospect but that 2005 Rancho Cucamonga tour really overrated him to start with and he has fell back to earth the past two season not to mention that Arkansas and Salt Lake are both hitter's parks as well, he is probably right on track with Jones as far as prospect value goes. Adenhart's value is starting to stagnate, although Angel's pitchers tend to be underrated while there hitters tend to be overrated (park factors) Hank Conger, Sean Rodriguez are also nice even if Rodriguez took a step back this year. Unless they intend on giving up Kendrick who is really the talent it would take to get Cabrera, I don't see this happening
