Sexson, and trying to move him?
What exactly is the method to rid ourselves of Richie Sexson?
a. An equal $$ return in bad 1 year contracts that add up to his?
b. An equal $$ return in a contract that is stretched out in more years (like a Dave Roberts from SF)?
c. A trade where we pay off most of the contract for a Jesse Foppert lottery ticket?
d. Just dump his entire contract?
The historical reference for moving such contracts are not all that great (Jason Kendall being the most recent, Cirillo for Jarvis, etc.). I'm curious as to your ideal plan.

I'd say you just go down that list
C
A
D
B
D and B being possibly interchangeable depending on the player

Except Richie's injury wasn't phantom

Tendonitis
But I'll add that getting rid of him will take about as much work as it will take to get Santana, and while I wouldn't be SHOCKED if the FO ate his contract, I would still be surprised.

I heard the rumor of the career ending injury
However, I do agree there has been little discussion through the media about Sexson's rehab.

If it came down to any of those 4
A. This eats up valuable roster space with more veterans that will just tempt Mac to play. At least Sexson has been benched previously so there's precedent and he only takes up one spot on the active roster.
B. While this does actually reduce the financial burden a bit (inflation and all), it's better to get the financial consequences over and done with so that the (hopefully) new GM has less baggage in '09.
C. Best of the 4, but in this case you're paying the money either way so what's more likely to net you something productive; a Jesse Foppert or Richie Sexson perhaps motivated by a year of failure and impending free agency?
D. WTF the point? Just to get him off the roster? Sure if we had a Ryan Howard being blocked in Tacoma or something, but we don't.

So
by eknpdx on Oct 25, 2007 11:07 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Richie Sexson
The only reason I see to move him is if you get significant salary relief. Otherwise, what's the point?
by Matthew on Oct 25, 2007 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Definition of significant?
In a vacuum, eating most of Sexson's contract becomes meaningless. I think Hickey from the P-I speculated that $15m is available if Guillen leaves. But say we can add $4m-$5m more to that just by eating a big chunk of Sexson's contract?
Does that become significant, therefor making it worthwhile?(Not considering if there's a player or combo of players worth spending $20m-ish on)

Solution:
- invent a time machine.
- go back to when we placed Richie on waivers late summer.
- this time, let the other team take Richie and his contract.
- smile with grim satisfaction at having totally screwed another contender, freed up $14 million in salary, created a position void that allows Raul to slip in at 1st and AJ to slip in to LF.

Since I will never be rich
Timeline of a gold digger:
Is hot.
Gets fucked by everybody cause she's hot.
Gets STD and is getting old.
Knows she is absolutely useless to society.
Starts boning a rich dude so he pays the bills.
Now maybe stupid hot bitches are smarter than I think and realize they can skip getting herpes and just start screwing a rich dude but I'm bitter and hope all these spoiled rich guys get what they deserve.

You're describing one of my best friend's mom.
-Is hot
-Got pregnant at 19
-Mooched off of old guy with money to pay the bills
-Divorces old guy and takes half his stuff, finds new old guy to pay bills
-Has 4 more kids, divorces new old guy
-Finds new, new really old guy who won't marry her because he's freakin' rich but will still pay her bills, buy her a $40k Lexus SUV, buy her a new house.
Her new boyfriend is older than her mother's boyfriend for crissakes. And was rich enough to buy my friend his first car, which cost 7 grand.
