What movie is that from?
This is going to bother me until I figure out where I've seen that before.

but I couldn't remember the name of the movie.

BTW- You able to get behind the Rockies yet?

On the brightside
That comeback in 2001
Omar and the earring
Paul Byrd and his "perfect game"
The fact that their city's weather effed up our schedule, preventing the Mariners from taking needed off days late in the season
The 1995 ALCS
A bunch of movies about their team starring Charlie Sheen and President Palmer

I hate Boston as much as anyone, and I know that they have a model organization, but I can still feel at least a little bit glad that Cleveland lost.

I've been hating them all year
I'm not exaggerating when I say the AL playoffs featured my four most loathed AL teams.

My entire sports life...
...I go without a World Series.  I've been here 4 years now and 2 World Series for the Sox.  This is in addition to a Seahawks Super Bowl loss and Patriots Super Bowl win.

Life isn't fair.

by Colby In Boston on Oct 21, 2007 9:16 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Honestly...
Of the 3 final teams, Boston was my "favorite." Can't help it, I discovered baseball in the fall of '86, so the Sox and Mets have always had an irrational reservation in my heart.

That said, go Rockies. There's something very appealing about having 8 different winners in 8 years from 2000 to 2007. If basically 1/4 of the teams in baseball can win a championship since the last time the NYY won, it makes the Mariners' chances seem better than ever.

Um
So I saw the clip but it was at a restaurant and being out of the loop, I missed the context.  Why the hell was Papelbon doing a riverdance before Game 5?

I dunno.
I think Fox was playing the clip from after Boston clinched the division.

He was probably very drunk.  I hope.

Two items:
  1. That 30 Days of Night movie reminds me of The Thing. If it turns out to be even a quarter as good, I will be a happy boy.
  2. Just noticed Jeff switched the site's logo to the one from SBN's Rockies blog. Is this the first non-M's logo switch? Either way, I love it.

by Slozbury Stouvre on Oct 21, 2007 11:09 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

30 Days of Night
was okay. The idea was fantastic, the execution was merely 'meh'. And don't even get me started on the ending. It completely ruined the movie for me. Up until the end I was into it, but it went from being pretty good, to just okay.

You wouldn't believe the Matsuzakamania here
This morning all of the papers had huge headlines of "VICTORY DEPENDS ON MATSUZAKA!!!!!" and then later all of the news stands had signs up saying "MATSUZAKA WON THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!" and such.

Of course, I didn't get up early enough to bother with the MLB game today.  I think it was already over by the time I got to Jingu to take in some Tokyo Big Six college baseball games, where I saw some of the smartest and suckiest baseball players I've ever seen in my entire life.  Woohoo Todai.

I found some sports bars today too, but none of them are open early enough to watch MLB games.  Funny how that works.

Is it wrong...
... to now hate the BoSox as much as I hate the Yankees? Because I don't think I can help it anymore. Their fanbase and the way the national media covers them is at least as annoying, if not moreso.

by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Oct 23, 2007 12:43 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think I hate the media coverage
more than I hate the Bosox or Yankees.  They can't really help being stuck in the media's sensationalist crosshairs again and again.  What can they do, suck? (Sucking didn't even help the Yankees get out of the spotlight)

by Gomez on Oct 23, 2007 12:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hate the Red Sox way more than the Yanks
The Yanks I'm just jealous of. They're the exact same teams (basically), but Boston fans are 10x worse than NYY fans from my experience.

by Matthew on Oct 23, 2007 12:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

At least the Sox players...
...seem to remember that they're supposed to be having fun - Papelbon may have looked like a dumbass out there dancing, but can you imagine Jeter or A-Rod doing something like that?

hate the media, hate the fans, sure - but Boston's got a good team that's pretty fun to watch.

I can't find myself hating the Red Sox.  It's easy to hate the media and the dumb-ass fans.  But I've liked the Red Sox for quite awhile.  They're a well-run organization that has a lot of money (and is mostly good at spending it).

I agree. The Yankees are worse, because
they have no personality. No facial hair, no long hair, no emotions.

You'd never see a Yankee doing something like that. What was the last crazy/funny thing a Yankee did, ride a horse around the warning track? Woop-dee-freakin'-doo...

by Thingray on Oct 23, 2007 1:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

there's not really any team that I hate
there's players I hate for how they destroy us (Metcalf, Granderson, etc) but 90% of my hate comes in the form of hating fanbases/cities, the other 10% from MSM over-coverage.

I want fans of Boston to suffer; I'm ambivalent to the actual Red Sox players.

by Matthew on Oct 23, 2007 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't hate the Red Sox at all
I certainly like them more than the Yankees.  But I still would rather see Colorado win, if for no other reason that I don't care who wins so I support the underdog.

Plus, I can't fathom Boston losing, so I wouldn't mind being surprised.

By the way...
Bring the hate. It's funny.
What's just as funny is how all we keep hearing from the rest of the country is "ohh, what a bunch of arrogant annoying bandwagoners the Sox fans are"... when of COURSE there are a bunch of arrogant annoying bandwagoners; it's a winning team. It's what happens.
What people fail to realize is how bad the bandwagoning and arrogance was getting in Cleveland by the time Game 5 rolled around. I'm not making it up; anyone in the greater Ohio region will agree with me, I'm sure.

by brick Royl on Oct 23, 2007 3:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
But it's a choice between what we expect and what we like to see.  The last several years I was cheering on Boston because I liked them more than the Yankees.  Now, since I expect Boston to win, I'd like to see a well run team like Cleveland win...

Boston fans are insane, though. Ohio sports fans are just overly passionate.

Count me in on hating the media coverage
"It's Josh Beckett's ex-girlfriend singing the National Anthem...OH NOEZ!!!!!"

And annoying Sox fans/bandwagon fans (and some annoying players even) aside it's a seriously well built team.  One of the best teams if not the best team in baseball made it to the World Series.

I have mixed feelings overall.  I want the Rockies to beat the Red Sox, but the Red Sox were the team to beat since Game 1 of the regular season.
